We'll call it a tie.

superpeer 02-21-2005 05:36 PM
Hey Superpeer what's the definition of a pure synonym?
Eh, two words that have the exact same denotation and the exact same connotation, id est, they mean exactly the same and can be used in the same situations.

They're very rare though. What common folk call 'synonym' isn't actually a genuine synonym, but the term can be handy to use sometimes, but strictly speaking it isn't 100% correct.

There's a difference?

thickasabrick 02-21-2005 05:43 PM

For me, every time I hear Eminems newest single, and I automatically think it sucks. But if I wait a few years and hear it again, I find it quite entertaining. I'm not sure why, I'm just like that with a lot of newer music, it takes a long time to grow on me.

edit- If you wanna hear real rap, listen to Bob Dylan, sometime's his songs get to the point where he's trying to sing so fast he just starts talking. Subterranean Homesick Blues or Leopard-skin Pillbox Hat are rap at it's finest. ;) Those are some dope rhymes.

Arucard 02-21-2005 05:43 PM

Yah, maybe i do know slightly more than you.

Arucard 02-21-2005 05:47 PM

Lol, how much older than her are you?

superpeer 02-21-2005 05:48 PM
As far as I can tell, there is no difference.
I always thought that Rap was the style of vocals and Hip Hop was the music.

thickasabrick 02-21-2005 05:48 PM

I think hip hop is just has more of a pop influence. It's easier to dance to than rap. It focuses a lot more on the the beat of the music, than just the really fast rhymes that you find in rap music.

I'm not very educated in these areas though, that's just me guessing.

superpeer 02-21-2005 05:48 PM

A couple of years, she's still in high school. :naughty:

That's what I've heard too, but honestly, I don't think there is a difference. I've seen artists labelled rap who have also been labelled hip-hop, which leads me to believe that "rap" and "hip-hop" are the same thing.

superpeer 02-21-2005 05:58 PM

Indeed.

Well, 'night, guys.
