New Riders of the Purple Sage > American Beauty (IMO)

Everyone needs this album! If your a fan of the 2 Country Rock albums the Dead made then I strongly suggest you get this. If you haven't already cheak out Badmoon's reveiw on it.

pigonthewing82 04-07-2005 01:04 PM

Has anybody heard the Jimi Hendrix box set Astro Man? Its really good it has three live shows that are just great.

Woodstock 04-07-2005 01:14 PM

Some of you may know this, but I just found it out.

The Velvet Underground's s/t has a banana on the cover because at the time, the rumor was that smoking a banana peel would produce a high.

Anyways, how do you guys think Raw Power compares to Kick Out The Jams? I've only heard Raw Power, and it seems like a tough album to rival.

kick out the jams is a very strong album. very intense all the way through. for me, raw power has some "eh" tracks that just dont do it for me. mc5 is pure energy. its a **** tough call though.

Raw Power isn't pure energy? I love every song. There are some awesome riffs, and I love Iggy's style.

no its energetic but have you heard kick out the jams? do so immediately if you have not. pure energy is a bit too weak to describe the feel of the album.

Definitely not. I can only point out two songs on S/T that are strait up classics. Everything else on the album is mostly very good, but gets old after a while. IMO
They only made 2 country rock albums?
Everyone of their albums has huge Country influence, but the influence is most profound in American Beauty, Workingman's Dead, From the Mars Hotel, and Wake of the Flood.

I did not know that.

Sup everyone. I just got back from Spain. Mark Knopfler and Gov't Mule are very popular there apparently. The radio would always play spanish songs, then stick in a couple Knopler or Mule songs, and there were posters about them everywhere on the streets.

La Revolucion 04-07-2005 03:38 PM

Mark Knopfler is extremely popular in Europe and the surrounding area. If you go on his website and view tour dates, not a one of them is in America.

Cool, glad to have to back.

I'm going to Lollapalooza.

SteveWheeler 04-07-2005 04:14 PM

I love classic rock and would like nothing more than for it to come back in a way. Songs that arnt "just" bashing out power chords ye know? Jimi Hendrix is my hero in a way. I don't like the idea of idolising people and many say he is overrated but neh, I couldn't care less.

ATM 04-07-2005 04:44 PM

Who's playing at Lollapalooza? Maybe I'll go.

MalcolmYoungRock 04-07-2005 04:51 PM

Where is Lollapalooza?

Wait... didn't they make a Simpsons episode about that?

And yea, who's playing, if they come to California.

That's interesting, I knew Mule was doing a European Tour, but I had no idea that they were really big over there.

I got The Byrds-Fifth Dimension and Blues Traveler-Travelers and Thieves today.
Who's playing at Lollapalooza? Maybe I'll go.
I think it's only in Chicago, though I may be mistaking.

Good ol' Simpsons classic rock jokes.

The Allman Brothers reference when they're in Africa is one of my favorties.

They're dancing in the tribal frenzy and Marge Says:
"God, this song has been going on for hours."
And Homer goes, "Yea I know, it's like the Allman Brothers."
