You can but I hear irritating artifacts in the sound 70% of the time and sharper frequencies seem "damp" around the edges at 128 kbps. This stops being a big issue around 192 kbps I find, to a very small one. The production of the song and the quality of the equipment it is being listened through is really the determining factor of whether it will bother people though. |
yeah i have a FoT rip thats 128 and it sounds like ***
|
The point I'm trying to make is if he needs to put his song at 128kbps just to get it on soundclick, it isn't the end of the world.
|
I spose so
this is cool - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tupper's_self-referential_formula also, spectrograms that appear in music pendulum - grinder http://stevenance.com/stuff/specto.jpg some venetian snares track - http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/9310/venetiansnareslookcl5.png supposedly results in some odd static in the track, so cool |
I've always figured you make those by starting with the picture and coding it backwards, pretty cool trick.
That's hell clever that formula trick. Chu would love it. |
Any of you cats follow the Guinness Premiership?

lo-fi is great and all but why destroy the source even further with shitty bitrate |
I don't think there's really much point to having lo-fi recordings saved at a high bitrate. There simply isn't enough audio information in them to take advantage of the higher bitrate as opposed to a lower one.
|
artifacts appearing is a bother though
|
I've never had a problem with any myself. The only problems with audio I have tend to be if someone ripped a faulty CD or whatever.
Man, I bought a Kyuss CD, doesn't even play. Gott dang weed lovers. |

Anyone want a Tiger Panic poster in the near future? |

Awesome. They'll be pretty cheap and ship for free in Australia.
It won't be some dodgy artwork of mine either, I'm getting an awesome artist friend of mine to do some stuff. |

You'd be surprised. I don't want to go into long, boring details, but if an encoder supporting VBR (such as Lame, the best one out there) allocates a higher bitrate to an audio sample, it did so because it was the most efficient size/quality available for that particular sample. |
I was joshing about the 96k encoding before. I'd never destroy my music like that; I do such layered stuff that you'd loose half my work. Saying that, I think most people probably don't notice artifacts unless they know what they are. You've got to have a musician's ear, or an engineer's ear, to hear it I think.
