Which is too bad. Lindsey Lohan sells millions of albums, while an amazing band would be stuck touring in a van for 5 years before disappearing into normal careers.
|
But that's the way it is, and if it wasn't for Lindsay fans, who would we feel superior too?
|
Rolling Stones fans? Just throwing it out there.
Actually, I'm listening to the Stones right now. |
First post! I'm on the biggest WYWH fix. I love that album so much. Has anyone seen David Gilmour in Concert?
NP: SOYCD - Pink Floyd
has anyone seen this recently? I am SO friggin' awesome. PS- My girlfriend and I were doing yoga to SOYCD a few days ago. It was quite a trip. |
You were doing yoga? You hippie :)
I've seen David Gilmour on Pulse, but that's cheating. I hope he comes out with another solo album so I get another chance to see him. He was in Seattle last summer, but I wasn't really a big enough fan yet at that point. |
I've got the David Gilmour Live DVD (well, my dad does ), and it's really great. He plays SOYCD acoustic with just an effects pedal unit. It's really great.
Never seen him live though :( |
SOYCD would be pretty incredible on the acoustic.
|
It's really simplistic, but it's quite charming. He changes the melody a little and it's quite strange at first, but it's beautiful after a few listens. I find myself singing that version at work sometimes :smoke:
What's great though, is when the audience finally realise what song he's playing halfway through the opening solo. It's just that one dramatic chord change that makes everyone instantly know it's Shine On. Priceless. |
I was messing around with synths at guitat center the other day, and I found an effect that sounded exactly like the one Rick used on SOYCD. So, of course, I made a poor attempt at re-creating the song. It was much fun.
|
Would've been awesome
The synth in the intro is a winner. And unique too. A lot of Floyd songs start with a synth fading up, but you can always seem to pick Shine. |
I am a huge Pink Floyd and David Gilmore fan. I covered Breath/Speak to me for my Pink Floyd Cover Project.
I am doing all guitars and vocals, but the screams came from my D&T singer You can listen to it here http://www.myspace.com/michaelcuttingmusic |
Nothing beats the keyboard in Any Colour You Like though.
I've been thinking about learning the keyboard/synth and playing that in a band, instead of bass. I think that would be pretty neat.
I am a huge Pink Floyd and David Gilmore fan. And that laugh is incredible. The song itself isn't too bad though. Did you just play guitar over the track itself, or did other people play bass and drums? |

Bass & Guitars were done pretty much the same time, but the drums were done last sending files over the internet. |
I've gotta start listening to music with my headphones on more often. Apparently I'm missing out on a lot of extra stuff because I just listen through the stereo.
|
^^It's staggering what you'll pick up, especially on DSOTM. It may be subtle, but the subtlety's make the music for Floyd. :)
|
Stereo trickery is more noticeable too. That wierd bit in Whole Lotta Love (yer not Pink Floyd I reliase this) on a stereo is a bit crap but through headphones sounds very good.
|
What's dodgy is the wierd attempt at stereo trickery at the end of Interstellar Overdrive. You don't notice when listening normally, but trust me - with headphones it's really annoying
I guess they just didn't quite have the technology (or studio money) to do it quite well yet :p |
Havnt got PATGOD *runs like hell*. Oh and whats staggering?
|
About DSOTM or Interstellar Overdrive?
Well, I'll say that they try to alternate the sound in IO from speaker to speaker, but instead of being a fluid transition, the sound changes with a series of "clicks". I'm sorry but it's hard to explain :/
*runs like hell*
 I got it. |
I really should get it sometime. I never see it around though.
|
Download it!
I could send it, what's your e-mail? |
I really should get it sometime. I never see it around though.
It's pretty rare/expensive on vinyl, assuming that's what you're looking for. I've come across it twice, cheapest was 25 euros. I did hesitate a moment, but went for two Mahavishnu Orchestra albums that were only 10 euros together instead. Unless you don't have problems with bootlegs, then you might find something cheap, though I haven't come across a PATGOD-bootleg yet. |
I shall have to disagree. Bike is really just a pop song, which I don't think should be taken very seriously. However, it's probably my least favorite song on Piper.
Interstellar Overdrive, on the other hand, rocks.
I said Bike because I think it's a funny song. I agree though, it's not that great. |
Well Id get it on CD if I could also find that. And Danger Bird I won't download albums from bands I really like.
|

you should buy from itunes if you can't find it in stores and don't want to download it (which i think it's good you don't) |
Don't have an Ipod. And besides I like to have a physical CD case and booklet or whatever. It just feels right.
|
I have the mono edition on vinyl, it ran me up around 30 bucks I think. That's with shipping from Internet Land though.
|
I've only found PATGOD once on vinyl, and it was 30 bucks. That was at the spendy record shop though. If I could just find it at the place I shop at, it would probably be 15 at the most, more likely 10.
The Best Buy near my house has tons of copies of the CD, that's strange that you can't find it on CD. Have you tried Best Buy? Do they have those in Australia? |
try http://www.gemm.com
|
The equivalent of Best Buy in Australia (or Melbourne atleast) would be JB Hi-Fi and I got my PATGOD in the bargain bin there for AUS $9.99. It's pretty common where I go.
:thumb: |
Mmm yer JB Hi-Fi might be the way to go but my closest one isnt all that close so I dont go there often.
|
I'm pretty sure I got PATGOD for my birthday. Pretty much all my other Floyd albums I bought in 2-for-whatever deals.
|
I just went to see Roger last night in Sydney, holy crap it was awesome.
His voice was so much better than i thought it would be, and i couldn't have been much happier with the setlist. The lights and effects were awesome, they had his pig as usual, a big astronaut floating around the arena, and many explosions <_< Who else went? |
Im going to the Brisbane one, now im really excited.
|

:thumb:
I got my PATGOD off of Amazon. (US) $10 is a pretty good deal ordered new. |
And ya, if a band like Pink Floyd came out tomorrow, you probably wouldn't hear them on the radio or MTV very much.
if pink floyd came out tomorrow then chances are that the tiny world of western rock music would be too different to even warrant a superficial comparison |
Exactly. If the exact same band released the exact same albums, a vast majority of people would just say "huh?"
|
so is that a criticism of pink floyd or what :-\
|
Yeah, I agree with this. It's kind of like what my dad says, that if Jesus walked onto a plain today, people would think he was a terrorist.
