Go for it, it's not a bad idea, it has a lot of potential. And just because it's a sad concept album doesn't mean that it's an Opeth rip off. You have your own style, and it's not going to sound like Opeth unless you deliberately make it that way.

Jude 08-09-2005 01:53 PM

I love Ghost Reveries. There isn't excessive death metal vocals, and those always grate on my nerves. I don't like the clean guitar parts as much as the acoustic ones they usually do, but they're still great. Aside from a few iffy riffs the album is totally solid. The Grand Conjuration is awesome, I can't describe how much arse that track kicks. Especially the main riff...they could just play that riff for 10 minutes and I'd be happy.

Thanks for the advice man. Yeah, ill try to not make it sound too much like Opeth, although they somehow seem to have a big inflence on everything i ever write :p

Deth 08-09-2005 07:23 PM

I don't know whether there is much substance to be had in that story to be honest. It should be larger scale I think, and maybe the family could get killed by a stray bomb or something. You're the judge though.

... OPETH HAS TO BE THE BEST XTREME METAL BAND EVER ...

Mike akerfeldt has the best Death voice ... ever ...
I've all albums by opeth ... gonna get the dvd soon... Ya its true... Their genre is opeth ... Love the new album ...Ghost reveriest... especially Antonment and the baying of the hounds
All summer I've had the Moor stuck in my head... all the different verses just get jammed into my brain... I love that song so much...
The Moor is maybe my favorite song in general. I'm not sure though because it's too hard to tell. I love every Opeth song.

That usually happens when you listen to something constantly :p Try listening to a lot of different kinds of music, it worked for me when I realized that everything I was writing sounded like Chopin.

Shadows 08-09-2005 10:02 PM

I thought maybe the people here could give some advice to an aspiring Opeth fan...

I'm looking to get into more Opeth. I love the new Ghost Reveries and I love their debut, Orchid. I have no problem with any brutal stuff like Deliverence or the softer stuff like Damnation. Excluding Blackwater Park, which album do you guys think I should check out?

I appreciate any help. This is a band I would definitely like to know more about.

relliK 08-09-2005 10:06 PM

Any other album that you havent heard yet.All their albums are top notch.

Still Life would be my suggestion.

Hells Bells 08-09-2005 10:07 PM

If you don't mind either, then get something that's a mix of both, maybe Morningrise?

Shadows 08-09-2005 10:12 PM

Thanks guys. If Morningrise is a mix of both sides, I'll definitely look into that. But I'll take a look at Still Life too since I'm open to any/all suggestions. Those two were actually the two I was leaning towards.

What do you guys think of My Arms, Your Hearse?

GOT the GUDS 112 08-09-2005 10:32 PM
If you only need someone to record the vocals, I could help. I'd like to do it myself, but if it's not good enough I'll just ask my brother, who's my Opeth cover band's singer. I don't use AIM though, I'll just email you.
Is this offer still good? I'm in the middle of recording 'A Fair Judgement' and am also interested in enlisting some help on the vocals. It shouldn't be tooo tough for a real vocalist, seeing as it's only clean vocals and they're sparsely placed in the song. If you can help me out, get back to me through my soundclick or this thread

MAYH one of the most original, well thought out concept albums I've seen IMO. It's heavier than their other albums, although there's still stuff like Credence and Opeth's characteristic contrasting heavy parts with softer ones. I think it's interesting how the songs tie together, not only through the storyline, but the last few words of each song are the title of the next one.

Shadows 08-09-2005 11:48 PM

I'm trying to get that right now. :) I haven't really heard Morningrise yet, but I'm really loving Still Life.

I hope I have a paycheck coming because it looks like I need to do some music shopping.

lost_profits 08-10-2005 12:08 AM

To be honest I don't dig Ghost Of Perdition. Whats up with the generic intro? It has moments that remind me of BWP era Opeth (which is a good thing) The acoustic section is very well done. The Grand Conjuration seems to be growing on me with every listen
Arghh...There's a link to a live Opeth streaming video that's been thrown around in here a couple of times. After half an hour of searching, I can't find it. Anyone know what it is?
Guys I need some help with the last lyrics to By The Pain I See In Others... I know they've been posted before but I can't find them... and me and my friend are trying to figure out the concept for Deliverance and ****ation... any help would be nice.

the last part are not new lyrics, it's just a certain passage of lyrics sung backwards, I can't remember which passage though..

I would be interested in hearing your concept idea behind it

Do you know if there is any way to save that video to your hard drive?

For your next album Shadows Fallen, I would go Still Life or Morningrise.

Try right clicking that and saving onto your comp. I'm not too sure that would work but it is worth the try, right?

EDIT: Nevermind, that doesn't work.

:( What? You have a bad computer too? The video will play good for about 20 seconds and then it keeps the music coming but changes the video once every ten seconds...

I want to SEE it!

I'm assuming that having it loaded would fix the problem.

So help a bro bro out someone.

I'm pretty sure their different lyrics, they've been posted in this thread before but I don't want to waste all day browsing for them.. and the search function isn't helping. And I'd be happy to post the story once were done figureing it out.

Harlequin forest(song 5) is my favourite song on the album. Not that the whole cd doesn't rock, just that harlequin forest is probably the best.

I agree with you totally i absolutely love does two songs, another one i really like is ghost of perdition.

I think Ghost Reveries has officially become my favorite Opeth album.I wasnt sure it was up until now.I'm sure it will be between GR, SL, and Morningrise from now on.

Listen to them a bit more. At first I didn't really like them, and I had a few MP3s just stored on my hard drive for a few months. I trie dthem again one day, when I was trying decide what to delete and what to keep, and they blew me away. The more I listen now, the more I love them.

That's a shame. Have you heard any of their softer songs?

A_Perfect_Tool 08-10-2005 09:14 PM

Just that at the moment, i will try their other songs. I dont like the guys voice when it becomes that hoarse style, its a shame cause he is a very talented singer, but im sure they will grow on me considering so many people like them. I will certainly listen to them more.

Killtacular 08-10-2005 09:16 PM

Try Harvest, Benighted, or Face of Melinda. They are all just clean vocals. Great songs, too. And that heavy metal riff at the end of FoM is killer.

Just listen to " To Bid Your Farewell" and you will get in love with the band. :thumb:

I've been rapidly getting into more and more Opeth. I'm really starting to love this band.

I think I may start to frequent this tread more often. :)

Not arguing with you (imm actually glad to get some advice, not many other people seem to wanna give it out), but why do you think there isnt alot of substance to be had with the story?

Also, i just finished the lyrics for the first song if your interested in looking.

Nice choice. That song is so deep and well thought out, so much power and transition...I definately want it played at my funeral.
