I just bought "a series of sneaks" by Spoon... and i'm just listening to it over and over and over and... great cd. Check their website out to listen to songs, especially "jonathan fisk". addictive

Little Man being Erased 03-09-2005 12:10 AM

Jonathon Fisk is a bloody brilliant song.

br3ad_man 03-09-2005 03:17 AM

I've been lsitening to David Bowie a lot

talk show host 03-09-2005 08:40 AM

I've been listening to Puggy a lot recently. They played at our university the other day and they were the best act i've seen play there. Live they sounded like a mellow Mr. Bungle with Jeff Buckley-esque vocals.

I'm listening to the studio versions now and they don't sound like that. It's still really good stuff though. www.puggyband.com

pixiesfanyo 03-09-2005 08:47 AM

The Decemberists - Her Majesty

Robert Crumb 03-09-2005 02:21 PM

The Minders and Charles Mingus. And a dose of Doom. MF Doom.

Anyway, lately I've been listening to Jonathan Fire*Eater and Quasi.

Iai 03-09-2005 03:01 PM

Joy Division
Kraftwerk
Manic Street Preachers
Explosions In The Sky
Television
Talking Heads

....all of whom I'm going to rip off for my Music Tech coursework, so I figured I'd listen to them for ideas.

sweboy 03-09-2005 04:01 PM

I've been totally down with Bomb The Music Industry! lately. They are insane.

Zappa 03-09-2005 04:06 PM
The Minders and Charles Mingus. And a dose of Doom. MF Doom.
What Mingus?

Robert Crumb 03-09-2005 04:15 PM
What Mingus?
Mingus Ah Um. Absolutely enthralled by it. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Zappa 03-09-2005 04:17 PM

The Black Saint And the Sinner Lady is my favorite of his.

Bartender 03-09-2005 04:19 PM

Picked up Faith No More's Album of the Year today, amongst others. So far that's all I've had time to really listen to today :-/

Yeah, I went back to that HMV sale :(

YDload 03-09-2005 04:30 PM

The answer was "The Naked Gun," by the way. That's where the song "I'm Into Something Good" by Herman's Hermits came from (or where I heard it anyway).

asymm 03-10-2005 12:07 AM

recently... Prosaics - "Aghast Agape EP". It's pretty decent stuff. Definitely influenced by Joy Division's famous production but with a slicker sheen and the music follows accordingly with the angular/post-punk vibe.

br3ad_man 03-10-2005 12:56 AM

Bloc Party is what I've been listening to today. I'm inconvenienced to no end by the fact that my v-amp has died.

Smackers 03-10-2005 05:37 AM

I've gotten back into my Mogwai phase again. But I've also begun to listen to Sunn O))).

Iai 03-10-2005 06:15 AM
Yeah, I went back to that HMV sale :(
I'm going back this Friday. It's conveniently on the way to the NHS walk-in clinic.

I listened to Mogwai for hours yesterday. Not bad.

The only thing i've listened to today so far is part of Damien Rice - O

Jallaman 03-10-2005 08:28 AM

Conor Oberst (most bright eyes and desaparecidos)
Elliott Smith
Bloc Party

asymm 03-10-2005 12:04 PM

today has been:

The Cure Pornography
and
Mission of Burma - Vs.

Bukowski 03-10-2005 01:06 PM

It's been a Pink Floyd day for me.
I'm going back this Friday. It's conveniently on the way to the NHS walk-in clinic.
I think I'm going back later on, as a kind of excuse to meet up with a friend back in Newcastle. Also, why are you going to the walk-in clinic?

On topic, I haven't really listened to much music today. My mp3 player was out of batteries, and I've been playing on my newly fixed PS2 otherwise.

Iai 03-10-2005 03:40 PM
Also, why are you going to the walk-in clinic?
A couple of friends are pressuring me to, because of a big burn wound I've got on my hand. (I spilt coffee over myself last Thursday.) Just making sure it's not infected, or whatever.

I figure I've got more chance of catching a disease if I go.

blueone 03-10-2005 03:43 PM

At the moment, I've been really diggin one of the new 'Bright Eyes' albums. the 'I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning' one.

A cross between Damien Rice and Ryan Adams :D

Zappa 03-10-2005 04:05 PM

Elliott Smith
Beck
Afrika Bambaataa
Shpongle
NoMeansNo
Frank Zappa
Nicholas Payton

That's what I've had playing today.

talk show host 03-10-2005 04:07 PM

I'm seriously in love with Calexico - Convict Pool at the moment.

I've just dug out the ol' Dredg - El Cielo too. I don't know why I haven't listened to this for so long :-/ So i'm diggin this too

Bartender 03-10-2005 04:11 PM
But it gives you an excuse to stop by HMV's sale again.

NP Grateful Dead, so I suppose you could say I'm digging them.
Man, I'm a moody motherfucker
You should bring some joy into your life and listen to Bjork :p

Zappa 03-10-2005 04:19 PM

I just mean that I listen to some weird combinations of shit. I mean, up to Afrika Bambaataa and down to Elliott Smith is quite a contrast of mood.

Little Man being Erased 03-10-2005 04:41 PM

I finally saw 24 Hour Party People the other night and now all I want to do is listen to Joy Division.

talk show host 03-10-2005 04:44 PM

They have that at the rental place down the road from me. I keep meaning to get it out, but I never seem to.

Little Man being Erased 03-10-2005 04:50 PM

You should get it, it's very good.

Iai 03-10-2005 04:52 PM

I was wondering, Afrika Bambaata and Sphongle, moody?

Does moody mean something different in America then? Here it generally means depressive.

Anyway, today I had a mainly post-punk day, because I basically gutted my coursework, ripped it all apart, and redid it from scratch. My post-rock version of a Smiths song has now become a post-punk version of Black Velvet by Alannah Myles. Think about it - references to 'molasses' and 'a new religion'? This is practically a Radiohead song!

And that paragraph was wierdly YDLoad-esque.

Anyway.

Joy Division - Permanent
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
Kraftwerk - The Man-Machine
Depeche Mode - Violator
The Cure - Disintegration
Talking Heads - Remain In Light

And some assorted Gang Of Four and Magazine, and even a little Can.

Zappa 03-10-2005 04:55 PM

I meant that my mood swings a lot. There was less than an hour between rockin' out to Bam and being gentle with Elliott.

Iai 03-10-2005 04:58 PM

Oh I see.

/resist urge to put 'oic'

I take offense to that! You spelled "YDload" and "weird" wrong.
