Olsen Olsen and Untitled 8 are my personal favourites, I think.
For those of you who are into a combination of Inflames, Meshuggah and just pure thrash check out DARKANE. X-drummer of arch ememy, two incredible lead/rythm guitarists and very significant vocals. I just purchased layers of lies and expanding senses. FÜcking incredible albums. There a must hear!!!!!
Darkane is not along the lines of In Flames (which is two words) or Meshuggah, great band, but where the hell did you drawthe connection?

Riziger 10-05-2005 07:04 AM

Thx guys

Cheers to Sigur Ros =P
I heard some of the more melodic SOAD stuff on the radio lately, and I'm liking it.

I never liked their fast/heavy/spastic songs, but I'll take suggestions for the melodic stuff, old or new. Heavy stuff is ok, as long as there's some melodic aspect to the song as well. I already know Forest, Toxicity and Chop Suey
bump

I think he just chucked in his three favourite bands to try and whore them.

Sam, I have no idea what to recommend, sorry.

Nuguns and AEAIOAIEO (whatever the crap it's called) are pretty good choices as well.

Brewer14 10-10-2005 07:31 PM

I've been listening to alot of Death Cab for Cutie and Sublime lately. I'm getting more and more into the Beatles too.

dUSK 10-10-2005 07:33 PM

Bluey, give Psycho, ATWA, Science, and Spiders a listen.

GenuineImitation 10-11-2005 12:33 PM

Fallen Zero 10-11-2005 04:41 PM

I've been listening more and more to the CDs:

"This Godless Endeavor" - Nevermore
"The Inner Circle" - Evergrey

They are two amazing cd's, and i was wondering what are the best ones to get from these two artists, other than the ones i have.

For Nevermore, get Enemies of Reality or Dreaming Neon Black. Sorry, not sure about Evergrey.
I'd just tell you to get Ace Of Spades (the album). That's what I like most that I've heard by them. But yeah, that's probably the most generic pick there is.
Thanks, I'll check it out.

Shadows Rise 10-11-2005 05:45 PM

Can anyone recommend me some metal bands sort of like Dream Theater? Although I hear symphony X mentioned a lot from this question. Im not a fan of their vocals so is there anything else? Thanks.

Bartender 10-11-2005 05:49 PM

Control Denied's self-titled album (essentially Death with a different vocalist, playing technical/progressive metal). You could also check out Liquid Tension Experiment, which I gather is like an instrumental Dream Theater.

Liquid Tension Experiment are a pretty good, and they feature 3 members from DT (Jphn Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, Jordan Rudess). Either of their two albums would make a good starting place.

Get the albums On Parole/Motorhead (hopefully the re-issue) and Bomber, as these are my favourite albums and they really are full of classic tracks.

Brewer 14 did you say you liked death cab for cutie? Me too cuz i'm a little girl lost in her insecurity and can't diredt herself tothe EMO SECTION or whatever it is: bedwetting section, crybabies unite, let's play complaining, i wanna die etc.

The songs Hourglass and Ashes of the Wake should fix you up nicely

Spiral Architect is kind of like Dream Theater. Avenged Sevenfold is kind of like a metalcore version of Dream Theater.

Contrary to everyone else, I would say to get their live album "No Sleep Till Hammersmith" it's a great selection of songs from the first four albums and the sound quality is much better than the albums themselves.

Nuke Broadcast 10-12-2005 09:55 PM

i see porcupine tree, yes, and team sleep mentioned on the forums quite a bit. ive gathered a little about them, but i'd like to hear a bit from each. any suggestions for songs to listen to would make my day.

Mailman 10-12-2005 11:38 PM

Hey guys,

I don't know if any of you have heard any Riverside, but if you could reccommend me something like that then I would be very grateful. (they are kind of symphonic prog, but google them for a review if you are interested. Very nice.)

Also, the song No Quater by Led Zeppelin, Indifference by Pearl Jam, the start of Present Tense by Pearl Jam, a few other songs - Could you recommend me some more songs with this kind of really mellow theme to them. I just love the No Quater feel.

Try the band Anathema, they are very atmospheric, not always soft though, not usually happy either, but it's awsome music

These are varying types of mellow
Broken Social Scene - Looks Just Like The Sun, Lover's Spit, Cranley's Gonna Make It.
Aphex Twin - Nanou2, Xtal, Iz-Us
Salmonella Dub - Push On Through, Ez On
The National - Daughters Of The Soho Riots
Fagan - Dante, Slight Return, Beautiful Mundane
The Gathering - Great Ocean Road
the underwater theme from Donkey Kong Country on SNES
