The Sunset Tree is the best starting point for The Mountain Goats imo, then branch out from there.

Listening to Women right now. . . I dunno if they've been discussed on here.

They're pretty neat, anyway. Kinda jump all over stylistically (er, well, jump to anything that's white and heavily influenced by the velvet underground).

Also, Frog Eyes. I love them.

Belle & Sebastian

Growing more and more enamoured with this band, and they're becoming one of my favs. I'd heard them a while ago and written them off as boring, but my perspectives have changed I guess. It's the excellent lyrics, combined with the Scottish accent which gets me...maybe because I'm Scottish it hammers home more, but either way, I'm loving this band a lot just now. Their first 3 albums are all I've heard, but I'm loving each one of them.

Zmev 08-24-2008 04:22 PM

You still need Dear Catastrophe Waitress and The Life Pursuit. The two albums in between those and the first ones and the bsides can be saved until later.

Bukowski 08-24-2008 04:25 PM

Thanks dude, I'll get those next.

Yup. Don't really know if their album's all that great but they have a couple good songs. I'm really interested in what they're going to put out next.

Correction 08-24-2008 04:37 PM

I never really got into Belle and Sebastian as much as I probably should have. If You're Feeling Sinister is pretty sweet though.

Stars of the Lid are my main digs now though.

All I've liked by them is the Life Pursuit, although I did get that along with Sinister and Arab Strap all for like 5 dollars, so I may have just not put enough time in with those.

Except for the Life Pursuit, they were kinda reminiscent of Peanuts music.

the first two songs from arab strap are great
and the song if you're feeling sinister and last song from that album are great too

the rest of those albums kind of pass me by, in a good way.
