This I will not debate. I mean. Who solos in 22/4 anyways? Shi'
PS: No one say anything about fusion.
Soloing in 22/4 is about as complex as the song Hey Ya by Outkast |
Why do you say that?
|
22/4 = 5 bars of 4/4 and one in half time
Hey ya is something like... 7 bars of 4/4 and one in half time.. I can't remember exactly |
What i've gotten out of that song is that it is about the relationship between Maynard and his son.
Thats what i heard too |
Okay....can someone tell me exactly what the lower number means on the time signature? I know, in 4/4, that the top number means the number of beats in each bar, but I don't get the lower number.
|
The lower number means the value of a whole note. I'm not suire if whole is what it's called, haha.
|
Wait...what?
|
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whole_note
The lower number means the value of that note^^ So if it's a 4/4, then the whole note has a value of 4 times. |
So the whole note is played four times?
|
No. The whole note is played once, but it has a value of four times, so one whole note lasts what 4 black notes last in a 4/4.
|
I kind of get that now, but I'll need further explanation to get it.
Thank you, though! |
Im glad you understood my crappy explanation. :)
|
Top number is how many beats are in a measure, and the bottom number is what type of note gets the beat.
The whole note always has four quarters. The whole note can be divided into four parts (quarter notes), eight parts (eighth note), etc. So if the time signature is 4/4, then each quarter note gets a beat, and there are four quarter notes in one measure. If it is 6/8, then each eighth note gets a beat, and there are 6 eight notes in every measure. Whereas in a x/4 time signature, there are two eighth notes to every beat, in a x/8 time signature each eighth note gets its own beat. |

Hey ya is something like... 7 bars of 4/4 and one in half time.. I can't remember exactly
That's like saying all Meshuggah songs are simple because they're all in 4/4. //// Sure, it can be 4 bars of 4/4 and one in cut time, but it can also be a 7/7/8 break. Either way, why don't you try and play the drum solo in 46 & 2, then do it live to perfection every other night in front of ~20,000 people. |

If it's a 7/7/8 split, then it's compound time and would be 22/8 (or 22/16). 22/4 implies that it's 4/4/4/4/4/2 Technically, 22/4 doesn't really exist |
Well my friends, I'm off too see Tool in about 20 minutes. I'm so excited.

Awesome. Full report when you get back. They'll probably suck. |

Yeah. Terrible band :p What does your avatar mean? The area I live in is called the Inland Empire. |
Personally I'm really glad I'm not seeing Tool. I'm sure it wouldn't be awesome to see Danny Carey completely pwn the drums in concert.
|
Yeah, this is probably a bad idea.
Man, were good at this sarcastic thing. >.> <.< Right? |
Yeah. Terrible band :p
What does your avatar mean? The area I live in is called the Inland Empire.
New film that premeired yesterday from my favorite director, David Lynch. It may or may not partly take place in the Inland Empire. It's a cool name though. |
Cool, I'll have to check that out.
|
It premiered at the Venice Film Festival, so it'll be a few months before it goes to theaters. But when it does, you'll hear me raving on about it plenty, so don't worry about missing it. ;)
|
I like David Lynch! I'll have to see this one.
|
Knoife - Well then I guess it's 22/8, but it doesn't matter. The point is, Carey is okay at drumming and stuff.
Lunch - Yeah, I agree with you. I've heard Justin's bass tone only gets 10 times better live, and it's true. I felt so jipped. :-/ Hey, there's an Inland Empire in Washington as well. Wahah, um, yeah. |
Alright, I'm back. My show was great. They've gone like the other shows reported. Amazing new visuals, great setlists. But there's one thing guys...
They did it. I couldn't believe it when I heard the first few moments... THEY FUCKIN' PLAYED WINGS FOR MARIE/10,000 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was SOOOOOOO amazing. I felt really luck to have seen it. They played it almost perfectly. There were no rain sounds, but it weas okay without. Toward the beginning of Wings though Maynard had some problem that was never explained and had to run off stages and missed some of his lines. That's all though, other than that it was great. I'm also impressed by how great the crowd was during the song. Aside from an inevitable fight going on below me, everyone was very into the song and wasn't obnoxious and ruining it like I'd expected. Best show ever. I was floored. |
That's awesome :thumb:
I really wish I was going to see them, but my friends already got tickets, and I can't afford them anyways :( |
Oh man, I'd kill to see WFM/10kd. I can just imagine all the lighting and the visuals.
|
The lighting and visuals during that song are outstanding.
Lateralus' and Rosetta Stoned's rival them though. |
