Ok no problem. thanks a lot again

this is amazing!!!

NP: Sonata Arctica's AMAZING cover of Fade to Black
Told you so :)
Sonata Arctica are fucking amazing anyway
Well, that goes without saying... but there are awesome bands that do really really bad covers sometimes, and this is one of the exceptions, heh.

And thanks to the other guys for sending me things, you win a little something something for your help.

Joe 10-25-2005 01:26 PM
Sonata Arctica are fucking amazing anyway.

Best cover ever I have heard is the Nighwish version of Symphony of destruction by Megadeth

(no Tarja on that one)
Yes they are. This and CoB's version of Aces High are the best covers I've ever heard.

I do miss the solo at the end... but it gives me a chance to play along so i do :D

Shadows 10-25-2005 01:28 PM

I need some more In Flames. :( I only actually own Colony, but I love Whoracle, Clayman, and Reroute to Remain as well. Great stuff.

/late

But in the meantime I'm really in the mood for Dusk & Her Embrace.

I can send you a number of songs when I get back from class, if you'd like.

I love that song...
They were one of the pioneers of the genre that is for sure. At The Gates started it, but Dark Tranquillity and In Flames perfected it imo. by far not generic, the bands who copy them are the generic ones.

I love Arcturus with a passion and same with Solefald, but I give In Flames a ton of respect right up there with my favorites due to them getting me into "real" metal so to say.

So if I had never heard them, I would probably have never heard of Arcturus and all these other bands. In Flames sparked my interest to get into heavier music and go on a quest to search for it pretty much.

So meh.
At The Gates did not start it Jason, Dark Tranquillity and Ceremonial Oath did, At The Gates formed in 1990, wheras Dark Tranquillity and Ceremonial Oath's first demos were in 1989.

Shadows 10-25-2005 01:33 PM

I would most definitely appreciate that Jom. :)

That's one of my favorite CD's. Sheer perfection. Me loves A Gothic Romance.

Haha, yeah, I just checked it. I could listen to that album over and over without end.

Wait, I've already done that!

Arucard 10-25-2005 01:46 PM

Can someone send me this Sonata cover?

Stoic 10-25-2005 03:36 PM

Heh, I've just seen some reviews written ShadowsFallen in MA. I didnt expect him to write such a review on the LoG album but anyways. Is anyone else an active member (has many points, writes reviews, posts in the forums etc)?

iliketoplaydrums10111 10-25-2005 04:07 PM

Lord Abortion 10-25-2005 04:07 PM

Symphonic Black metal/avant garde

iliketoplaydrums10111 10-25-2005 04:08 PM

Thanks

Bartender 10-25-2005 04:09 PM

Why do you need to know?

Arrakakaka 10-25-2005 04:10 PM

They used to be avant garde-metal with symphonic black metal influences. Yet as they progressed, they turned less and less black metal.

i am the robots 10-25-2005 04:17 PM

Yeah, and their non-black metalesque material is definately better, not because black metal sucks or anything, but because it's absolutely amazing.

When it's October in So. Cal, it's not that bad. ;) But it does get cold sometimes.

Even their early material, although slightly more conventional for their standards, certainly differed from the norm.

I found the entire Arcturus Discography (I only own LMI) at the store today, plus two Doomsword albums but instead I bought a Falkenbach one. Crime? I didnt know what to do :\

Wow, I didn't think anyone would actually notice. You didn't know I felt that way about Lamb of God?

iliketoplaydrums10111 10-25-2005 04:28 PM

Because in Astronomy we're studying stars and I knew Arcturus was a band (Apart of constellation Bootes) and I was wondering what genre they where

Just go back some time soon, not too many people know who/what the Hell Arcturus is anyway, so it'll probably all be there.

Stoic 10-25-2005 04:30 PM

No, mainly because I dont pay much attention to discussions where such bands are mentioned :p I trust the reviews submitted in MA more than any other site.

I read your other reviews as well and although I disagree with you at some points (it's a matter of taste ;)) I find them well written and helpful (they give a good idea of what an album sounds like). Do you post your reviews on sputnik as well? god I must start visiting it some time!

I'll try to do so as soon as I get some money :) I'm willing to buy the Sham Mirrors

Jom 10-25-2005 04:32 PM

ShadowsFallen:

I'm trying to organize that In Flames stuff for you, but where do you want me to send it?

Shadows 10-25-2005 04:32 PM

Well, AIM transfers don't work for me for some strang reason. Would you be able to YSI and AIM me the link or something?

That's understandable, everyone has different taste. Thank you, by the way.

Do I post reviews on sputnik!? :p

I write reviews now and then, normally on albums by bands that you wouldn't expect a good album from. Like Atreyu's Visions.

Jom 10-25-2005 04:34 PM
Well, AIM transfers don't work for me for some strang reason. Would you be able to YSI and AIM me the link or something?
Yeah, I could. I'm still organizing, I haven't sent it yet :)

Lord Abortion 10-25-2005 04:34 PM

I haven't even got From the cradle to enslave, WTF they were doing with that EP I don't know...

Shadows 10-25-2005 04:36 PM

It was so incredibly bad. :( I bought it, only because I'm a huge CoF fan, and the title track was amazing.

I don't have as many MA reviews, but I've been meaning to write more for them. Since an MA review is just in a crowd, I can be a little more succinct and not so incredibly detailed like on sputnik. It's much easier.

Kurtz 10-25-2005 04:51 PM
When it's October in So. Cal, it's not that bad. ;) But it does get cold sometimes.
Blegh, it's barely cold. People here are too sensitive about weather. It was only like 60 today and everyone was all "ZOMG ITS FREEZING WHY ARENT YOU WEARING A JACKET".

If you want cold, go to Boston in January.

i am the robots 10-25-2005 04:57 PM

It's like 35 degrees where I live, so gg.

Shadows 10-25-2005 04:58 PM

Same here. Everyone insists that it's too cold, but I love the cold.

Shred Danson 10-25-2005 04:58 PM
When it's October in So. Cal, it's not that bad. But it does get cold sometimes.
Yeah, fricken' tell me about it...it gets kinda chilly in the mornings but works it's way up back to normal...I don't miss that  It's like 45 here in the great land o' Dixie. Love it. Screw being hot all the time. It was always the same weather in California.
I write reviews now and then, normally on albums by bands that you wouldn't expect a good album from. Like Atreyu's Visions.
So today I got hold of Dave Brubeck Quartet Time out. Good stuff, I'm really liking it so far. Also, tomorrow I'm gonna play with the band for the first time in quite a while so that's something I'm looking forward to.

My friend keeps his room at a constat 60 degrees. Once you've been in his room for a couple of hours, 65 degree weather is bliss.

Arucard 10-25-2005 05:04 PM

I just thought it was Trilemma going of on one again.
My friend keeps his room at a constat 60 degrees. Once you've been in his room for a couple of hours, 65 degree weather is bliss.
Heh.

I always keep my room with a fan on at all times though. I hate that feeling when you wake up in the morning and your room has that warm and "greasy" feeling to it. It literally makes me feel like a piece of crap.

i am the robots 10-25-2005 05:10 PM

I hate cold weather, when you get sick it just feels worse, and I'm almost always sick.
