Glitterati 04-05-2005 09:04 PM

Sup classic rockers?
I just watched SRV Live at Montreaux. He is amazing. Especially live.
He is. Back in '84, my parents saw him. And he was opening for the Dire Straits, I might add

pigonthewing82 04-05-2005 09:06 PM

My parents saw him about two weeks before he died.

They also saw the Dead when I was in the womb

Good to know. Any particular favs?

Illmatic 04-05-2005 09:25 PM

SRV is an okay blues player but he doesn't strike me as being extraordinary.

PinkFreud 04-05-2005 09:32 PM
SRV is an okay blues player but he doesn't strike me as being extraordinary.
well he wasnt the most original but he **** sure knew his way around his guitar. some of his stuff is quite technically challenging. also, his cover of little wing is 6 minutes of some of the best and most tasteful guitar playing i have ever heard. in my opinion of course.

Illmatic 04-05-2005 09:33 PM

Of course.

He's talented, but is stuff is pretty same-y and doesn't do much for me.

You know, I could see where your coming from if you mean being original (whitch is usually the first thing I look for in a guitar player). The reasons I respect him so much are that he is very good, and that he kept the blues alive and mainstream at a time when it was dying.

Me too. :smoke:

What ever happened to SRV anyway?
Of course.

I feel the same way, he is an incredible player but seems to have no variety. He just solos all the time.

magicbus 04-05-2005 09:52 PM
Me too. :smoke:

He died in a helicopter accident in 1990. When I was watching the DVD, I forgot that he was dead for a while.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 04-05-2005 09:58 PM

Any concert footage on DVD?

Illmatic 04-05-2005 09:58 PM
I feel the same way, he is an incredible player but seems to have no variety. He just solos all the time.
And his solos all begin to sound the same too.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 04-05-2005 10:02 PM

You again? I thought you shot yourself after the game last night. :p

I think he's the best white blues singer ever. (exept Cap. Beefheart)

Has anyone heard Soul to Soul?

Badmoon 04-05-2005 10:24 PM
I think he's the best white blues singer ever. (exept Cap. Beefheart)
Blues is just a portion of Beefheart's music.

SRV is all Blues.

Illmatic 04-05-2005 10:24 PM

Don't get me started on the game last night :upset:

B0nz0 04-05-2005 10:31 PM

my favorite white blues singer is janis joplin, followed by joe cocker

Absolutely tragic, I think. I mean, we keep losing rock legends in air vehicle crashes. Buddy Holly, SRV... when I become a legend, I'm traveling by car.

I'm just surprised Don McLean didn't write a 10 minute song about SRV's death. Not to be bashing "American Pie"; it is, of course, an amazing song. I haven't heard it in years, though. Darn.

Oh, and great avatar/usertitle. Stever Howe = the man. I [heart] Yes.
60's and 70's were when rock was at it's pinacle. today it seems to be going further down hill...but along the way there were some 80's greats, like queen, ac/dc, van halen, billy joel, etc. let's not forget them, they are classic rock as well.

i notice no1's mentioned george thorogood, the doobie bros., iron butterfly, the animals, srv, journey, styx, the moody blues... etc. what are some of ur favorite lesser know classic rock artists?
Queen weren't eighties, they started in 1971

Yea the whole dvd is two concerts, and a documentary on them. It was really cool. Its called Live At Montreaux 1982-1985. You should check it out.
