Why did it die?
It was just old, I think :( Eventually it just wouldn't ever recognise that there was a disc in it's tray.

At first, using a laser cleaning disc thing helped it limp along for a few more days, but then it couldn't recognise the cleaning disc itself :-/

Random conversation that ensued at lunch today at the all-you-choose-to-eat buffet on campus today:

[Scene: the 'special' (aside from what's normally there) was an Asian theme. Naturally, we all took fortune cookies.

Everyone eats, and we're sitting around shooting the shit.]

Friend 1: Hey, guys, read your fortunes.

Friend 2: Don't forget to tack on "in bed!" to the end of it.

Friend 3: Wait, I've never heard of this.

Friend 2: Yeah dude, EVERYONE does it, just read it for fun.

[Friend 3 opens]: "You will be firm in your decisions."

Friends 1, 4, and 5: In bed!

[laughter]

Friend 1: "You enjoy the finer things in life."

Everyone: In bed!

Me: "You have a friendly heart and are well-admired."

Everyone: In bed!

And this carries on for awhile.

So, we finally get to Friend 2, who was so adamant about adding "in bed!" to everyone's fortune.

Friend 2: [opens up cookie, reads, starts cracking up] No way, man, I'm not reading this.

Friend 4: What?! Come on.

/me snatches fortune from his hand and runs around the table

Friend 2: NO! Dude, don't!

/me reads fortune, starts cracking up

Friend 2: Aw, come on, don't do it!

Everyone except Friend 2: Just fucking read it!

[People start staring at our table]

Me: 'Matt is loyal to his family.'

Everyone: ... IN BED!

[Whole place starts laughing]

Luckily, Friend 2 has good humor. He knew it was going to be funny to begin with, but hey.

So, yeah. That's my random little conversation for the day.

I'm waiting for the day when someone gets an incredibly disturbing or morbid fortune in his cookie next time we have Oriental Special Day at the buffet.

I have the album, some of the worst music i have ever heard.

If you want progressive, Symphony X > DT.

Vikingcore : I have become addicted to The Jester Race Again.

'You will never live again. You will never die again. You will never be born again. You will always be stuck, here in eternity. AHHHHHHHHH!'

It's : You will never be along again. You will never die again. You will never be born again. You will forever be stuck here in eternity.

/2nd favorite In Flames song.

Plus the original version on Lunar Strain/Subterranean is the better version as well, especially since that spoken part sounds more haunting.

NP - In Flames - Behind Space

Arucard 10-25-2005 12:26 PM

Ahh sorry :( I love how Behind Space goes from so fast to absolutely mosh friendly in the verse.

My faverouite In Flames song is Gyroscope.

I still don't care for Colony though.

Both versions are amazing IMO, still I say Whoracle > other In Flames CDs, and Joe, try listening to Colony the entire album through a few times before saying you don't like it. It all flows together quite well.

BTW I downloaded every Arcturus album Bobo has last night on SLSK.

Arucard 10-25-2005 12:31 PM

I have listened to it so much :( I've had it for over half a year now, i just can't get into it.

Zombie Inc is class though.

the2stranger 10-25-2005 12:31 PM

In Flames are ok IMO.
Nothing special, or atleast I never got the special part.
they sound a bit generic to me, I can't stand to listen an entire cd

i am the robots 10-25-2005 12:32 PM

How are they generic? Are they generic for playing a style they basically invented.

I'm sure Bobo loves Arcturus or Solefald more than In Flames

or I think so atleast :p

hail teh Avant-Garde

Joe 10-25-2005 12:36 PM

Ah yes, the new thread title is good.
In Flames are ok IMO.
I've only heard one of their songs, dialogue with the stars.

lightningmetal666 10-25-2005 12:37 PM

I think bobo just made fun of me in the Rammstein thread. Oh well, wouldn't be the first person.

BoboTheRagingHobo 10-25-2005 12:39 PM
How are they generic? Are they generic for playing a style they basically invented.
They were one of the pioneers of the genre that is for sure. At The Gates started it, but Dark Tranquillity and In Flames perfected it imo. by far not generic, the bands who copy them are the generic ones.

I love Arcturus with a passion and same with Solefald, but I give In Flames a ton of respect right up there with my favorites due to them getting me into "real" metal so to say.

So if I had never heard them, I would probably have never heard of Arcturus and all these other bands. In Flames sparked my interest to get into heavier music and go on a quest to search for it pretty much.

So meh.

everyone to his own.
but anyways I prefer Dark Tranquillity to In Flames, more coherent songwriting, better flow and it sounds less 'forced' if you know what I mean :-/

Actually I was telling the threadstarter that there was already a rammstein thread. Just trying to help MX out, didn't want to make waves with others.

Unplugged in New York is the only Nirvana I like.

The Sonata Arctica cover of "Fade to Black" is the best Metallica cover I've ever heard.

If anyone has any other serious contenders (besides Avril Lavigne, because she practically blows everyone else out of the water when it comes to accuracy to the original track), please let me know.

But man, Sonata Arctica are pretty freakin' awesome covering this song.

Lord Abortion 10-25-2005 01:22 PM

Sonata Arctica are fucking amazing anyway.

Best cover ever I have heard is the Nighwish version of Symphony of destruction by Megadeth

(no Tarja on that one)
