Walrus Gumboot 07-22-2005 07:44 PM

Lunch 07-22-2005 07:45 PM

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 07-22-2005 08:23 PM

Wanton: Would if I could but my computer for some reason doesn't work with YSI. Sorry man :-/

phobia: Eric Dolphy (it's Free Jazz)

Tudrickville 07-22-2005 08:30 PM

I love classic rock like: Cream, Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Stones, The Who, Sabbath, even though I dont know how neatly they fit into that group, but I have friends who also like this music, and they also like old country blues stuff like: Robert Johnson, Son House those great old recordings and I was wondering if that was a trend with other people too.

BludgeonySteve 07-22-2005 09:21 PM

Old country/blues goes very well the bands that you like. Most of them were blues and country based.

Lunch 07-22-2005 09:29 PM

All those bands are very blues based.

BludgeonySteve 07-22-2005 09:30 PM
All those bands are very blues based.
black sabbath isn't very blues based. Just a little.

The Rolling Stones had some country-ish songs as well.

Lunch 07-22-2005 09:33 PM
The Rolling Stones had some country-ish songs as well.
They started out very blues/R&B influenced.

magicbus 07-22-2005 09:55 PM

Yea they were extremely blues influenced, like the other British Invasion guys.

My favorite Stones cd, Let It Bleed, is very country-fied though. That's why I love it.

EDIT: Before they were Sabbath, the guys were in a blues band (I forget the name right now). They kept a lot of their blues influences in Sabbath too.

Canadian-Guy 07-22-2005 09:58 PM

Speaking of blues/r & b influenced British Invasion bands, I heard "House Of The Rising Sun" by The Animals on the radio today. Good song.

np: The Beach Boys - Wouldn't It Be Nice?

BludgeonySteve 07-22-2005 10:08 PM

The Beach boys make me happy, but too much of them causes headaches. Don't ask me why.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 07-22-2005 10:11 PM

I think the Stones were the ones who sparked the interest in Blues amung the British Invasion bands. I'm pretty sure it was them but I could be wrong.

Bill Wyman (Stones' bass player) released a coffee table book and it's like the history of Blues it gives tons of profiles of different Bluesmen and it's the greatest book about music I've ever seen. It's in my libary I'll try to steal it next year.

I don't care for any of the Beach Boys' material. I like Brian Wilson's Smile alot though.

BludgeonySteve 07-22-2005 10:19 PM

Smile is great. My mom has it and I listen to it.

That's right, I listen to my mother's cds, whatcha gonna do? Call me names?

please don't :(

PinkFreud 07-22-2005 10:20 PM

bill wymans blues odyssey? i believe ive heard of it before. i think theres a dvd too.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 07-22-2005 10:27 PM

Yea that's what it's called. It's an amazing book.

So......"Sympathy for the Devil".......great song. They went from acting like hippies to talking about how their the devil.

jpj 07-22-2005 10:27 PM

I was disappointed with Smile.

Glitterati 07-22-2005 10:55 PM

That Bill Wyman book is a great read.

Yeah, it mentions Clapton
EDIT: Before they were Sabbath, the guys were in a blues band (I forget the name right now). They kept a lot of their blues influences in Sabbath too.
Earth I believe.

And I think Sabbath is a bit blues influenced, moreso earlier on in like Paranoid period then with Dio and stuff.

Glitterati 07-23-2005 12:44 AM

Long John Baldry passed away today :(

Seafroggys 07-23-2005 01:07 AM

Yeah, and James Doohan died several days ago too (not even classic rock related).

*sniff* Scotty was my favorite character too.

JonG 07-23-2005 12:52 PM

Does anybody have the Grateful Dead s/t?

Lunch 07-23-2005 12:53 PM
Does anybody have the Grateful Dead s/t?
You mean the 1967 one right? I can upload it.

JonG 07-23-2005 12:54 PM

Yeah. My Dead collection in this computer is growing rapidly thanks to you.

:)

BludgeonySteve 07-23-2005 01:16 PM

My Dead collection isn't so much a collection than just their two highest rated albums but hippy posers.

Walrus Gumboot 07-23-2005 02:12 PM

Has anyone heard Bjork's Medulla? It's almost 100% vocals, with the exception of a couple songs with electronic something or other, and one with piano. I think it changed my way of thinking about music more than I even know

Steve Miller Band/George Thorogood & The Destroyers

Walrus Gumboot 07-23-2005 07:15 PM

Completely disregarding the "best" or "greatest" albums of Classic Rock, which would you say are the most essential: for example albums that are must-haves for even the newest n00b to CR, or albums that you would recommend to get people hooked on CR. Maybe the most mainsteam too. Stuff that does not need an aquiered taste.
I would say:
Led Zeppelin- Zoso (or II)
The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper's (or Abbey Rd.)
The Doors- s/t
Jimi Hendrix Experience- Are You Experienced?
