Complete random tangeant, but i finished downloading one of the sides to Tarkus, and holy crap that is the most ****ing awesome piece of work I have ever heard.

I haven't heard much of ELP until this point, but now i think I"m in love. Time to go on a spending spree.

Glitterati 04-02-2005 01:08 AM

Speaking of random tangeants, is anyone else a Johnny Cash fan? Lately, I've been going through all my dads Johnny Cash CDs, and they're amazing. He was pretty cool.
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

This is the thread for general classic rock discussion.
**** i notice it. all of my friends love classic rock..... hell thats wat i want my next band to play lol

JPJ bassist 04-02-2005 03:58 AM

hmmmm i was about 12 when i saw an add on the tv for the beatles '1' album. i liked what i saw and started listening to queen. dragged my dads old doors records out, listened to them then brought 'how the west was won' by led zeppelin. lol

I think The Sage is a pretty good song.
I love a lot of Johnny Cash's earlier and later recordings. At Folsom Prison is brilliant, and his American Recording Series from the '90s is quite different, but still really good stuff to listen to. And I really love his cover of Hurt as well. I didn't think it was going to work when I heard about it, but when I saw the video I had my mind changed. And considering I'm a huge Nine Inch Nails fan, that says something.
I just recently got At Folsom Prison actually, and yeah, it's good. "The Wall" is excellent. Johnny Cash was just great, really.

Incidentally, is Elvis Costello ever discussed in here?

Badmoon 04-02-2005 11:08 AM

Actually, I don't recall talking about Elvis Costello.

Just got Tea for the Tillerman

Very good album.
