A Dream in Sound - Elf Power

Bartender 03-07-2005 06:09 PM
Why for some reason? Jeff Beck is awesome.
Yeah, but I've had two of his albums for a couple of months now, and though I've listened to them, I've not really listened to them, if you see what I mean, and now I am, for no real reason. He is awesome, though. I like the contrast between his earlier albums and his later ones.

I have an immense amount of repsect for Jeff Beck, especially after taking a chance with the recent "techno infused" albums of his.

Sound Boy 03-07-2005 08:20 PM

i have Dummy. but anything else?

For the past few days I've listened to

Th Bronx - S/T
Death Cab - The Photo Album
Ratatat - S/T
Godflesh - Streetcleaner
Of Montreal - Satanic Panic in the Attic
Arab Strap - The Cunted Circus
Big Black - Songs About F ucking
Shellac - live in UK
Enchant - Tug of War

and I'm so engrossed with The Shape of Punk to Come.

br3ad_man 03-08-2005 12:41 AM

M83, Carcass and Slayer. As well as a bit of Trail of Dead. I need something to study maths to now though. hmmm

3rdplanet 03-08-2005 03:36 AM

Picked up the Mr. Bungle self titled CD the other day for a fiver, it is ownalicious.

Yeah, they're incredibly good. Hasn't he made three of them? I only have the one, and I can't seem to find the others anywhere (though I really want Jeff, since "So What" was the first song I ever heard by him, and it's amazing).

Anyway, today's main dig-ables have been a little of Jesu's self-titled, and (mainly) Talking Heads More Songs About Buildings and Food. Finally dragged myself to that HMV sale, bought it (amongst other things), and since getting home I've been more or less captivated since the first track, which is unusual for me.

Doctor D. 03-08-2005 03:28 PM

I'm back on The Residents.

vallely2004 03-08-2005 03:40 PM

Recently I have been digging Soulwax alot, I got their first album today and been giving that a listen.

Iai 03-08-2005 03:40 PM

Wow, this avatar is like a contagious disease.

Good work everyone. :)

Well_Respected_Man 03-08-2005 05:18 PM

It's like a meem!

Little Man being Erased 03-08-2005 05:19 PM

The Faint. I've been learning to play "I Disappear" on bass. Fun stuff.

asymm 03-08-2005 05:39 PM

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground
and
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
^I'm always listening to this one it seems...

talk show host 03-08-2005 06:40 PM

I don't care what my housemates say. Damien Rice is awesome.

Little Man being Erased 03-08-2005 06:44 PM

Zappa 03-08-2005 06:45 PM

Metallica

Little Man being Erased 03-08-2005 06:48 PM

Wha...

I never pictured you as a Metallica kinda guy, Zap.

Zappa 03-08-2005 06:50 PM

Their first three albums are fantastic.

Herman's Hermits- "I'm Into Something Good"

If you know what movie this is from, you are

talk show host 03-08-2005 06:58 PM

'Tallica have written some classic songs in the past. Some of their stuff you just can't argue with. I stand by Master of Puppets and Enter Sandman as truly great songs.

It's probably from many films. I think I know which you mean, though.

They have some good power ballads like "Fade to Black," but they also followed the live tradition of making songs to kick asses to. Like "Seek and Destroy," "Battery," or "Creeping Death."

I only know Battery out of those last three you mentioned, which coincidentally is another good song. I'm not big on Metallica to be honest, I only know their 'hits'.

Little Man being Erased 03-08-2005 07:02 PM

I suppose I can admit that some of the old Metallica records are pretty good, but I've never really been a fan of metal in general (some exceptions aside).

one, two and a big three.

Zappa 03-08-2005 07:29 PM

"Battery" is my favorite song of theirs, actually.

They only have a few bad songs on the first three albums. "Escape," "Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)," and "Disposable Heroes" being those songs. I think Master of Puppets is their best album, but Ride the Lightning was my favorite through elementary and middle school.

I liked Escape because it showed their NWOBHM roots; nice and cheesy.

talk show host 03-08-2005 07:36 PM

Zappa and I have the exact same postcount! :o

Not anymore :p Unless he's posted recently.

Zappa 03-08-2005 07:40 PM

We do once more.

Zappa 03-08-2005 07:40 PM

No!

talk show host 03-08-2005 07:40 PM

Not really...:p

Little Man being Erased 03-08-2005 07:41 PM

crazy

Zappa 03-08-2005 07:44 PM

I wonder where THS and I would be if we were the same sorts of veterans that we are, but post-whores as well. Compared to most, we're pretty reserved.

Yeah, I still find it hard to believe that some people can get 8,000 posts in a few months.

NineBitFable 03-08-2005 10:05 PM

I recently decided to listen to SP's MCIS in its entirity... pretty cool, the songs that are bad (Scorched earth comes to mind..) dont stand out as much when thrown against such a huge number of good songs, and theres just such a variety that it never gets boring. Very cool.

Wanker 03-08-2005 10:07 PM

I've really been diggin' Hex by Bark Psychosis and a bunch of Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, and Fly Pan Am.
