Hey, could someone get me a few good grindcore bands, similiar to D.R.I and SOD?
Those bands are not eve close to grindcore...those two bands fit more into with thrash if any thing.

Grind is more along the lines of Napalm Death, Pig Destroyer, The Berzerker, !T.O.O.H.!, Carcass (early era) etc etc.

someone recommend me some really really melodic metal. thanks.

In Flames (older albums- The Jester Race, Whoracle, Colony), Kalmah (they have the best voice i've ever heard), and Norther are all really melodic death metal, they're also some of my favorite bands. Check out Kalmah's They Will Return and Norther's Mirror of Madness (the title song rocks). Norther also has a nice cover of The Final Countdown.

You'd probably like Children of Bodom too if you havn't already heard them, but there more Power Metal with harsh vocals, but they're still really talented and very melodic. I'd reccomend Follow The Reaper as their best album.

If your looking for some heavier stuff, Arsis and At The Gates are also good too.

I really would'nt call either of those bands "jazz".

Cynic
Athiest
Gordian Knot

is his best choices.

Shazzam 10-02-2005 03:42 PM

Anyone else know any power metal bands with harsh vocals along the lines of Kalmah, Norther, and CoB?

Lykathea Aflame is sort of 'jazz' metal too.

Bartender 10-02-2005 06:01 PM

I don't see the jazz in Lykathea :-/

blueyxd 10-02-2005 09:50 PM

I heard some of the more melodic SOAD stuff on the radio lately, and I'm liking it.

I never liked their fast/heavy/spastic songs, but I'll take suggestions for the melodic stuff, old or new. Heavy stuff is ok, as long as there's some melodic aspect to the song as well. I already know Forest, Toxicity and Chop Suey

Kaiwaz 10-02-2005 11:08 PM
KISS - Unholy
KISS - Psycho Circus
AC/DC - Highway to hell
Motley Crue - Kickstart my heart
Metallica - Enter Sandman
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Megadeth - Moto Psycho
Motorhead - Bomber
Alice Cooper - School's out
Black Sabbath - Computer God
Ozzy - Crazy Train
Ozzy - Bark at the moon

i know i'll probably get flamed for the Metallica one, but it is good to drive to.
and if you haven't heard the KISS one's give them a listen, they are quite heavy.
I hate you.

GenuineImitation 10-03-2005 04:44 PM

Can someone recommend me some Amon Amarth.

systmj 10-03-2005 08:09 PM

Alright... lookin' for some new music. Here's some of the stuff that I like now, so if anyone can find me some music that sounds similar to any of these songs, I'd be happy.

Pink Floyd's Umma Gumma album
Led Zepplin - We're Gunna Groove
Canned Heat - Woodstock Boogie
Muddy Waters - Got My Mojo Workin'
Queens of the Stone Age's Songs for the Dead album

Jawaharal 10-03-2005 08:10 PM
Canvas Solaris are probably worth a shot as well.
Can't find them anywhere. :upset:

as for athiest, I had one of their albums, but I can't find it :upset:. And its damn impossible to find them on soulseek.

Cynic and gordain knot I've yet to check out, but will very soon. I'm in a bit of a jazz phase right now.

If you like Ummagumma you'll like anything by Mike Patton. Mr. Bungle is a great starting place for avant-garde.

For songs for the deaf, I'd pick up some Melvins stuff.

Canvas Solaris, Cynic and Gordian Knot are all (or were all) easily available on http://www.lasercd.com. I think Canvas Solaris' releases are available on Amazon.

Atheist have just had all three of their albums reissued, so they should be easy to find now (from http://www.relapse.com, if nowhere else).

MarkOsullivan 10-04-2005 12:50 PM

3rdplanet 10-04-2005 01:07 PM

Could I get some recommendations for bands that sound similar to Botch?

Riziger 10-05-2005 01:08 AM

Could anyone pls recommend any single or song by Sigur Ros that is like their best song or something like dat? Ive read a lot about them and am interested...

dUSK 10-05-2005 01:16 AM

Starálfur was the song that got me into them, but Olsen Olsen, Svefn-g-englar, and Untitled #4 would also be great starters.
