True, but I'm sure they'll still kick ass

Steerpike 10-22-2005 10:56 PM

The problem is that believing that creates a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Take for example, say... The Misfits. When Glenn Danzig left the bad, they wanted to continue, and they picked up Michale Graves. Most of the old fans said that Danzig was The Misfits, and it would not be anywhere near as good without him. Thus far I haven't seen any of them admit they were wrong. Those that approached with curiosity and hope really liked the Graves era.

So to be realistic, Tarja had a distinctive voice, but she isn't the end-all of female vocalists. And according to Tuomas, she had very little creative input in the band, so the main difference will probably simply be a new voice.

Shadows 10-22-2005 10:58 PM

But in their case, the voice was about 80% of their sound. I think the vocals are going to make it seem like a completely different band, even if the songwriting hasn't changed.

Jom 10-22-2005 10:59 PM

So long as it isn't Amy Lee or Christina Scabbia, that's good news. I really enjoy Once as an album, and if for some reason I see Nightwish live in the future, it'll be weird hearing a different vocalist.

Cain 10-22-2005 11:00 PM

Well, now that I think about it, Tarja's voice changed drastically from album to album. I mean, it was full-blown operatic on an album like "Oceanborn" and much more poppy on the newer ones like "Once." So my faith is slightly restored.

It's just that Tarja had a huge fanclub in her own right, especially amongst the female fans.

I think they should hook up with some of the women that have performed on Ayreon albums, they tended to be very emotive and high-quality.

True enough, but take In Flames as an example, with Mikael Stanne they were pretty good, but Anders Friden fits their music so much better.

Another example would be Linkin Park, Mark Wakefield was a great singer, but Chester Bennington is a lot better of a singer (not as good of a song writer though).

Wow, pretty scary.

Do you go to a smaller university?

Cain 10-22-2005 11:15 PM

What about Iron Maiden, for another example?
Wow, pretty scary.

Yeah, actually.

But still, hooooooooooooly crap!

I was just told a story that the bridge didn't have as high of barriers as it does now, because in the early '80s some guy in a wheelchair picked himself up and threw himself in his chair off the bridge. Kind of like when the Nazis threw that old guy in his wheelchair off the balcony, except it's a fucking long way down to the bottom of the ravine (that was me referencing The Pianist again).

How far down do you think?

That was an incredible movie, by the way.

Steerpike 10-22-2005 11:29 PM
What about Iron Maiden, for another example?
How about:

Faith No More
Creed/Alter Bridge
Wuthering Heights
Savatage
Helloween
Gamma Ray

At least 150 feet. I'm not talking Grand Canyon, but I'm saying that it takes a good amount of time for an object (such as an apple, if we're talking about Galileo here) to fall from the top of the bridge to the rocks below.

And yes, although we won't be able to finish the movie, I want to rent it ASAP so I can see what the hell happens.

Alex, how's it going with that one girl who you cooked for but then you found out she smokes? Are you still talking to her, or did you move on to another girl?
Creed/Alter Bridge
Good call on this one. Scott Stapp isn't very cool.

xizoesira 10-23-2005 12:19 AM

Not on and off, but 20 minutes straight?

Where is your brother?

xizoesira 10-23-2005 12:33 AM

Go wake his ass up!

Let us know how it goes, of course.

Oh, hey, is that long user title page still available?

I talk with her now and again, but it's pretty clear she knows I'm not interested anymore.

For now, I'm keeping my eye open.

xizoesira 10-23-2005 12:41 AM

Don't take the smokers, eh?

Steerpike 10-23-2005 12:48 AM
Don't take the smokers, eh?
Can't stand it. The smell nauseates me, the smoke irritates me instantly on contact, and the health ramifications scare me.

And though she's cute and all, I don't like her enough to want to put up with her if and when I ever hypothetically convinced her to quit and the withdrawal kicks in.

i am the robots 10-23-2005 01:00 AM

I enjoy cigarette smoke, but I hate the taste.

xizoesira 10-23-2005 01:12 AM

Try pipe tobacco, then.

It has alcohol in it.

magicbus 10-23-2005 02:40 PM

Today I bought Evil Dead and The Lost Boys. They were both on sale because of Halloween. Bram Stoker's Dracula was there too, but I want to see it before I buy it.

So does a regular martini.

Lord Abortion 10-23-2005 03:24 PM

I went shopping again :)

I got the new Football manager game, neverwinter nights and Nightwish- oceanborn and century child

/had no idea about Tarja at the time...coincidence, eh?

But it stands to reason that two drinks would have twice as much alcohol as one.

Poor logic++

That's pretty silly, I smoke but I hardly ever smoke around my girlfriend, except in pubs, where there is smoke anyway.

Neverwinter Nights is a good game, anyway. Except for that psychotic penguin.

i prefer vodka to gin. perhaps he does too.

Vodka + Martini = Vodka Martini

Like I said, poor logic.

Arrakakaka 10-23-2005 03:29 PM

This is about as confusing as the MEAP tests.
