I think this is a much better system though, and will certainly weed out users that don't deserve stars. It will also maybe encourage better threads and/or posts at least as well. (as in threads with more info, and posts with more substance to them and such)

The people I feel really sorry for are the poor noobs who have never known anything but rep. How can they adapt to society as a whole?

Originally, the only way to get stars really was mod rep, and I was one of the first to get them...it kinda makes me realize what a bad user I have become.

I used to abuse the old rep system a lot, but when Bobo told everyone to cut it out, I realized how bad it was getting. Now it's back to the way it should be, you can only get stars from a mod rep.

This change is really good though, I think. Especially with the requirements that are put into place (postcount, etc.) It's kind of a shock to not see the stars anymore, though. It's cool that only people deemed responsible by the mods, etc. will get stars. Mods should also have the power to take them away if a user gets corrupted by them.

EDIT: To Riva: this is true. I am guilty of both begging and giving away based on popularity rather than posts.

That sort of depends on whether or not I was ever considered a "sensible star user" in the first place, though. :-/

I remember that all 3 of the R&M mods repped me at some point or another. 'Tender even did it more than once. I also got a Zakath rep back when 12,000 was a godly ammount.


I abused from time to time, but not as badly as some. I had at least 5,000 worth of real rep in there.

14,000 = gone.

They should just make it so only mods can rep. Then stars would only go to the truly deserving.

It makes 'so whats your rep' threads pretty pointless, because most users will be at 0 forever, If I'm not mistaken. Rep dosn't mean anything anyway. Sure, 3 or 4 stars under your name, otherwise you get nothing. This truely is a wise move.

Actual users of the subforums such as R&M, Punk, Alt & Indie and such will probably get recognized...

And all the pit rats (as pointless users in the pit) won't be able to get stars, well at least for quite some time...unless they are friends some how with a starred user or something.

The only downside is that you can't keep people can't be kept away from a stupid thread by letting them know they will be neg repped. But, other than that, it is much better like this.

Agreed. It will simply be nice to gain recognition for good posts. I would enjoy that very much...it's a return to what rep is meant for. I agree with your estimation of rep, but my opinion is that rep BECAME meaningless, and with these changes, it will become more meaningFUL. As long as the mods don't have a weakness for suck-ups, that is.

Everyone is back at zero rep. Only mods can rep, therefore any people with stars will theoretically be the ones truly deemed to be helpful and responsible. Starred users are also the only ones that would have access to the rep system.

I had 6,000 but I got 3,000 from here. The whole system got messed up about two weeks after it started.

Yeah. This also might help weed out the lesser users, who are obviously inferior. You know, the ones that don't offer anything to the forums. I think this because if more attention is being paid to the content of posts, spam will be less of a problem, and it'll eventually make bad users obvious. Those who contribute will all be able to rep, and those who are inferior won't, and it will probably lead to them being added to many users ignore lists. Truely wise.

Well im never going to get stars back. Oh well. The mod thing is a pretty good idea, but witty witty NCP is no doubt going to abuse the privalage, as he does with all of his mod privalages.

I post mostly in this forum. Most of the other forums don't interest me very much, so I'm not going to start posting everywhere else just to try and get stars.
