*Has never listened to Nirvana. In fact, a mate was showing me his 'guitar skillz' and broke out with one of their songs (I later found out it's called "Come as you are" or something similar..), and I had no clue what he was playing.
I'm not really interested in Grunge either :p Edit: I'm not really after modern bands, just good bands who happen to be non-metal (And I figure, who better to ask then fellow Metallica fans \m/). |
I'm not a huge fan...but I have to admit I struggle and alot
of the time the gloomy music is very appealing |
The first band I ever listened to was Metallica, and I still listen to them today
Actually, it was probably something like Patsey Cline, but the first band I made the choice to listen to was Metallica. |
Therapy?
Death From Above 1979. |
Wow I havent posted in here in forever!
um................................I've been listening to To live is to die a lot lately, the middle part(5:12 - 7:25) is so melancholic its awesome. |
Hey, cheers! I've not heard of either those bands (Well I've seen their names floating on MX, but never read into them), care to explain a bit to me?
|
The earliest memory's I have of music is talking about that
guy that played with his teeth (Jimi) and driving down the road with dad listening to Lynyrd skynyrd...while wearing his sunglasses then I was about 8 and heard FWTBT Yo paul! what's up? do you still have that v? |

Umm I don't know too much about either of them, Superpeer really knows a lot about Therapy?, you could ask him. DFA1979 are a new band of only 2 band members, bass and drums but they still rock. The riffs the bassist gets out of his bass sound like guitar riffs at times. |
So chu what type of music are you looking for?
|
Anything really, that's non-metal. I've realised, my music collection is 98% metal, and most people I hang around with don't like metal as much as me (They like Metallica, but wouldn't even listen to half the stuff I do).
I really like Incubus and The Chilis, Mr. Bungle, and some classic rock, but I'm open to anything (Except, The Goo Goo Dolls, Joe must be high). |
What's wrong with being high?
Okay if I were you I would really get into classic rock. Pink Floyed skynyrd Led Zeppelin Jimi Hendrix Maybe even Classical music. search the forums for some mailing list so you can get some idea's |
Try 4ft fingers, they're a punk band that I quite like.
Same with NOFX if you've never heard them. |
What's wrong with being high?
Nothing's wrong with being high man! I'm high quite often.. Read this and be jealous that it's actually legal where I come from (Although, not as legal as say Amsterdam). I've heard all the stuff you said! I want something new :( Maybe it just doesn't exist. Edit: Pfft, 'course I've heard of NOFX, I am Aussie! (Are they Australian band? I think so :p) |
Maybe you should listen to a complete new genre
|
Nah, I prefer Rock/Metal, it's just I've listened to the same bands countless times, I know most of Metallica's guitar lines with whistles/humms (Well, I don't know much from ...AJFA onwards, but meh, they're not Metallica). Although, surprisingly I'm really not bored of Metallica, but I do know a lot of their music, I'm like a walking jukebox for Metallica :p
|
LoL Same here.
do you like nu metal? |
The earliest memory's I have of music is talking about that

I need to get some new pickups for it though. Maybe some duncans. Speaking of fuitar making, I'm probably gonna make an explorer in woods this year. Theres this kid in my class who knows a lot about guitar making so hopefully he can help me out. :thumb: Call Of K'tulu is obscenely awesome. |
Hey Chu, give Cacophony/jason becker a try.
|
Hey Chu, give Cacophony/jason becker a try.
I definately agree with Jason Becker, get Perpetual Burn. |
I keep hearing about this guy...what has he done?
|
I keep hearing about this guy...what has he done?
One of the most amazing guitarists ever, just listen to any of his solo work and cacophony stuff. Unfortunately he caught ALS which paralysed him but he continues to write music even though he can't talk, he communicates through his eyes. |
wtf, why this is page 969?
Shouldn't be like page 1000? |
wtf, why this is page 969?

Mine is still 25 and we are on page 1163.
|
Because there are now 30 posts per page.
I see. We have a lot of spamming to do  . So Hammett is up to some kind of promotion of Guitar World magazine, i think you can ask something about guitar playing and if your question is somehow original he would answer it. What would you(thread) ask him? |

lol he has some wicked wah, i do agree he overuses it but metallica without wah would be like....a guitar with no strings.
i would ask him if he's doing any solos on the new album. hey i was just thinking today (thats dangerous) but do you guys think metallica will still be around for like 20 more years...cuz like aerosmith and the stones are still around, and alot of old bands so i was thinking they just might make it to 60 lol. but what do you think? i don't know if they will be that stable to keep on for so long, but its possible. |
Man, I haven't posted in this thread for ages. I wonder where I stand on the posts chart.
Edit: Joe 1609 JillyBo 1184 JACKROXYOU 844 Chu 834 Happy 624 Squirrel 597 Huber 579 willis2441 547 Burdcheese 509 Six Foot Revolver 499 10th ain't bad. |

If they are around in 20 years they'll just be a novelty act. |
LoL Same here.
do you like nu metal?
Some, I love Slipknot's first release, whether you can call that nu-metal though, I can't stand any of their work afterwards though  Stupid band. I like Mudvayne a lot too.
Hey Chu, give Cacophony/jason becker a try.
Of course I have Perpetual Burn, Speed Metal Symphony, Dragon's Kiss, huge Jason Becker fan here :D
One of the most amazing guitarists ever, just listen to any of his solo work and cacophony stuff. Unfortunately he caught ALS which paralysed him but he continues to write music even though he can't talk, he communicates through his eyes.
It's sad really :upset: He was/still is so amazing, I watched a movie/documntary on him the other day, in the end, a full orchestra played one of his songs (Not sure if it was one of his newer songs or not though) at a ballat, it was bloody good. And ended with him playing a Yngwie song I believe, some sweep part and he goes "Nah, stuff it, it's too hard!". :D
wtf, why this is page 969? Shouldn't be like page 1000?
It's at like 1163 for me :D
hey i was just thinking today (thats dangerous) but do you guys think metallica will still be around for like 20 more years...cuz like aerosmith and the stones are still around, and alot of old bands so i was thinking they just might make it to 60 lol. but what do you think? i don't know if they will be that stable to keep on for so long, but its possible.
I doubt it, if they do continue, I really doubt they'll keep playing their more thrashier songs for much longer, surely they must take a lot out of them to play (I know they take a lot for me to play!), and I don't think they'll have the same stamina for that much longer. Maybe they'll just do a complete conversion to a Classic Rock band or something. |
