That movie was strange and disturbing, but pretty good. I don't generall like horror movies but that wasn't bad.

As for Venom, I have his backstory memorized.

John Jameson (the astronaut MJ was dating in the second movie) goes on the furthest manned expedition into space to explore an asteroid. He discovers a new mineral, but hidden inside the rock is the symbiotic life-form that will eventually become Venom. The alien attacks the astronauts and the shuttle crashes in New York City. Spider Man saves the astronauts, but the symbiote attaches itself to Spider Man unknowingly. This results in Spider Man getting a "black suit" which, in the comic books, he had for like 100 issues without it ever being explained (in the 1970s, BTW). The black suit gives him double the strength, replenishable webbing (in the comic book his webbing comes from machines, not glands), clothes-simulation ability (making a change of costume unneccesary) and a terrible attitude. He actually comes close to all-out murdering a few supervillians, and becomes a basically evil vigilante like the Punisher. Spider Man's name is tarnished, and eventually Dr. Connors helps him to realize that the suit is alive and is attempting to permanently bond with Spider Man as a host. When he realizes this, Spidey takes advantage of the suit's biggest weakness--vulnerability to loud sounds--and stands in front of a clanging church bell. The symbiote is horrifically injured and splits off from Spidey, causing him to collapse (but eventually recover) while the alien suit is almost mortally wounded and seething with hatred at Spider-Man's rejection--until Eddie Brock comes along.

I'm assuming Eddie will be Topher's character. Brock was a reporter for the Daily Bugle, Peter Parker's newspaper, and was catapulted to fame by claiming to hold interviews with a serial killer known as "Sin-Eater." When Spider Man caught Sin-Eater, Brock was exposed as a fraud because in reality, he forged the interviews. Brock was fired and nursed a hatred for Spider Man that was even more viral than that of the symbiote's, which made him a perfect next match for the alien. They joined to become Venom, a villian with every power Spider Man has and also with the ability to block his Spider sense, and so Venom is therefore the only villian Spider Man has never beaten through brute strength. Venom is technically more powerful than Spidey is, so he's only ever beaten him temporarily by using his ingenuity rather than brawn.

My question is: how are they going to include all that in a story that also contains the Sandman? My vote: Spidey gets the black costume and uses it to beat Sandman. Eddie Brock can be a subplot. Spidey almost kills Sandman and realizes his brutal power. The last sequence of the movie comes when Spidey rids himself of the costume, and the end of the movie is Eddie joining with the alien to become Venom, thus setting the stage for the battle royale in the final and fourth Spider Man movie.

Somehow, I doubt this'll happen. :( And I'm a huge dork for knowing all that, BTW. (I was a comic collector in fourth grade). Meh.

Woah, forgot that Parker gets the black costume/symbiot and uses that to beat Sandman. That would be really cool if they put that in the movie, but it seems like the the way the black costume/Sandman/Venom all interwine would make for a very lengthy movie. I'm afraid to see how they condense it. :(

I just hope we get some good scenes of Venom breaking stuff. Lots of stuff.

That really is my only wish for the film.

EDIT: Brock was on his way to commit suicide when he found the symbiote, wasn't he? If so, then I think I remember the story well enough too.

Well, in the show, they used the mineral as an object of the city's crime lord's desires. Sandman could be the person hired to get it, and then Spidey can fend him off as he's saving the astronauts. The symbiote, wanting its mineral state back, could provide Spidey with additional mental influence to getting that mineral back. Thus the primary villian could still be Sandman, while the events leading to Venom's creation could occupy the realm of subplot.

I'm terrified that everything won't be so neat though. I would hate it if Spidey doesn't get the black suit at all, because then the enormity of Venom's hatred (not to mention his Spider-Man-like powers) make no sense: the only reason Venom has every ability of Spider-Man's is because he joined with Spider Man first.

Yeah, if they try and cut any of that out, the movie will either completely suck or make no sense. They'll probably do what they always do and make up something that wasn't in the original just to fill the gap and shorten the story.

I watched the show religiously and owned a ton of comics.

I was buying them in the transitional period in 1996, though, when Marvel was going both creatively and financially bankrupt. :-/ The Spider Man comics back then were from the "clone" series, when the "Scarlet Spider," a "clone" of Spider Man, was revealed to be the "real" Peter Parker. So the Peter Parker that, ostensibly, had been Spider Man for like 200 issues of the comic moved to Portland with MJ and the "real" Peter Parker took the name Ben Reilly and became the new Spider Man. But then Marvel's finances went to sh[size=2]i[/size]t and they killed off Reilly and made Parker Spider Man again.

I was home sick from school one day; it was sometime around Halloween. As I had been laying down all day, I felt like getting up and moving around. So I got up and went to the door, just to take a peak to see if anything was going on outside. I happened to notice a guy walking down the sidewalk. He wasn't suspicious or anything, just walking normally. Then, two cop cars turned down mt street, sirens blazing, going about 90mph. My suspicions became aroused because at this moment the guy took off and ran up the grass (the lawn in front of my house has a large, steep, upward slope leading to the house) in an effort to get away. The cops pull up, get out, pull out their guns, and tackle the guy. It was around this time that I realized that I was having a good time. Anyway; they're kneeling on this guy's back putting him in cuffs when all sorts of people strt pulling up. Cop cars, undercover cops (the normal looking cars with sirens and guys with badges), and I think an ambulence. Suddenly my house was surrounded with law enforcers. Cops with dogs started walking around the neighborhood. They were searching our yard and the neighbor's for various things. Anyhoo, they hauled his ass to prison, left our house, and nothing exciting ever happened again.

It's the thing that means threads with more than fifteen or so posts are declared "hot" - the envelope picture to the left of the thread title on the forum page is red, instead of white. It's the only thing I hated about the new design that hasn't yet gone away, and it's gayer than Elton John's curtains.

I've not heard the new Cryptopsy yet (well apart from the sample tracks they posted, which sucked IMO), but I should be picking it up on MOnday or something.

I've not got the new Akercocke, but I heard a few tracks offf it at a gig last night, and it was absolutely aweosme. Especailly 'Seduced', that's definately my favorite Akercocke track now.

This is true, but I got a ton of my friends to stay too, so had I not been there to convince, we really wouldn't have gotten a lot of stuff finished. :shrug: Either way, the entire week was a blast. I got to be Mr. Monopoly in our class skit. It owned. :-D The Junior(our) skit got first place out of the four classes, and we took second overall.

Seniors always win, whether they deserve it or not. :rolleyes:
