Smashing Pumpkins are '90s, how is that Classic Rock?

Metallica was '83, almost.

:)

drugstore cowboy 07-17-2005 05:12 PM
i think if i real good new classsic revitalization band came out i think it would just be ridiculed as a wannabe and poser
I think it's time to introduce you folks to the Blue Van. They're one of the best new bands I've heard in a loooong time. Bass, drums, guitar, and a really awesome Hammond Organ. Their sound is really early sixties Kinks/Who rock, but it's not as if they just blatantly copy a sound.

http://www.thebluevan.dk/mediasite.htm

At the bottom of that page, there are three songs you can download fully.

Who cares they're not Classic Rock.

Daniel! 07-17-2005 05:24 PM

Why are Metallica not considered classic rock and Guns n' Roses are even though Guns n' Roses realesed thier first cd in 89 and Metallica has been around a ton longer. Is it the sound?

MalcolmYoungRock 07-17-2005 05:25 PM

Did anyone know that there was a Rust Never Sleeps DVD? I just got it for 10 dollars.

Also got "The Doors: 1968 Tour" DVD.

Edit:
Why are Metallica not considered classic rock and Guns n' Roses are even though Guns n' Roses realesed thier first cd in 89 and Metallica has been around a ton longer. Is it the sound?
Many of the CR regulars don't consider GnR as classic rock. They're hard rock-ish.

no, its the opinion of wheter or not they are still at or at their prime and started atleast 15 years ago or more.

Against Miik! 07-17-2005 05:30 PM

Since it is the opinion of this thread that Led Zeppelin are just common thieves, I would like to know if anyone knows if the actually wrote "Travelin Riverside Blues". Its a great song, and would bring back some of my faith in the mighty Zeppelin.

I don't consider G'n'R classic rock at all.

In Searching for the Sound Phil talks about his classical influences a lot.

I don't believe they wrote it, even though it is truly a brilliant song.

Well, Metallica's not really classic "rock" because they're a metal band.

Guns n'Roses really brought back the cheesy, over the top rock and roll stereotype we all came to know and love in the seventies and early eighties, so that's why some people think they're classic rock.

Walrus Gumboot 07-17-2005 05:38 PM

Well put, Cowboy

According to my local Classic Rock station they are. But I don't personally care for Guns n' Roses or Metallic anyways, I was just curious what you guys thought.

Since when were radio stations that are out to appeal to the masses the final authority on the matter? My CR station plays Nirvana, is Nirvana classic rock?

So naturally, we flame you :p

They proabably have some statistics that show that their ratings go up when they play Metallica or GNR

Daniel! 07-17-2005 05:49 PM

Uh...sorry? It was just a question I had been thinking about and I thought I would ask. So far the answer I have come up with is neither are classic rock and I'm stupid for asking.

^ Yeah, that's pretty bad. The worst my CR station does is new U2. And old U2, in fact.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 07-17-2005 05:55 PM

My radio station has never sunk that low.

Walrus Gumboot 07-17-2005 05:56 PM

It's always about money. You can thank Clear Channel for most of it though

Has anyone seen the movie High Fidelity? I'm going to rent it again to watch during my shift at the Mini Golf :D

Someday my co worker will take his portable dvd player home with him, and then I'll be screwed.

I didn't catch Pottermania this time around, but it is proably because I am a little dissapointed with life since coming back from Spain. I have read the first few chapters, it's pretty **** good so far

Every book seems to get darker. This one was great though.

To make this CR related, Badge by Cream is suddenly becoming one of my favorite songs ever.

Yea, we need to work on the math. Maybe Clapton, Bruce, and Baker are holy trinity. Harrison can be an angel or something.
