Did anyone ever figure out who did that fake vicarious song that was around two minutes long?

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-22-2006 11:23 PM

I heard Isis named a few times. No confirmations though

Anyway, I recently watched on Channel 4 and Kerrang the Download highlights and not ONCE did any of them show any footage of Tool's performance.

I was really pissed off about this, I mean, Tool were one of the three main headline acts, and only Metallica and Guns N' Roses were shown. Anyone care to fill me in with why there was no footage of Tool shown?
No Tool footage was shot during the performance. Hence why the big screens had the band's imagery on.

MTV2 have had a fair few interviews with the band though from both Download, and on Gonzo. Still a bit strange seeing MJK doing interviews so openly, compared to his Lateralus ones.

And good news from those interviews shows that Tool are looking at a winter full UK tour, as the record label will actually pay for the tour this time, unlike 2002, where the UK shows were paid for by the band, hence why so few

I see. Thanks.
Knifeboy, what Maynard says at the start of 46 & 2 is:

Digging through
My old numb shadow

That could be it.. Where'd you find this?

Does anyone else hear a popping noise in Tool- Stinkfist, in the first half of the song? I need to know if it's the cd or the way it's supposed to be.
Thanks

I love the lyrics to Rosetta Stoned.
I don't know why, but they entertain me quite a bit.

Arrrgh, I just got a bunch of Tool CD's, burned copies, and none of them were labled minus one, and some of the tracks were taken off, so I can't label them, that pisses me off and makes me not want to listen to them.
any of you guys want to help me with this?

I like the intro to Rosetta Stoned. Sounds awesome on headphones.

Vicarious is my favorite song on the album at the moment though, even know there is slight clipping in the intro.
Does Tool do this on purpose or is it just bad recording techniques?

There's clippings and white noise all throughout the 10,000 Days album. It's just errors in recording technique.

Ahh that sucks. Apparently Tool doesn't care. It kinda just adds to their sound.

Towlie 06-24-2006 10:06 AM

I think it would be cool if Tool did an acoustic song. I know that's not their style but I think it would be entertaining to see what they could come up with.

That could be funny. Imagine Maynard and Adam singing that Extreme ballad More than Words. hah

Darkness 06-24-2006 11:10 AM

Just got my floor ticket to see Tool on the 25th of August. :D :D

I've never been this happy. 80 bucks though, that's pretty steep, but oh well.

They did an acoustic version of "Maynard's dick" it was pretty cool.

That is excellent news. A longer set next time would be great.

I just think that if I was in a band like Tool I would listen to the songs vigorously. And if it sounds bad I would go back and either digitally fix it or record again. Thats all you can really do. The main reason it clips is because of compression. If every band turned it down a couple of db. there wouldn't be a problem. But since sell out pop bands make music as loud as possible, Tool has to try to catch up. And it isn't working out to well.

BTW I love Tool and I listen to it even if it sounds like crap.

Oh and I am listening to it in a lossless format, so my compression wouldn't be a problem. I don't think mp3gain would fix it either, since it is part of the music.

Alright!!! I'm going to see Tool on August 22nd. First time i'll see them live too. The reason i didn't see them before was because I didnt' really get into them untill late 2002. 9th row too, tried so hard to get floor tickets, but **** it will be nice.

Yeah, I gotcha'. Most people won't notice the white noise and clippings thankfully. The RHCP album Californication suffers from the same flaw.

I don't think it is really a flaw in that album's case..I mean, it was recorded in mono right? :-/ Puzzling.

Futuro 06-25-2006 08:11 PM

I like how they said they had a problem with the click track in the studio. Than Danny said he didn't use a click on the album when Modern Drummer interviewed him.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2006 10:47 PM

What kind of click track problem? Like they couldn't delete it from the mastered track, or what do you mean?

Man, that would blow to no end. :-/

It is a flaw, but I don't consider it that big of a deal. Personally, I don't like the overall production of the album anyway.

So I got a myspace band invite today, and while usually the bands arn't worth my time, this one was kind of interesting...

You'll understand what I mean if you listen to one of their songs.

I enjoyed it. Reminds me of Tool.

And the drummer used octobans in a uncliche way! That must mean something :p

Shadius 06-26-2006 08:00 PM

Not bad, they like quite a few of my favourite bands.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-26-2006 10:26 PM

Wow, I'm a major fan of nearly all of their influences.

Too bad they didn't even spell Mastodon correctly. What fags.
