How does it compare to Deloused?
Well, I don't own Deloused, so I can't really say. But from other people I've heard that this is more progressive. But it depends on who you ask when it comes down if it's better or not. But I like it. It's our chance of having a Pink Floyd.

Modestbob had the best description. They are Pink Floyd's, Led Zeppelin's and Santana's offfspring. It's the best way to describe them.

RobNY 03-28-2005 07:50 PM

What exactly do you mean by progressive music? (I mean, what's the definition...)

Oh and, any ideas you have are going to have to wait a while. I'm building up my classic rock collection first. And then I can get this stuff. Of course, it'll be cheaper by then, hopefully. But these will be helpful when I go looking for more modern music.

ATM 03-28-2005 07:51 PM

I'm going to have to check it out, I like prog.

B0nz0 03-28-2005 07:51 PM

Most definately Santana on Frances the Mute, like half of it is in spanish or spanish themed. But that's fits in really well, and it's a great album :thumb:

jpj 03-28-2005 08:07 PM

I love Deloused, but I haven't had a chance to hear Frances. I heard a couple of Omar's solo songs and there's definitely a Santana influence in those.

Whatever the definition for progresive rock is.

They're good. They really left me amazed. I was a bit afraid of buying their stuff. But it was only 10 bucks, so I was please, since it means that if I didn't like them, I wouldn't have spent too much money on them.

But then... Wow. It was really amazing. I was very impressed. They really are pushing rock to new boundaries. Very well constructed songs, and there isn't a single quiet time on the album. It just continuing thrills. They're like punk-meets Floyd-meets Santana... I don't know. It's not easy to explain. They're just good.
So you guys feel that a musical revolution is coming soon? I sure hope so.
Well I think with all the shitty music out there today were due for one. A lot depends on how the war in Iraq goes, history has shown that after or during times of war music has gone through revolution.

I don't think of Green Day as political. I see them more as a band just trying to be cool and hate Bush. This has nothing to do with poltics its just the way history has come out. One exemple is the revolution that came in music after we got sick of conformity after World War Two, another came in Veitnam.

Jam2Me 03-28-2005 08:31 PM

There's lots of good modern music, just gotta find it, depending on your tastes.

As for a revolution, no I don't think there will be one soon because I believe one has happened, rap and hip hop is no longer listened to by everyone -- emo has taken over. Emo is the new big thing in the industry. I always thought Weezer and bands like that were emo, but its changed a bit and gotten gayer because Weezer is a cool band unlike the current emo bands and their disciples.

The Jazz Age came about after WWI, even though America's involvement in that was less than WWII or Vietnam.

well after wwii u must remember came the bebop craze.

Progressive Music has a tendency towards "Art-Rock", long songs, emphasis on virtuosity and complexity, and lots of solos, as well as often being "high concept" in nature or difficult to digest at first. I think this post sums things up pretty well.

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7215819&postcount=105

Notable Progressive Rock bands:
Yes
Rush
Dream Theater
King Crimson
Emerson, Lake, and Palmer (often classified as such)
Alan Parsons Project (often classified as such)
Pink Floyd (often classified as such)

The Mars Volta would most likely fall under "Progressive", categorically. There albums are conceptual in nature, and they are known for sprawling, artistic, emotionally laden songs with numerous solos.

IAJP 03-29-2005 09:35 AM
Well, I've just listened to the Mars Volta, and have found a new faith in modern rock.
There are two bands that have pretty much gave me faith for music in the future.
Radiohead and Queens Of The Stoneage.

Other than that, there is a lot of diversity around but you just have to look for a lot of it.

Im in sort of a debate here...and without the annoyance of making a new thread...Deep Purple, Mark Knopfler, and Lynyrd Skynyrd are all coming to my hometown relatively soon, but cant decide which to go to. My issues with all of them is for Purple, Blackmores gone (obviously a huge disapointment), Lynyrd Skynyrds Lead guitarist, Bassist, and Singer all died, and i just want to know if Knopfler performs only his material or his & Dire Straits.

any suggestions?

They're bigtime Anti-Bushm and labeling there album as "American Idiot"

As for Vietnam, lots of people were anti-Vietnam and still made good stuff. Neil Young, CCR, Lennon, and so much more :\

Walrus Gumboot 03-29-2005 03:43 PM

Neil Young's Greendale is a brilliant anti-war album that has often been overlooked since it's release in 2003

jpj 03-29-2005 05:02 PM

I'm gonna try to go see Deep Purple.

blue3 03-29-2005 06:08 PM
