I pretty much cried when I saw Bloc Party close the Reading festival last year with The Pioneers. That song is so powerful at the end, the lyrics always have me. Then when they finished, everyone was cheering for about 5-10 minutes, and no-one was leaving the tent. They were all crying on stage, and thanking us for the best day of their lives.

They went off momentarily and came out to play my favourite song of theirs, called The Answer. I was the happiest man alive when they played that.
I wanna see Bloc Party. There such a standout band among my music collection (which mainly consists of Progressive and Death Metal).
lol they are between Buried The Buried And Me and Bolt Thrower.
I mean Im not the biggest Tool fan, actually i really haven't listened to that much of their stuff, but i hav listened 2 a perfect circle and they are so awesome. I love how they can range their music from hardcore songs like 'counting bodies like sheep' to the acapella 'fiddle and the drum' and their version of John Lennons 'Imagine'. They really are artists and want so badly to get my hands on a tool album or the like so i can appreciate it. I also like how Tool hav that image that they never tour and release cds once every six years or so. It truly is remarkable. Plz excuse my naivety if i hav misquoted any info
You've only heard eMOTIVE, right?

Thats what I've gathered from said post.

If you thought that was good, listen to their other body of work. You'll think it's a revelation.

WAK (while killing) 06-15-2006 09:59 PM

Best APC album was Thirteenth Step.

Othersides 06-15-2006 10:06 PM

That's debatable.

Kage 06-15-2006 10:15 PM
That's debatable.
I don't think I've ever seen a better response.

Othersides 06-15-2006 10:21 PM

It was brilliant wasn't it :p

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-15-2006 10:26 PM

I've only heard 13th Step. It gets better every time I listen to it, though.

Kage 06-15-2006 10:39 PM

For me it's the opposite. I was blown away the first time, and I've slowly lost interest in it. These days I actually prefer Mer de Noms.

I totally agree, Thirteenth Step is one of my favourite albums ever, I just wish they would have waited until Tool's tour was over to make a proper sequel instead of Emotive.

My theory is that Emotive was designed as a way for Maynard to get out of APC. APC were only contracted for 3 albums with their record label (cant remember which one). The interviews I have read suggest that Maynard's foremost priority is Tool (which is understandable) and that APC is kind of a hinderance to his work with the band. Emotive was recorded very quickly, while they were on tour, and it really shows in the quality of the songs (there are a few decent ones, imagine, lets have a war and when the levee breaks, but the rest are rather poor). Looks like Billy will continue as a solo artist, which shouldnt be too bad as he was the major creative force in APC anyway.

Duncster 06-16-2006 03:01 PM

You guys heard about the whole wings for marie+ virginti tres = 10 000 days thing? Put Virginti tres right after wings for marie and play that at the same time as 10 000 days and its supposed to make a new song. Didn't seem to work too great for me but some parts synch up very eerily

Shadius 06-16-2006 03:21 PM

I thought for ages that Mer De Noms was better, but it's not.

Orestes, 3 Libras and The Hollow are three of my favourite APC songs ever, along with Rose and Judith which are good songs, but Thirteenth Step has more consistancy overall with only Vanishing being pretty boring, along with the filler tracks Lullaby and Crimes, the rest is really good.

The only song with the same quality on eMotive was Passive. I quite liked a few other songs on it too.. but not to the same level I liked songs on their other albums. And theres actually for the first time unlistenable trash, like Gimme Gimme Gimme.

Futuro 06-16-2006 03:25 PM

I like the fusion jazz version of when the levee breaks. But not as a cover.

Nosferatu 06-16-2006 05:33 PM

Mer de Noms >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thirteenth Step

Seems really weird that after Tool playing 4 shows in the UK that this thread isnt full of content UK'ers and jealous US posters. Instead I find the age old APC debate. Im dissapointed :(

I didn't find it to be anything mindblowing...Therefore I'll just call it coincidence.

Believe me, I've been trying to contain my rage at you UKers being able to see Opeth Dredg Tool and In Flames all at the same festival, while the best we get is Radiohead + Beck
Mer de Noms >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thirteenth Step
If there were ever truer words spoken, strike me down. Mer de Noms kicks the everloving crap out of 13th Step.

Syncratic 06-16-2006 11:22 PM

/strikes above poster down.

I think Thirteenth Step was better than Mer de Noms. Pet, The Noose, Blue, The Package, The Outsider.....can't go wrong.

randomthought9 06-17-2006 12:54 AM

Mer de Noms is okay, but 13th step is amazing.

omgwtfboogie 06-17-2006 01:11 AM

I go back and forth between the two. The atmosphere and tone of Mer de Noms seems ethereal to me, just beautiful. But Thirteenth Step has more emotion, and "The Noose" is just...wow.

One Groovin Clown 06-17-2006 02:08 AM

the first apc album i got into was 13th step and it still remains my favourite. mer de noms is top notch, but 13th step hits me on such a deeper level. Either or, i love them both.

ghettoeddo 06-17-2006 02:14 AM

all i remember from APC isthat weird song..."coutning bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums."
i remember the music video was creepy as hell.

That's "pet" good song

One Groovin Clown 06-18-2006 12:43 AM

actually it's the remix of pet, and it's called "Counting Bodies like Sheep to the Rythym of the War Drums".

SmashingPumpkin 06-18-2006 02:53 AM
Best APC album was Thirteenth Step.
Wholeheartedly agree. I believe the album stays strong throughout, while Mer de Noms really loses its direction after 3 Libras (with the exceptions of Thinking of You and Brena).

Thirteenth Step just has this really cool vibe and I personally love it.

borisdablade 06-18-2006 03:26 AM
actually it's the remix of pet, and it's called "Counting Bodies like Sheep to the Rythym of the War Drums".
I'm not a fan of what they did with that remix, it came out sounding like a really bad NIN song (probably because danny lohner was so involved with it)

aperfectool94 06-18-2006 09:44 AM

i cant understand why people find "counting bodies like sheep......." film clip creepy. Its just a truthful political animation.

Shadius 06-18-2006 09:47 AM

And it's shit. Pet is such an amazing song, though.
