I'd have to say Johnson is more talented simply because my dad who has been playing guitar for 30 years has an extremely hard time playing songs out of a Robert Johnson song book I got him. But, my cousin who has been playing for 4 years can play CCR songs with no problem.
Thank you Jpj. :thumb: |
That is generaly true but not the point and it also shows how ignorant you are towards that time period.
How can you compare simple riffs to complex sliding? Go play any Johnson song then try any CCR song and I'll promise that you will agree.
I've played Johnson songs, and the sliding is not that complex. And for one, I'm not saying every CCR song is complex. But I have seen John Fogerty live and his solos were very nicely done. Unfortunately, I have not seen R.J. live, though I down own a single disc and a double disc of his.
That is generaly true but not the point and it also shows how ignorant you are towards that time period.
No, it shows no ignorance to any time period. Be realilistic. Guitar has been a very popular instrument for decades, and constantly progresses. |
Also in the song book none of the songs are in standard tuning, which is one of the reasone no one could figure out how to play his songs.

That does not make him a good guitar player, other than diversity, maybe. It is all my opinion of course. |

It is all my opinion of course.
I know it doesn't. I just thought it was interesting that not one of his songs was in standard tuning. |
Yeah...he's a blues guitarist.
Same here. They're not my favourite band at all...in fact I've never really seen what the big deal is with them, as I think a lot of their stuff is really repetitive, and doesn't go far beyond catchy in terms of compliments I can pay it, but from what I've seen of them they still do a great live show. A friend of mine who doesn't really like them but goes to loads of shows saw them in 2002 or sometime, and said they were one of the best bands he's ever seen live.
They were good. I saw them live at sars stock. Not my favourite band I've seen live but they were good. AC/DC were also good, although I never listen to them on my own they put on an absolutely awesome live show. |
As For Johnson vs Fogerty. I voted Johnson.
|
Johnson as far as skill goes, but Fogarty wrote some damn catchy tunes.
|
lets just say that ERIC johnson beats them both, eh?
|
Lets NOT.
A little slow here today. : / |
I just got an issue of Guitar One Magizine, and they said that Appitite For Destruction was the best Classic Rock album of all time. Just more proof that MX's polls are much better then magazine "100 best" lists.

Oh yea, my friend told me about that. He's like "Dude, Appetite for Destruction is #1 on Classic Rock albums!!!" I replied "Dude, your magazine sucks." |

I think that it's really impossible, let alone completely pointless to say which album is the best
|
lets just say that ERIC johnson beats them both, eh?
Well, Ali DeMeola beats them all. |
im a guitarworld man myself...
i personally think that pink floyd- the wall is the greatest classic rock album.
It's got flaws, some slow tracks. I don't really care for the song "Vera" myself. I don't really know what I consider the best. Edit: But, I got Rust Never Sleeps today :D Listened to the whole thing already. Kind of short, isn't it? |
lets just say that ERIC johnson beats them both, eh?
Skill-wise without a doubt. I voted for him in the poll. |
Skill-wise without a doubt. I voted for him in the poll.
Once again, skillwise Ali DeMeola reallyu demolishes them all. He's a machine. |
Once again, skillwise Ali DeMeola reallyu demolishes them all.
He's a machine.
I was just saying out of E. Johnson, Johnson, and Fogerty that E. Johnson was best skillwise. I'm not overly familiar with Al DiMeola anyway. |
im a guitarworld man myself...
i personally think that pink floyd- the wall is the greatest classic rock album.
I think it would have been, if Waters didn't take over. I mean he should have wrote the lyrics, and played bass, but not taken over like he did. Had the members (Wright and Mason) put up more I would agree. I think the White Album is the best classic rock album of all time, just for the record. |
Appetite for Destruction...was that GnR? I remember the name, but not the band.
Abbey Road should eb the greatest album period. |
The Wall is all good n great, but its defiently not the best classic rock album of all time, its got too many dull, boring tracks on there that just guide you through the story or whatever, IMO. DSOTM maybe....but im not sure what would be the greatest in my opnion, abbey road maybe, LZ physical Graffiti would get my pick though.
|
Appetite for Destruction...was that GnR? I remember the name, but not the band.
Abbey Road should eb the greatest album period.
I would agree with Abbey Road if Helter Skelter, Revoloution 1, Everyboy's Got Somthing To Hide Except For Me & My Monkey, and Sexy Sadie were on it. But if that were true then everybody would have to bow down and worship the Abbey Road as their new god, so I guess this is just natures way of balancing things out. |
I think Revolver should be known as the greatest classic rock album.
Why? It doesn't really matter. |
I think Revolver should be known as the greatest classic rock album.

I'm not saying it to be different, and it's not even my favourite album... and is not my favourite Beatles album either (my favourite being the White Album). I said it because I honestly believe so... as a Classic Rock album. |

I said it because I honestly believe so... as a Classic Rock album.
Oh no don't get me wrong I wasn't trying to say you did it just to be different, I just thought it was cool because it was different. Yeah the White Album isn't my favorite album either (that goes to Randy Rhoads Tribute album, just because it was my first rock cd) I just feel what is in it makes it the best because of its influence on other music. |

Not really. Its just about garunteed that Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Pink Floyd, etc... will make up the top 10 of just about any poll that takes place in the R&M forum. |
top 100s are stupid anyways.
<-- has voted and is being hypocritical. |
