It's not whoring if all you want is recognition for your talents. Especially if what you're putting up is a composition, I wouldn't refer to that as whoring. After all, if you put up something you wrote and recorded, you run the same risk as everyone else that people will hate it. Since you have no assurance that people will lavish you with praise, it is a humble request for appreciation rather than a "look at how good I am!" fest. Especially here: it's hard to impress me, personally speaking, and I'm sure it's even harder to impress some of the other people on the site. Therefore, what you're doing is certainly not whoring. :)
Thanks then. I appreciate it, seriously.
Theory can be incredibly helpful in assisting you to express yourself. I think it gets way too much of a bad rap, and ironically never from people that actually use it. I would say better to have it and choose not to use it, rather than to choose to be ignorant to its benefits because of some "soloing stinks" asshat and suck as a result.
I know, I know. I'm trying to take some theory, its very boring, but its very important too.

Ramsey 03-04-2005 01:31 AM
/Maybe won't post cover for Lucas. Nothing impressive, unless you just want to hear it for whatever's sake.
This was also made today, fresh out of the oven. Its alot shorter though, and basically the same though.
WOW. I'll be a happy guitarist when I can play like that, I'm serious man. Hey, if you're ever bored try learning the second solo in CoB - Sixpounder. If I here someone else play that it will give me great motivation to learn it myself.

That was better I think. Not a big fan of the drums, but the playing stayed cooler and more in key, and the tone was amazing. I've never been able to get something like that out of my POD. I suffer from knob-envy, I think: everyone knows how to turn theirs to get a sweet sound, but I never can, or when I do, I forget. :upset:

Well, thanks, it was a decent cover, but there's nothing technical about the song at all. Despite me not being great, that song doesn't show the skills I have.

Yeah I thought this was better. And thank you about the tone.

I can post the tone i'm using, if you like?

Heres one more track I recorded the other day:

You are better than you think. You think i'm good? I'M GARBAGE. THIS fucker can't even stay in time, and you think your bad? Come on man. I thought it OWNED. Just post it.

Riva 03-04-2005 01:38 AM

Wow! I was just cleaning some cabinets around the house, and I saw my mum's old CD collection. Looking through it, I saw tons of great albums, like Beach Boys, Eagles, Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, JJ Cale, Chuck Berry and Tom Waits. I'm ripping them to my comp as I type.

Cain 03-04-2005 01:39 AM

All right, while we're doing this, I think I'll post the songs I wrote for my college app CD. The production is bad on the electric one, and there are minor errors on the acoustic one, but the songs are cool. I'll post better versions someday. I'm just curious though: can I have some instruction on how to use yousendit?

Don't post anymore...you're totally degrading my sense of guitar self-image :) . Good stuff. Is there anything in particular you did you learn to play like that or was it just practice in general?

It was really just practice. I never discovered shred until about a year and a half ago. I had been playing for about 4 years by then. This is my 5 year.

I can't right now. I'm at work and the song is on my home comp. I can do it later or tomorrow.
Opinions
It's ok...impressive playing as always, but the key modulation is a bit obvious. You would benefit from theory so much I think, you just need good books. Have you heard of the Guitar Grimoire? Those books are how I think I actually GOT theory for the first time.

EDIT: Ok, I know it's late, but hang around guys. I would like you to hear my songs.

Ripper, do you want the tone i'm using? Since you have a POD, you should be able to upload it, right? (if you have Guitar Port)

Yes. I've usually been able to find them in my local Borders. I know nothing about cyberfret. One site that's also given me positive results is looknohands.com/chordhouse/.

EDIT: Ok, the playing on the electric song on my college app CD is painful. It's ok speed and dexterity-wise, but the song was an attempt to write a song based on one note and modulate through the keys that way. At certain points I forget what I'm playing and go on a bad note spree. The acoustic stuff may be too light for your tastes, Ramsey, but I hope you'll enjoy it all the same. I hope to make MP3s from my cassettes eventually too, because those are much more recent and much better, IMO.

Queen-Greatest Hits
The Beatles-Magical Mystery Tour
Supertramp-Breakfast in America
Rolling Stones-Greatest Hits
April Wine-Greatest Hits
i even found a Styx album haha..

For solos, or any type of lead, use DELAY, preferably Digital or Stereo delay.

It's not working. I typed in my e-mail and selected the file and the next page won't load.

BTW, I can't get it to an MP3: It shows as an mpeg audio file. Is that cool? Everyone can play mpegs, right?

MPEG is cool for me. And with YouSendIt it takes awhile for the page to load because it has to save the file to their server.

Riva 03-04-2005 02:01 AM

You see, typically, if its a big file, it takes ages.
