Well I can do the middle solo in MoP myself, I'm having trouble with the Verse and Pre-Chorus actually :p

Also, just keeping the speed of it, my arm tires after the first minute :p

yeah when i first picked up mop i spazzed bc its all downpicking and i didn't have the endurance yet. but it gets simple - its a pretty straightforward song to play.

Here's what you do, practce See Through Dreams by Death, and then attempt Master Of Puppets.

what happened to lightningmetal666? :(

Apocalyptic Raids 10-11-2005 03:02 AM

I think he may have been banned.

W.M.A 10-11-2005 04:59 AM

Slapping Penguin who I met through MX  is our Lead Guitarist, I am Rhythm, and my younger brother (He's 17) is the Drummer, we don't have a Bassist as of yet, but hopefully :D

just wondering if u used guitar to play the bass at the start where its the dominant instrument. i tried playing the song in a two piece guitar drum line up (dont recomend it tho i spose the white stripes pull it off) and it sounded terrible. upload it, i dont think ne1 minds a bad recording, most of us r learning newho.

Maybe he got bored of MX.

any idea why :(

He posted in the Megadeth thread about an hour ago. I think he's busy with guitar.

O, those are the easiest... but I know what you mean. I'm learning Everlong by Foo Fighters and I can't do it because the rhythm is so off any metal I've done with a similar intro.

Whose W.M.A??? Another account Chu???
what happened to lightningmetal666?
No idea, he hasn't been here in awhile.

I can, and have done the bass intro on guitar before, but like you said, it does sound horrible.

I know Slapping Penguin HAS found a bassist, it's just a matter of me getting better at guitar before he will join us though :upset:

I also know a girl who's a decent bassist and is interested in joining a band...
Whose W.M.A??? Another account Chu???
 He tried to quote me?! :D
I only have this one account
what happened to lightningmetal666?
I think he found Megadeth, and realised what a better band they are :D

Edit: So on that note, someone give me a detailed description on how to properly Palm Mute :upset:

Britton 10-11-2005 05:39 PM

I use the heel of my palm right were the strings come off the bridge. I has a LP copy
so it sounds really good. You don't want to mute to hard. There are several different
styles. I prefer the "Chunky" sounding mutes.

I used to think you needed a whammy to play lead. but then I realized the best
metal lead player (in my opinion) is Zakk Wylde and he doesn't have one. Then again
he is ZW so...to the point My next guitar...do you all think I should get a floating
bridge?

Chu 10-11-2005 06:13 PM

I have a floating bridge, the stupid thing ****s up unless I reset it every now and again (And that takes effort! :p)

I too prefer the more "Chunkier" sounding Palm Mute, but like I can either mute it too much, or not enough, I just suck :p

metalmilitia101 10-11-2005 08:41 PM

i like how honest you are...nowadays guitarists get so prideful and they can't play like....the sanitarium verse riff and they still brag about how good they are...it disgusts me.

angusmaster 10-11-2005 08:49 PM

ive got a question,is a gibson sector x a pretty good guitar,i saw james use once or twice before, and i think its gonna be my next guitar.

i do you know what you mean, even though that's a fairly simple riff
ive got a question,is a gibson sector x a pretty good guitar,i saw james use once or twice before, and i think its gonna be my next guitar.
never played it but the gibson's I've played haven't been any less than amazing.

metalmilitia101 10-11-2005 09:45 PM

heh fairly simple??? i could teach my 2 year old daughter that riff if she had bigger hands :-) and yes gibson is a wonderful brand

Jev 10-12-2005 09:06 AM

What annoys me is the band in the year below us telling us we're **** for covering FWTBT ect. and they're covering Back in Black.

Chu 10-12-2005 11:42 AM

So, great news (Well for me at least :D), it's now 4:00am, I have been playing guitar pretty much constant (There was a 20 minute break at about 3:00am, to ask MX some questions) since ~8:30pm.
I finally hit the MoP riff, to me it sounds perfect I even listened to my iPod and played it, and as far as I could tell, I nailed it.

Also, I spent the majority of the night learning a few solos, the first Fade To Black solo I can do completely (Maybe not full speed, I haven't checked it, and the last note is apparantly a 17 on the E, I just end with a 15 on the B, it sounds fine to me :shrugs: ), so I'm pretty excited :D
Not going to bed anytime soon at least!

Edit: Could be misleading, I haven't got *all* of Master of Puppets, just up to the first verse so far, and I haven't actually learnt much of it yet, just been trying to get the speed down so far, so shouldn't take me too long, hopefully.

metalhead_matt 10-12-2005 12:35 PM

the intro solo in fade to black? or the middle one after the first chorus?

Joe 10-12-2005 12:44 PM

So, does this mean we're going to be covering Enter Sandman to be as good as them ?

Awesome! I had PSATs today so I was in bed early. Yes, it ends on an A note there in the fade to black intro solo. I really like the live middle solo better than the album, so I play it like it would sound live instead of album-like. Just keep working at those, you'll get it

POST SOMETHING?!?!?!

Chu 10-12-2005 12:45 PM

Intro solo <3 :D
Best sounding solo in Metal imo, and it's fairly simple.

Edit: Oh, I will definately post something now :D
Slapping Penguin's coming around Saturday (It's Thursday morning here, so do the math :p), and we'll probably get a recording (My brother might have plans, I haven't asked if he's free yet :p).

If not, I guess I'll post one of these For Whom The Bell Tolls :D

Kinda gave up doing guitar for a while, my fingers started to split

Britton 10-12-2005 01:11 PM

I'm so happy for you Chu! I remember when I was learning all of that stuff
and I felt the exact same way. Guitar is the love of my life (other then this really awsome
girl!) I spend alotta my day playing guitar. I too had my PSAT's this week so I havn't
played alot. but it's all good. yea gibson is a great brand! but I'm getting a Ibenaz
or a Dean ML.

Wel I'll check in later

Easily

Sweet! Finally!

We as a thread still haven't recorded anything...

 I know what that's like. My fingers still hurt from days ago.

Chu 10-12-2005 01:26 PM

Your sweet Lead tone + Slapping Penguin's chunky plam muted rhythm would be sweet. Can you do the Battery solos by any chance?

Joe 10-12-2005 01:27 PM

Haven't tried it really, but I want to.

Chu 10-12-2005 01:28 PM

Do it!
I will lend my vocals if need be :D

metalmilitia101 10-12-2005 01:36 PM

man i feel like a slacker. i'm getting an outfit started right now, and if any of you live near the dallas fort worth texas area you will be hearing about us when we get going cuz we have lovely personal connections with all the clubs around here. music is good times aint it?

and i agree, fade to black is the best solo...EVER. thats just imo, but yeah its got the perfect tone and everything. :amaze:
