For all of you looking for good PM. Even though they really aren't PM, id recommend Symphony X, their kinda PM/Mostly prog but definately worth the listen.

gillygan 02-12-2006 07:19 PM

Look at the first age of the thread.

Thanks for the recommendations a few pages back :)

dUSK 02-12-2006 09:03 PM

A few months ago I saw Australian War Metal mentioned somewhere. Anyone know what this is? And if so, can you recommend me some bands to check out?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Txus 02-12-2006 09:12 PM
Hey Txus, I'll check those bands out anyways, but are any of them like Elements Part 1 cheesy ? Because that kind of cheesiness doesnt apeal to me much.
Yeah, Rata Blanca and Warcry are very cheesy man, but the rest is all good IMO.

Stormrider 02-12-2006 09:19 PM
Yeah, Rata Blanca and Warcry are very cheesy man, but the rest is all good IMO.
Oh ok then. Just didnt want to have every of those band you mentioned by to be the extreme cheese fest.

It's like, I think, a bit of a clash of thrash/death/black metal, which for some reason has ended up being identified as Australian and Canadian War Metal. I'm pretty sure Deströyer 666 (Australian) and Axis of Advance (Canadian) are counted amongst the bands identified so, so you could check them out. Deströyer 666 in particular are quite enjoyable.

Don't take any of what I said as gospel, though. Ideally, you should ask Terminal Spirit.

Ahh ok. Thanks. I already listen to Deströyer 666, and was content with labelling them as Thrash. I'll give Axis of Advance a listen tomorrow some time.

Who's Terminal Spirit?

Bartender 02-13-2006 09:17 AM

An '02 member, who pretty much lived in and around the death heads thread. He was in Canada, and was really knowledgeable, so pretty much anything to do with Canadian metal (and a lot outside of Canada) he could tell you about. He got himself a life though and doesn't come here any more.

dUSK 02-13-2006 09:19 AM

Yeah, I just searched the members list and he hasn't logged on for almost a year to the date.

Stoic 02-13-2006 02:41 PM
So I am looking for some more power metal that isn't really cheesy.

So far the stuff I have liked the most is either really close to speed metal, like Jag Panzer, or is really epic without being extremely cheesy like Blind Guardian.

I can't stand some of the newer Power Metal stuff that is an absolute cheese-fest.

Suggestions?
Pete 02-15-2006 04:38 PM

Recommend me some techy/mathy metal, please.

It can be either just really technical death, like Necrophagist, or the more grindy, mathy stuff like Ion Dissonance. As long as it blows me away on an instrumental level :)

Arucard 02-15-2006 04:39 PM

ADFD by Arsis is technical as hell, although its actually melodic death. As far as tech death goes, check out some Beneath The Massacre, that is very brutal and very technical.

Heres the Official Reccomendations thread; it's the best place to ask.

Pete 02-15-2006 04:46 PM

Sorry about that.

Arucard 02-15-2006 04:47 PM

But yah dude, Beneath The Massacre. GO!

That's this thread..
I'm so confused.

Beneath the Massacre are sick though, I missed them this weekend

Pete 02-15-2006 04:53 PM

Arucard - I'm downloading "Evidence of Inequity" right now, it was the only release by them I could find! I'm anticipating it'll be good though :)

Shadows 02-15-2006 04:53 PM

Can anyone recommend me some insanely technical/wanking yet extremely fun sounding power metal? Think Dragonforce. I could really use something in that vein.

I merged the two threads. And if you double post, then delete one (rather than editing an apology into it).

Sorry, Pete.

Necrophagist like: Beneath the Massacre, Domination Through Impurity, Gorod, Severed Savior, Gorgasm, Visceral Bleeding

Ion Dissonance like: Psy0pus, Dillinger Escape Plan, Cephalic Carnage

I assume you know of Rhapsody. They're not even that technical though. But they have some cool riffs, and they're "fun sounding".

Thanks! I know all those Ion Dissonance likes, but the Necrophagist likes will be checked out :)

Concerto Moon

Neo-Classical + Power Metal

Not quite as fast as Dragonforce, but fun nonetheless.

Latest Angra (get Temple of Hate song) and early Helloween (get Ride the Sky song) come to my mind although I wouldnt exactly describe them as wankery. Still technical enough I think.
Neo-Classical + Power Metal
Requiem (Fin) might work although I doubt you'll find anything by them.
Thanks!
You're welcome :)

Zero Hour, maybe. Not insanely technical, not so fast either, but it's fun to play once you work out the multitudes of time sigs and riffs.

Also, (maybe there isn't) are there any prog or power bands that have good music but are suitable for lactose intolerant people (ie. NOT TOO CHEESY). eg I find Ayreon - Human Equation lyrics extremely cheesy, but Zero Hour - Towers Of Avarice is fine.

For the more grindy stuff check out !T.O.O.H! (I hope I spelled that right). Also try Martyr and Sleep Terror.

No, I wasnt asking for Neo-Classical + PM, I was saying that's what the band I recommended to him plays.

Arucard 02-15-2006 05:22 PM

Crowpath are pretty good for the more technical side of American Metal too.

Yes I know so I mentioned another neo classical power band :p

Yes! Into the Moat could work as well.

Great bands. Especially !TOOH! couldnt have been more insane.

Isn't that Norther before they changed their name to Norther?

Thanks for the power metal suggestions, getting Zero Hour and Angra now. :)

I dont think so...

Stoic, was it you that disliked Disillusion but had their album?

They are pretty technical.

Could someone recommend me some lesser known melodeath/Gothenburg style metal? I've heard most of the big ones, and I wanna find some new bands.
