Piper through Meddle>Animals

Yield 01-20-2007 11:40 AM
I've said it before and I'll say it again; WYWH > Animals.
I like WYWH, but it's not as great as I used to think it was. Have a Cigar is okay, SOYCD is classic, I like Welcome to the Machine, and I feel the same with the title track as I do for Have a Cigar. I like Animals more though because it has more that I like a lot.
And I don't particularly like the post-Waters out put, but on Pulse the songs just seem to work alot better, and I can actually enjoy them alot more than the album tracks.
Yeah, I agree with this.

Surf 01-20-2007 11:59 AM

the title track is my favourite floyd song, so I hold it in pretty high regard. Animals is probably better as a singluar entity, i.e. all the songs are very similar and flow well, but I think WYWH just has better songs. SOYCD the title track and have a cigar are among some of their best work. Welcome to the machine is not really as good. But I'd still rate the album higher than Animals, if only because its more diverse: It covers a range of emotions as opposed to Animals' just seemingly just being very angry.

Both are great though.

Yield 01-20-2007 01:24 PM

I still like all of the songs, they just don't do it for me as much as they used to.

symmetrix 01-20-2007 02:50 PM

any colour you like is crazy good

Amit 01-20-2007 03:05 PM

is it just me or does song give off crazy mad dark side of the moon vibes:

i need to listen to WYWH, i've decided. i've had Shine on.... I-V stuck in my head for 2 days now, ever since i was walking through town on thursday night and some shop was playing it so loud i could still hear the solo at the other end of the street. :)
it's a cool hi-fi shop.

randomthought9 01-20-2007 03:27 PM

Haha nice. Good idea, I think I'll listen to WYWH too.

BurningSky 01-20-2007 03:55 PM

I'd say Floyd was great from Piper to Atom, peaked with Meddle and Darkside, started losing thunder with WYWH, and fizzled out after The Wall...

Meddle is my favorite, Darkside is, from a compositional standpoint, the best...

rippa32 01-20-2007 06:10 PM
Well, the band took a major turn when they lost Syd also, but I still consider every album made under the Pink Floyd name to be a Pink Floyd album. :p
I don't think the change from Syd to Gilmour was nearly as big as from when Waters left.

Neoteric 01-20-2007 06:29 PM

i actually think i'm getting into dark side of the moon

money is a great song

Apocalyptic Raids 01-20-2007 07:14 PM

I'm kinda sick of Money. Breathe is my favourite off Dark Side, I think.

-The Frank 01-20-2007 07:17 PM

So, roger waters is comming in february, is he worth a see?
Also what is his setlist like?

Neoteric 01-20-2007 07:18 PM
I'm kinda sick of Money. Breathe is my favourite off Dark Side, I think.
well i've just started listening to them so i've not got sick of it yet

robo2448 01-20-2007 07:21 PM

He was doing all of Dark Side of the Moon before. I didn't see him, but supposedly he was doing the album in its entirety.

I haven't listened to Floyd in so long. Like months and months. It'll just make it so much sweeter when I start to listen to them obsessively again.

-The Frank 01-20-2007 07:25 PM

Cool, i might have to see him then if he is doing the whole album.

Yield 01-20-2007 07:29 PM
well i've just started listening to them so i've not got sick of it yet
That's good. Personally my favorite is a tie between Us and Them and Time

Apocalyptic Raids 01-20-2007 07:29 PM
well i've just started listening to them so i've not got sick of it yet
Yeah, Money was easily my most listened to Floyd track when I first started listening to them.
Yeah, Money was easily my most listened to Floyd track when I first started listening to them.
I couldn't stop listening to it when I first got Dark Side.
That's good. Personally my favorite is a tie between Us and Them and Time
Basically that post, id have to say Us And Them is better though.

Zebra 01-20-2007 09:59 PM

Brain Damage is the best song off of DSOTM.

Riva 01-20-2007 11:10 PM

Brain Damage and Eclipse together are the best songs from Dark Side Of The Moon.

Lunch 01-20-2007 11:15 PM

Us and Them is easily the best from Dark Side.

telemore 01-20-2007 11:25 PM

i haven't listened to DSOTM in like a year, srsly.

it just doesn't appeal to me. i prefer their weirder stuff. AHM is one of my faves. :D

Lunch 01-20-2007 11:26 PM

I had a recent rediscovery with Dark Side after a long time without listening to it.

bump

standard 01-21-2007 12:02 AM

So I just got done watching "Children of Men" .. Good movie, but they have a TERRIBLE and blatant Pink Floyd reference. I dig it, and everyone who likes Floyd should watch it just for the reference haha.

Riva 01-21-2007 12:05 AM

Why is that? Summarise it for me since I probably won't see it?

PsychoTronn 01-21-2007 12:10 AM

on the run and any colour you like are my fav off dark side, really cool keyboard on any colour you like

A scene of the movie occurs at the powerplant where the Animals cover photo was taken, and you can see a pig balloon in the background.

Riva 01-21-2007 12:16 AM

Oh I see. Cool.

Amit, I can see what you mean. The voices at the start, the theme of the song, the synths... It's a pretty cool song also.

Jim 01-21-2007 02:00 AM
A scene of the movie occurs at the powerplant where the Animals cover photo was taken, and you can see a pig balloon in the background.
 Sounds really cheesy.

But seriously, if I made a movie I'd probably do something like that...

Jim 01-21-2007 02:16 AM

BTW Amit, I'm getting the same vibes too. The synth at the start quotes On the Run, and the main riff is Breathe for sure. Is it actually an official sample, because it sounds exactly the same.

I've heard the song before too (was it a big hit?) and it's fantastic. I love Robbie Williams :(

Damn right, the sax solo is just sex. Although Great Gig In The Sky would be close behind, with the rest being very close behind that :p

 I saw that. It was funny as hell, I couldn't pay attention to what they were talking about. I think they were playing In The Court of King Crimson when he was walking in, although that's not Pink Floyd.

Hehe, maybe the director/producer/art designer is an idiot and thought that's the cover of In The Court Of The Crimson King.

rippa32 01-21-2007 05:18 PM

No way, no-one mistakes that cover. It's more well known than King Crimson themselves.

Riva 01-21-2007 05:33 PM

Yeah, he's probably just a major prog rock fan.
