Yes, I practice my scales, and I know a little bit of theory. I still play plenty of dissonant chords and guitar lines. By what you say, people who study heavily in theory automatically cannot make dissonant sounds because their brain is trained to create melodic sounds. Which is outright wrong.

StandingStill 09-09-2005 06:38 PM

Thats not what I'm saying! Its just makes it harder to break from that for some people.

deadohiosky9 09-09-2005 09:01 PM

Are you doing the vocals in that senior project Dfelon?

StandingStill 09-10-2005 01:53 AM
I don't know if you've listened to my senior project songs or not (www.purevolume.com/greer) but I mostly made those up out of moments that incited an emotion in me rather than some theoretical attempt at musical perfection. My theory training was only the helpful hand in the mix, which also included all the music I've listened to, all the guitar I've learned, the extra curricular influences (friends, family, sluts, etc.), and lastly my personality, which comprised 50% of that mofo.

Rugby is insane jesus christ. But ya, I'll bring a more cunning retort tomorrow.
Those songs are musically pretty good, not so sure about the vocals. The way you described creating those songs is the way people should really approach music. I think I have been twisted by having to play in someblues band in college where this dude just played the most generic crap I've ever heard. I am the only member of my real band to know any real theory and I play bass.

I didn't know Americans played rugby, I played out on the wing for my college at one stage. You play league or union?

StandingStill 09-10-2005 09:25 AM

hmmm. When you get tackled, does the defence have to stop and get 10 yards away from the ball?

whiteminority 09-10-2005 09:48 AM
Uhhh. I play college. Division 2. Whatever that means.

The vocals are a mix of me and my friend, but mostly my friend. We did the vocals in 2 hours. That's it. That explains how they are weaker.
league and union are two different styles of playing. im not sure but i think rugby league is the more common version.

whiteminority 09-10-2005 05:24 PM

rugby is awesome. our high school has a team and they went to state, the girls team went to fucking nationals, they are really good.

yapper1200 09-10-2005 08:10 PM

why r u talking about rugby in a music forum?

whiteminority 09-10-2005 08:14 PM

this is the community thread, its open to whatever basically but its usually about music. we talk about rugby because it kicks ass.

also spell your words out none of that r and u crap that is not allowed here.

yapper1200 09-10-2005 08:20 PM

Fine.
do you know the band lost prophets
if you do what genre are they? punk or something else?

whiteminority 09-10-2005 08:24 PM

yes I know who the lost prophets are, they started off as nu metal and they are now pop-music. do not ever come into this thread and talk about lost prophets again they are nowhere near the parameters of what this forum covers.

Arrakakaka 09-10-2005 08:26 PM

MSI is not in here and i suggest you not take into punk because they take pride in being mean in there. why dont you try the pop-punk forum and look for the power pop.

whiteminority 09-10-2005 08:32 PM

i have a question for you yapper1200. have you heard of any of the emo bands listed on page 1?

yapper1200 09-10-2005 08:33 PM

ok so in here do we like talk about As I Lay Dying or what about Most Precious Blood?

whiteminority 09-10-2005 08:34 PM

neither in this particular thread but you can try MPB in the hardcore/metalcore community thread. and you will get a better response to AILD in R&M.

This thread has become harsh. Where's the love? It'll become harder for kids to get into emo than for a fat chick to lose her virginity.

Guatamala is a Moss Icon song.

And if you check out Julia, don't download the Lp because it's ****. Grab the 7"s. And it isn't 'mad hard' to find.
