Adam Jones is GOD 09-03-2004 06:19 PM

Not the blue screen of death I hope, noit had that on this PC yet.

Sterophonics, there's a band I haven't listened to much recently, mainly as I dont have any albums, but I respect them, and they have a good few songs that have unfortunately been played to death by the bands who play the pub gigs in my town.

Untitled 09-03-2004 06:24 PM

I have all 4 albums, there very good, i wana cover one, but not one many people have heard, like of the first album and not released, but the rest of my band hates them.

Its not blue screen i had, just the internet explorer couldnt load the page, i just restored it to 2 days ago and alls good now.

Edit: one songs, not one album.

Adam Jones is GOD 09-03-2004 06:29 PM

Yeah, something like Bartender and the Thief would be great to play, but likewise, I must be the only phonics appreciator in my circle of musician friends.

Untitled 09-03-2004 06:34 PM

Theres one girl i know who plays guitar and loves the phonics, shes only just started on guitar though. Id like to play bartender and the thief, or a thousand trees, its a case of winning over my other band members though.

Adam Jones is GOD 09-03-2004 06:39 PM

The way I usually get a compromise is to play a song they want to do, no matter how much I hate it, then negotiate to play something they dont really like. I did that with an old group of musician friends (im not in a band, I just jam), I played a NOFX song (really simple, v.boring) and they then allowed me to play mogwai, even though they hate slower music
You play bass again right? I think I remebr you saying you did

Untitled 09-03-2004 06:52 PM

Yea i do, my guitarest listens to seriously bad music, we was at his house jamming and he put this song on called "she killed her" or somthing and its just this girls talking in a inocent vioce saying "i killed her, i crushed her head, i made her dead" and it realy disturbed me. He couldnt understand that we couldnt define what type of song we were righting untill after we'd made it either. He just kept saying "so is this a punk song" so i reply "we dont know untill weve wrote it" and he goes on and says "well we need to know what were righting." Hes annoying somtimes.

Adam Jones is GOD 09-03-2004 06:56 PM

Yeah, those type of people dont help the writing process at all. Its strange that someone into such weird sub genre type of songs would be like that. A song take its own life when you begin writing it, you cant force it to be something else. I never go out to try and create any type of genre, usually the end result is a piece that sounds completely different from music I would listen to, but still is pleasing to my ears.

(im betting that he's a guitarist though? We're the contol freaks)

Untitled 09-03-2004 07:05 PM

Yea he is, i said that lol, but i know that itll end up indie/punkish anyway once the lyrics are down, if they leave that to me, i just joke about with them. The bastard who is a control freack though has more gear then the rest of us, hes about to buy a 2nd guitar, has pedals, and proberly the best guitar out of us, but is the worst player, and his excuses, ive been play same lenth of time as him, both started cristmas day, to me he says "bass is easier" and to adam(lead guitarest) "youve been playing a year longer. Even though my leads self tuaght and the other getinf lessons off someone he knows.

Adam Jones is GOD 09-03-2004 07:10 PM

THis guy sounds just like a guitarist I used to play with, he couldn't play to save his life, yet he was taught by the same teacher who taught me plus a few guys from bands tried to teach him, but he just strummed everything and got so much fret buzz it was unreal. The worst part was he couldn't keep a rythym, so it threw off even the drummer with the beat. And he had a warlock guitar, yet wanted everything to sound punk.
There has to be peole like this around though, it makes the rest of us appreciate having some kind of talent

Untitled 09-03-2004 07:16 PM

Ha yea, this guy goes of looks for guitars, hes geting a vintage Sg copy, which might not be bad but he could just save his wages a couple week later and get an Epi, i told him he could upgrade his pickups on his first guitar and hes like "why would i wanna do that". Some one i know once asked would i rather play a guitar that looked crap but had a great tone, and great playablity over one with good looks, i said yea, and my guitarest said no, hes a madman. My lead has to right both guitars too, he leaves me with bass, and we might of finaly found a drummer at long last.

Adam Jones is GOD 09-03-2004 07:21 PM

Drummers are a rare breed around here, bassist are plentiful though.
Thats a good question that, about the looks/tone, it would tel the good players from the bad. If his first guitar is like mine (squire showmaster) then dont bother with upgrading, but its a cheaper option if its a solid guitar, im looking to getting one that is easy to upgrade.
If your lead is writing both guitars, then that should help the situationa bit, now all you need to do is gradually begin turning down the other guitarist amp, and you should be sorted.

Just realised something....

Adam Jones is GOD 09-03-2004 07:22 PM

4000th post on this thread! Sorry, couldn't resist it

Untitled 09-03-2004 07:27 PM

Ha ha, or i could do what my uncle once did, put a tape on insted of the amp, but that was the bassest was pissed. His first guitar is a black yammy, in the argos or index catolouges, its not bad, not the best, better then my squier.

With my drummer, one of my mates told me to ask her b/f, but ive only met him a few times, she dosnt think that maters though, so i told my lead and he said we may aswell ask. But out of every one i know about 10-11 people play guitar, and 2 play bass.

Adam Jones is GOD 09-03-2004 07:32 PM

I just realised my guitar is in the Argos catalogue now :upset: Glad im getting a new one.

The tape would be a nice ego boost, my friend filmed me and a fw friends jamming, then he dubbed over some Metallica song, which went well with the beat, looked great.
And out of those 1 in 10-11, I bet only a few can play well, and I bet even fewer write their own stuff well too.

Im knackered for this evening, so im off now

Untitled 09-03-2004 07:39 PM

Well one guy i know is realy good, and the other of the better ones is my lead, the rest just do it as a hobby realy, nothing serious, about 4 of them play serious and 3 of them well and right there own stuff.

What guitar have you got, what you getting? I have a squire J, soon to buy a fender P

Untitled 09-03-2004 07:39 PM

Oh i didnt see you said you was off.

Bye.
