Amused to Death. It's amazing. But if you're not a fan of Roger's style, you may not like it. It's easily his best solo album, though.
|
Since we're talking about solo stuff...
I bought David Gilmour's "On An Island" the other day, and it's awesome. Are his other solo albums any good? |
Not quite. They're a little more low key. On an Island was quite epic in comparison.
|
I just saw Australian Pink Floyd at the Greek Theatre. Awesome show.
|
They're the best tribute band apparently. I'll see them one day :(
What they play? |
Full Dark Side of the Moon and a bunch of assorted singles, I can't remember. I just remember that their version of Comfortably Numb and Set The Controls... were superb.

His self-titled solo-album was pretty much on the same level as On an Island for me, if not a bit better. Haven't heard About Face yet, but I'm pretty sure I don't really need to either. I should check out Roger's and Rick's solo-work. Especially Rick's seems interesting. :) |
Hrmm, I just 'rediscovered' my love for the Floyd a few days ago. :)
Atom Heart Mother is on the block for tonite. :):) |

has anyone heard nick mason's solo work? i think he recorded one album with someone, but its pretty much ignored by everyone. it was probably rubbish to be fair...
|
Heh, if you guys think About Face is horrible, you arent going to like this album he worked on. The single from it, Lie for a lie, is...... very 80s. Here is a link to the video.

I have Gilmour's solo debut. It's okay. Pretty good I guess.
I also have Wet Dream by Wright which is very good. |
A Saucerful of Secrets is one of my favorites right now. I'm listening to the title track and it is wonderful. Jugband Blues is also another great song from the album. I prefer some of Pink Floyd's early stuff to albums like Wish You Were Here.
|
nonetheless, wish you were here is so good :]
i JUST got around to learning the title track...about time i say. |
I wish more people knew about Richard Wright solo, I love it. He's pretty damn talented away from Roger's thumb.

Wet Dream is an awesome album. And it's right in that period between Animals and the Wall when Rick was supposedly going through that creative block. I think the album proves that Wright still had some pretty creative ideas but was too intimidated by Roger. Because there were certainly some creative ideas that came out on the solo album. |
Especially Pink's Song, I love that.

Wow, I've never even heard of this album. I'm going to listen to it right away.
Especially Pink's Song, I love that.
The title alone sounds good. |
Listen to Broken China too, Night Of A Thousand Furry Toys is great.
|
Yeah I don't have Broken China yet. I think I saw it on the same blog I downloaded Wet Dream from though, so I'll look and see if I can download it.
|
It's too bad that both of Rick's solo albums are out of print. :-(
|
Rick Wright is the man. Something about him just makes him cool.
I suppose I should download some more solo stuff by the band. Anyone listen to Syd's solo stuff? I've got both of his albums on my computer, and they're pretty good. Even after he went crazy, the man could still write some decent tunes. |

It's the beard. And yea, Syd's solo albums are quality, definitely worth having. I prefer the Madcap Laughs. |
I don't really like Syd's s/t album. Unless you get a deal, I wouldn't bother buying it.
|
I do prefer Madcap Laughs over his self titled, but I still thought it was pretty good. Its definitely more polished than his first.
|
I don't have s/t but the Madcap Laughs is great. I also have a rare compilation thing of his that has a bunch of great solo stuff.
|
Madcaps is great but I think it could've been so much better; worthy of a Pink Floyd album. It's problem is: it's more of a collection of song skeletons stripped bare of production, the other members of the Floyd, and most of all, attention; it most resembles a demo than an actual flowing album. I mean what could the Floyd've done with a song like "Octopus" (with Richard's keyboards in there and all) or even "Golden Hair"? It would've been extremely interesting to see how the results would've turned out with the rest of the members embellishing the songs with drums, bass...etc. Too bad.. :(
|
Ya, definitely. That would have made a very good album, I'm sure.
|
I wish more people knew about Richard Wright solo, I love it. He's pretty damn talented away from Roger's thumb.
I finally found Broken China last week after spending months tracking it down. I've only given it one listen and my first thoughts are that it's a little drawn out. :(
There were definitely some good individual tracks though. I'll have to give it a few more go's. |
I was watching an interview on youtube of Waters and he was saying that Nick Mason didn't do anything in the band writing-wise. Is this true? Didn't he write his own section of Ummagumma?
