I only though it was Geddy when I first glanced at it, but after that I could tell it was John.

March 31, got my tix today.

slowhand 03-26-2005 04:01 PM

So...

Beck, Clapton or Page: Who's the better of the British top 3 guitar heroes?

Badmoon 03-26-2005 04:03 PM

Technically, Beck.

slowhand 03-26-2005 04:09 PM

All around...?

jpj 03-26-2005 04:11 PM

How am I supposed to choose? :(

slowhand 03-26-2005 04:18 PM

Well, you like some things more than other things... Why should it be any different for a guitarist?

jpj 03-26-2005 04:22 PM
Well, you like some things more than other things... Why should it be any different for a guitarist?
But I don't know which I like more. I'll say Clapton.

I don't really like their version of that song ... Out of Focus is better.

magicbus 03-26-2005 04:31 PM

I like Clapton the best. He's the most blues influenced in my opinion, and has variation with his different bands. Don't get me wrong, I love Jeff Beck too, but Beck's music is usually on the funkier, sometimes futuristic (maybe?) side. That stuff is cool too, but I'm a blues guy.

As for Page, I like how he rocks out, but he's a bit sloppy, and not the most creative guy when it comes to solos. (he rules at writing riffs).

jpj 03-26-2005 04:31 PM
I don't really like their version of that song ... Out of Focus is better.
I like Rush's version better.

Drumma 03-26-2005 04:36 PM

I dont really like all the new music, i stick to all the classics e.g acdc, ramones, clash, led zep, motorhead etc.

magicbus 03-26-2005 04:38 PM

Who's diggin the drum fills on Sunshine of Your Love, especially during chorus and solo?

I am.

slowhand 03-26-2005 04:40 PM

That's the best part of the song (and I'm a guitarist).

I always think of Sunshine of Your Love as a drummer's song.
I dont really like all the new music, i stick to all the classics e.g acdc, ramones, clash, led zep, motorhead etc.
Motorhead...??

Glitterati 03-26-2005 04:42 PM

I haven't heard much of Beck, and I'm not a huge fan of Clapton, so Page.

Badmoon 03-26-2005 04:49 PM
All around...?
What are the other categories?

slowhand 03-26-2005 04:50 PM
What are the other categories?
Originality, versatility, you know, things along those lines.

Badmoon 03-26-2005 04:54 PM

Orginiality - Page...

Versatility - Beck
Originality - Beck
Composition - Clapton
Technique - Beck

slowhand 03-26-2005 05:22 PM

Yeah, Page, originality...

So, I guess that all around you like Beck more?

PinkFreud 03-26-2005 05:31 PM

beck is the better guitarist all around. he only lacks in composition like badmoon said. technically, his playing is more complex and smoother, miles more versatile than the other two, and a hell of a lot more original. beck wins! beck wins!

Badmoon 03-26-2005 06:03 PM
Yeah, Beck, originality...

So, I guess that all around you like Beck more?
Not really, I was just trying to give the best and most correct answer.

slowhand 03-26-2005 06:18 PM

Damn, you know what, I typed something wrong... It was suppose to be "Yeah, Page, originality..." Not Beck. Wasn't thinking. I have to fix that...

Anyways, though I admit that Beck is a better player than Clapton and Page, I preffer Clapton much more. Sure, Beck took lead guitar to a whole new level, but I don't get that feeling in me when I hear Beck. I like Clapton. It seems he hasn't really wasted a single note.

Distant Echoes 03-26-2005 06:35 PM

Clapton>Page>Beck

I personally like page's material and songs better, but it doesnt take a genius to know clapton is really the god of guitar. Like slowhand said - he doesnt really waste a note. I learned one of his solos, and it was amazing how smoothly he moved around the fretboard and kept the notes flowed so well. I got chronicles of clapton lately, great CD.

slowhand 03-26-2005 06:40 PM

I guess you can sum it up in three words:

Clapton . . . Is . . . God

<fanboy alert>

Jam2Me 03-26-2005 07:00 PM

How can you say such a thing when tommorow is Easter!

I love lamp. I love lamp. I love Clapton.

RobNY 03-26-2005 07:27 PM

Hrm, I'd appreciate some of your opinions on what to buy next.

Personally, I'd like to buy music from Cream, Hendrix and SRV. And well, I'm having trouble what to buy for Hendrix.

Mostly because, I've heard a bunch of Hendrix's songs from different albums, and I'd want to buy his three albums, ideally, but I can't do it all at once. Heh. I mean, Are you Experienced and Electric Ladyland would be my first two choices, but, little wing is my absolute favorite song of his and I don't have a hard copy of it (chalk up bonus points for a masterpiece like castles made of sand for axis, of course, just because I'm not familiar with most of the songs on that album doesn't mean they aren't good).

The solution would seem to be to get one of those compilation, "greatest hits" type albums (the "experience hendrix: best of..." would seem to be the best in that department), but that seems almost sacrilegious.

Anyway, I'd love to hear your opinion on it. Which should I start out on?

slowhand 03-26-2005 07:47 PM

I have Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix and I found it to be a very good introductory album to Hendrix work. But I can't really help you out, Hendrix is not my area of expertice. And I really don't know for sure who in here could help you.

Now, with Cream, that's another story. Love Cream. So, if you have any question, I can help.
