Synchronization

Do you remember that Tool did weird stuff like use the fibonacci sequence on the syllables of the verses in Lateralus? This is even crazier and cooler, and you have to follow a couple of steps to get it.

The mystery of the filler "Vigniti tres" and the two "Wing" parts being a bit similar to each other now make sense, as well as the cover of the album. If you play Wings pt1+Vigniti Tres at the same time as Wings pt 2, you realize that the 2 songs are equal in length to Wings pt2 ... That means that they are meant to be synchronized! The frickin' band synchronized 3 songs!!!! The cover of the album has two faces looking sideways and one big face looking towards you. MAybe the two faces are the 2 smaller songs and the bigger face is the long song ... combined result in one big head.

Just check it out ... the combination is incredibly well done. I am breathless!!! The sync with vigniti tres with the second half of wings pt2 is probably the coolest part, but the first half is really cool too with different riffs in syncs, talk and response of voices, complicated drumming, etc.

The problem is to do it right. The method I use is very hard. I put my headphones in first. I put my Tool disc on the computer, and use windows media player on just track 4 (wings pt2), then transform tracks 3 and 11 into mp3 files in your disc (downloading it may not work since the tracks may vary in length, unless you use something like torrent, stick with mp3 transformation since it's legal though). Ok, now that you have the mp3s ... click play on those two files using winamp.

Now, here comes the tricky part. Press play on the winamp file then pause it. Now, move the winamp windows in a way so that it's very close to the play button of window media player. Now get the time bar of winamp to the far left (the beginning of the wings pt1) and press play, immediately pressing play on the windows media player one. There will be like a 1/10 second difference and is not very noticeable at all.

Maybe there's another way ... if you have two CD drives, maybe you could burn your 10,000 days CD twice (one with wings pt2 and one with the other two songs) play the two at the same time and you won't have to do any tricky stuff.[/QUOTE]

The way I did it was that I put Wings Pt 1 and Viginti Tres in the winamp playlist and Wings Pt 2 in Windows Media Player. Since I can control winamp though my keyboard regardless of what the active window is I just pressed play in WMP at the same time as I hit play from my keyboard for WinAmp.

Worked the first time I did it, perfectly synched; the seconds counted exactly the same.

The synchronization is interesting, but only in parts. From the point Wings Pt 1 starts up until right before the heavy part near the end it works well with Wings Pt 2. It no so much as syncs up as it runs well with it.

What I mean by this is that since Pt 1 is more of an ambient song, the lyrics are barely disinguishable providing a low meditative melody, the bass keeps a steady low hum through out, and the drums provide more ambient crashes and soft pounds. All those elements pretty much get lost with the mix with Pt 2. What stands out is the guitar from Pt 1, it fits well with the bass lines from Pt 2, as they are doing similar things.

Right when it reaches the heavy part from Pt 1 though the "sync" isn't all that great. It's not horribly unfitting with Pt 2, but doesn't really do anything for it.

Somewhere closely after Viginti Tres starts. It gets lost in the mix with Pt. 2. Though this track it mostly a low rumble with ocasional grunts and effects, but they practically go unnoticed until the last 2 minutes of Pt 2 when it seems to fill in some parts of the music.

I honestly doubt any actual intentional (I'm actually listening to the track Intension as I write this sentence, omg a sync with real life!) sync on the part of the band. Pt 1 + Viginti Tres and Pt 2 just run well with one another for the most part. That isn't that hard though, Pt 1 and 2 are in the same key, and Viginti Tres is noise.

It's an interesting listen though, and I recommend it just for the sake of enjoying the music in a different way.

I did find out something interesting. I played Pt 1 and Viginti Tres at the same time and found that the noises from VT sync with the song. I think that on almost every ocasion there was a pause or a change in the music the noise from VT would sync up and play for the exact time that pause or change took place. One example is when Adam changes the arpeggio he's playing.

Anyways, awesome album, cheers guys :chug: .

Yeah, we figured that out like weeks ago. It's still really cool though.

randomthought9 05-26-2006 11:32 AM

It has to be intentional, I mean they match up exactly, like down to the second.

UpperDecker 05-26-2006 12:25 PM

How does the chorus to Right In Two really go? I've heard "cutting my own, "cutting my love, and "cutting along right in two". Anyone know?

mudvayne420 05-26-2006 03:29 PM

Cut it all right in two.

Syncratic 05-26-2006 04:29 PM

It's "Gotta divide it all right in two."

That's what I hear.

Oh, wait, that's towards the end.

I dunno then. I'm listening to '10,000 Days (Wings Pt.2)' now.
