Very nice Alex ... I really enjoyed "Third Song from Aug..." It'll be very interesting to see what you do at school.

Also - what kind of reaction did you get?

masada 08-21-2006 06:05 PM

Haha, unfortunately yes. She was actually holding her own record. No Beefheart love.

ATM 08-21-2006 07:41 PM

What if her music actually sounded like Beefheart?

masada 08-21-2006 07:43 PM

Glad you liked the music, all of you (or at least found it "interesting"). That third song we played has the most variation, probably, but I'm partial to "Howard Hughes Should Stop Being Such a ****in' Nutcase," for one reason or another.

There wasn't a very large crowd for our set. We played first on a four-band bill. It's just as well, because the whole set was improvised after playing together only 4 times (twice in performance, twice in practice).

And yes, Matt is wearing my backpack in the video. He wore a bear suit to the show that all the audio is from.

Yeah, when I posted I hadn't heard that one yet. "Howard Hughes..." is also great, I would say it contains some of the best moments you've presented.

I saw the video, this may be a somewhat silly question, but have you ever tried facing eachother during the performance? To increase the interplay between the two instruments instead of the possibility of simply playing over one another.

Zappa 08-21-2006 08:42 PM

For the last show we set up facing each other at opposite sides of the front of the stage. Matt also played his electronic drumset.

The video is from an open mic, which has a house drumset that is set in place fro the whole thing.

Happymeal 08-21-2006 10:22 PM

I really liked those songs on your page Alex. And I laughed when that mohawk dude came out of nowhere in your video.

Broken Arrow 08-21-2006 10:25 PM

The video didnt work that well on my computer for some reason. The songs were cool though.

Did it change any of the dynamics while you played?

Zappa 08-21-2006 11:04 PM
Did it change any of the dynamics while you played?
Well, for one thing, that break in "Third Song" would have been impossible without my head-nod keeping time before we came back in. But in general, it was just good to be able to have eye contact, along with using our ears.
