You shouldn't go by rumors, you should always use your best judgement especially when it comes to an art where humans express themselves as an individual. Everyone has their own opinoins/tastes really, and that aura of ones preference contaminating someone elses views about a topc far from trivial can be forcing something upon someone or thing that deserves to shine in it's own shape or form.

yeah I know I'm not 12yo

if I had to pick between listening to music that my friends recommend to me and music that they specifically tell me they hate I think I'm going to listen to the music that they think is good. Especially since he understands music on a deeper level.

There is lots of music I want to listen to so I have to listen to some people about what is good and what isn't. Everyone does that; don't act as if you listen to everything that comes out ever and that's how you make your opinion on it

I know I wasn't implying that you were mentally 12 or anywhere near that mentality age range, I was simply typing something that looked good and sounded even better once I read it to myself. It makes sense though, really. I never let anyone cloud my mind or taint my collective unconscious about what I should or shouldn't be listening to. I post my tastes on last.fm thread and if everyone on the planet laughs at what I listen to, it makes me laugh becuase they don't know my taste, nor would that ever, as long as I'm alive, alter the songs I listen to. I don't need to impress anyone other than my soul. It is what it is, and I love it.

i mean jazz fusion is theoretically pretty cool it's just it often kinda resembles the amorphous mid tempo funk that inexperienced and apprehensive players settle into when they're jamming together for the first time

yeah, and after mahavishnu it wasn't rock jazz indian fusion anymore it was fusion fusion from tonnes of different styles almost, it wasnt fusion as people would call it the 'f-word'
