this is actually pretty solid. your band i'm assuming?
Yup... well, my old band. From when this thread was originally started... like... 5 years ago... haha. That was our last album we recorded, and I'm so proud of it. I wrote 95% of it all... lyrics/music/production, and I played all guitars. The drummer and I were 18 when we recorded, and our bass player and singer were both 19. It depresses the **** out of me to think of where we could have gone... and how amazing we were to get if we kept going. I wrote most of that stuff when I was 17 or so... The Black Gate is actually from our first album, and I remember when I first wrote the song. It was a Thanksgiving, must've been junior year, so... 2002. I went up to my computer/studio room, and the verse riff just fell out of me. It was a tradition of mine that on holidays, when I was allowed to drink, I would write a song. Or at least do everything I could to try to. But yeah... so I wrote that song when i was 16. but everything else on that album came from my senior year in high school. I think its ****ing amazing ****. I can't believe the maturity in the song writing, especially Unholy Ceremonies. Theres a few things that need re-working, mainly slowing down the part before the "we pray on sacred altars..." line in Call of the Ghoul. Its supposed to be kind of a copy of Immortal Rites, lol. but yeah... for those who haven't listened, or think this is just bullshit... no way. This was done in Max Trax Studios in Albany, NY, where Skinless's debut was done, among SO many others. The songwriting is great, I think. Essentially, its like Morbid Angel's first two albums, with heavy Slayer and Immortal influences. But for real, I don't think we sounded like anybody else, really. i'll throw the links up again... and actually, since you guys here are all into death metal 'n **** for real, I REALLY REALLY want to know what you guys think of Unholy Ceremonies, specifically the big evil badass "chorus" part in the middle (you'll know what I'm talking about, haha) http://www.sendspace.com/file/lonvbh "Unholy Ceremonies" http://www.sendspace.com/file/8co2xg "Curse of Enthrallment" http://www.sendspace.com/file/7oo8x9 "Call of the Ghoul" http://www.sendspace.com/file/583il9 "The Black Gate" Also, this is from the rough studio mix Brett made for us after we finished tracking. The bass drum is pretty buried, and my solos are real out-front, but other than that, I think it sounds great. I have the final mix version, where you can hear the kick drum more, but still not super clearly, but the solos are mixed a lot lower than I would've liked. I guess i can **** with them and paste them together to get the best of both worlds... that, and we also recorded a chill jam, based around Another Brick In The Wall Part 1, with the cool delay pedal ****, thats supposed to flow out of the ending of Curse of Enthrallment, but I don't like how it came out... so... sorry, lol. but yeah, I really really want to know what you guys here think of this stuff thanks guys |
Ok so I listened to Unholy Ceremonies and I thought it was pretty cool. Some criticisms though, first I thought it took too long for the vocals to come in, I tend to get bored with this kinda music sometimes when it takes long for the vocals to come in. I liked the vocals and the riffs were cool but a lot times I thought the drums sounded sloppy and almost out of time in some parts. That big part in the middle you talked about was ****ing awesome though! good job there! the only problem was with the vocals when the first actual growl came in during that part it sounded really weak. Other than that, cool song dude!

its a weird feeling when youre in a group that you think can go somewhere and then it falls apart :c

Thats EXACTLY what I was looking for!!! Thank you so much. I get what you mean with the vocals... that song just kinda lent itself to that. i'll have to go back and listen tho, cuz i don't recall ever thinking that the first growl was weak, lol. and you're right about the drums... i know they were our weakest part. We fixed some of the off-time **** later. I don't know why... he just couldn't play that "dun DUN DUN" part in time. But if I remember correctly... Ryan had only been playing drums for like, 3 years at that point, I think. I know it wasn't very long, like me where I'd been playing guitar for like 6 or 7 years by that point. but yeah thanks a ton man. |
