I hate hockey and I've never had a problem. Same for all the millions of other people in Canada and Europe who watch it.

big80smullet 02-03-2008 08:30 PM
That's not true at all. All the stations that broadcast sports always try to come up with new, flashier ways to update their TV interface (ie, scoreboards and information marquee, etc.). Whatever station first came up with that, the rest followed suit.

Besides, it's just there for clarity's sake. Why not have a little yellow bar that marks where they're trying to get?
They dont do that to any sports here or in england. Just a score and the time usually

Nostalgia 02-03-2008 08:31 PM

How many black people play hockey? Like, I'd really like to know.
That girl that just sang the national anthem can sing her @$$ off.
Yeah, she was really good.

This game is great for being so low scoring. Giants are kicking *** on defense.
I hate hockey and I've never had a problem. Same for all the millions of other people in Canada and Europe who watch it.
Exactly. We all know the average American is dumber than the dumbest Canadian.

When they're in the middle of the field, falling forward for a first down, you can't see the yard markers on the sidelines.

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:34 PM

I didn't say that. But the number of stupid americans watching sports v stupid canadians watching sport is pretty different, if only based on population.

and based on that, a lot of the americans watching sports are obviously too stupid to follow along without a little push here and there. there wouldn't be the demand for such things if viewers had more than four second attention span.

AA-12 02-03-2008 08:35 PM

I really doubt that has anything to do with nationality.

Canada's got hicks and religious nuts, too. Maybe not as many in some places, but they're still there. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the Anglo countries have the most cree-ay-shun-ism believers in the developed world. In other countries, that shit is restricted to small places like Jönköping.

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:36 PM
I really doubt that has anything to do with nationality.

It doesn't. They aren't stupid because they're American. They're stupid because they're stupid. And they're watching these sports. And they're stupid. And they cant follow them or pay attention without hilarious overlays.

I'm not saying everyone watching the Super Bowl is too stupid. I'm saying a lot of them are.

pate 02-03-2008 08:38 PM

A lot of people doing anything are stupid.

A lot of people posting on mx are stupid, that's why we have the button that spells out to us "post quick reply" because we're too spoiled to know how to do it ourselves.

AA-12 02-03-2008 08:38 PM

he overlays are very unobtrusive and help out a ton. Without them, positions and etc would be needlessly difficult to judge.

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:40 PM
he overlays are very unobtrusive and help out a ton. Without them, positions and etc would be needlessly difficult to judge.
I'm not talking about the statistical overlays, I'm talking about the giant and obnoxious yard overlays, the ones next to the players. It's not hard to count the yard-lines, and yet there's a gigantic 2ND 10 or whatever it is (couldnt stomach more than a few seconds of football) on the screen.

What ever happened to a "2nd down, [yards]" on the top of the screen?

I'm talking about the digitally overlayed "projected" logo/arrow they put to make it look like it's on the field.

pate 02-03-2008 08:41 PM

You're just noticing this?

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:42 PM

I don't watch football. It's a horribly boring sport in my eyes. And yet I can figure out how far 10 yards is in my own, whoa!
I don't watch football. It's a horribly boring sport in my eyes. And yet I can figure out how far 10 yards is in my own, whoa!
I get to go to a Stuporbowl party with free food so I'm content with the affair.

Kage 02-03-2008 08:46 PM

It's not always ten yards, jerk off. A lot of times it's 3, 4, 20, whatever. So the yellow line just puts where the team is trying to go. Instead of looking at the scoreboard, thinking, "there's three yards to go," and then measuring out three yards, all you have to do is look at the overlay.

Now shut up about it.

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:47 PM

I'm not talking about the yellow line, jerk off. I'm talking about the gigantic blue arrow, the rectangular one, the thick one. Glad to see how hostile you are about it though, jerk off.

Kage 02-03-2008 08:48 PM

I know what you're talking about, but my point still stands--it's not always ten yards, so it just makes things easier.

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:50 PM

I just don't see what's so hard about putting 2nd and 30 on the scoreboard. It's just unnecessary to me. I just like to keep it relatively simple with sports. For example, I'd rather watch the NBA on a local channel than on ABC, where there's all this panning and zooming.

Kage 02-03-2008 08:51 PM

I agree with you there, but now you're just getting into personal preference whereas before you were using it as some half-baked excuse to call all Americans stupid.

I don't even fucking watch sports on TV, so I don't know why I care about this.

Nostalgia 02-03-2008 08:51 PM

Tyler, I think you care about things a little too much. Like seriously, relax and enjoy life and stop being so Canadian.

Tyler 02-03-2008 08:53 PM

I really wasn't trying to call all Americans stupid, I was just saying that it's an American thing to do on sports telecasts, and usually as a result of the ones who tend to complain and use their own shortcomings as a reason to point out the seemingly obvious for everyone else.

Don't worry, I'm not one of those guys who's all AMERICANS ARE STUPID **** GEORGE BUSH LOL. It just came out wrong, and I'll presume what I said at the beginning of this post can be easily misconstrued as well.

I hold no ill-bearing towards America. I live in Toronto after all.

You're too argumentative, you try to find fault too easy, and you make potshots at American any chance you get. It's like, you're really cool, but chillax.

Go pop a collar and put on some JJ.
Ty I'd pass you a toke if we were a little closer
Most ****ing def.

Permanent Solution 02-03-2008 08:56 PM

I think it's funny I don't really ever get crap for saying things against America but Tyler does.

Because I mean if you don't live in America you can't find fault with it amirite?

Anglachel 02-03-2008 08:57 PM

if you're not a murderer you cant judge one then

Kage 02-03-2008 08:58 PM

I don't care if he criticizes America, it was just an incredibly dumb reason, dude.

Um when do I ever, ever take potshots at America? Pretty sure that's Riva, but thanks.
I don't care if he criticizes America, it was just an incredibly dumb reason, dude.
Didn't criticize America, criticized a portion of it.

Haha the whole thing is dumb.

I was mostly addressing what I saw as everyone saying "omg ur always bashing america" and such because tbh I'm pretty sure I do it more than he does so I mean...credit where it's due :p

Tyler 02-03-2008 09:02 PM

I never bash "America".

But because I'm Canadian I suppose it's the thing to assume. BRB, gotta ride my beaver to the arena, there's a Moose-cooking party going on.

Kage 02-03-2008 09:02 PM

Argh

Anglachel 02-03-2008 09:02 PM

Our education sucks compared to Canada's, we need further assistance to understand the game of football, our schools can't plow roads like Canada's can, we're lazy, etc.

I mean, they're probably all true, but who the **** really cares?

Tyler 02-03-2008 09:03 PM

ur all fat and stupid lol george bush is only in it for oil 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB.

(because I know that's apparently what I'm expected to post)
has anyone here ever eaten moose meat?
It's good.
Our education sucks compared to Canada's
It does. That's a government issue, who wouldn't criticise it?
we need further assistance to understand the game of football
A comment on the people too stupid to follow along, who happen to be American. I'm fully aware that not all Americans require this.
our schools can't plow roads like Canada's can
I never said this. I was surprised that it was such a taxing issue to plow the roads, that's all.
we're lazy
Never said that.
