I searched around a lot today for a Black Metal band that I hadn't heard of, that might rock my world a bit. I finally found one that was at least new to me, Pestilential Shadows. I thought they sound nice and grindy and they seem to vary the tempo a lot.

Here's some other bands I have been quite enjoying:

Krypt, Wedard, Pest, Nae'blis, Jormunganor, Instanz, Skuggeheim, Blodarv, Dusk, Blodsrit, Craft, Managarm, Lifelover, Zarathustra, Nocturnal Depression, Endless Dismal Moan, Stielas Storhett, A Raven's Forest, Exiled From Light, Sorgeldom, Ritus, Celestial Bloodshed, Feigur, Forgotten Tomb, Ritual, Dodsferd, Wrath, Thy Light, Armagedda, Woods of Infinity, Mortiferia, Thy Serpent, Fornicatus, Vrolok, Volkurah, Erhangen, Nosvrolok, Raison D'Etre, Stillhet, Strid, Striborg, Sterbend, Elite, Brocken Moon, Todeskult, Faulen, Chapel of Ghouls, Judas Iscariot, Bytting, Odal, Amestigon, Slaktare, Aetherius Obscuritas, Hellveto, Moloch, Negator, Verdunkeln, Lustre, Isengard

Ok, maybe should save some for next time. I know, most of it's old, but it's still pretty much what I like. Of course, it always helps me pay better attention if there's a really long haired babe in the mix.

Favorite maybe not quite Black Metal Band: MORBID!!

Maybe my favorite Black Metal song: Black Metal Storm

Question: Who are the best female Black Metal artists?
Some guesses: Is it Aghast, DodsAngel, Turdus Merula, Runhild Gammelsæter, Lloth, Sigh, Dana Duffy, İlkim Oulanem, or, Janaza? (I know I missed several. Any others to suggest?)

Non Metal statement: CHRISTIAN BALE won his Oscar, today! Yessssss!!

Cheers...
that rules
yeah, i still say sargeist is one of the best bm bands of the past decade

dUSK 02-28-2011 03:41 AM
i like how layered it is, the sound is great, but clean singing? they've gone more towards what austere had going, but also with the 'prettiness' that you get with some poo like alcest
I think they actually said they were going in that direction before the album had a release date. Kind of off-putting for me as I thought the second Austere full length was nothing special. Still waiting for my copy of new Woods... to arrive.

yeah they were. when i bought some shit from D. a few months ago i asked about the record (the s/t track had already been out) and he said that they were trying to get that sound going on Sorh but something fucked up with the master copy so they had to just go with what they had. worked really well in my opinion, i like that a lot better than what they've done now, but yeah

what in the blazes

witchxrapist 02-28-2011 05:29 AM

Honestly Berkay and Garg, Austere's last album was perfect, imo. And this new Woods... is really fucking good too.

But I'm an emofag, so I listen for different aspects.

Morumbar 02-28-2011 05:30 AM

I really like the production on the new Woods of Desolation.

Destroy All Girls 02-28-2011 05:31 AM

Garg Vikernes

Morumbar 02-28-2011 05:47 AM

I didn't mind the second Austere, but I've always thought Austere were far inferior to Woods of Desolation. the new WoD is good but like I said before, it's way too similar to what every 'depressive' black metal band is trying to do these days. toward the depths and sorh are so much better.

witchxrapist 02-28-2011 06:32 AM

Disagree and shit.
are you one of those girls that stays up until past 3 am and does totally random things with friends
Well, I guess that would depend on the friend. I suppose, I do tend to be kind of random at times, I have to admit.

my checking out angelcorpse has been welllll overdue

Morumbar 02-28-2011 04:56 PM

Best DSBM band is Make a Change... Kill Yourself for me. II is just utterly strength-draining. Lyrinx's Nihilistic Purity is also pretty devastating.

I don't really consider Woods of Desolation DSBM. It's a whole different vibe. Melancholic rather than depressing.

Blasting Like a Blaze Above Ashes rightnow. It's grown to be one of my favorites in the whole genre.

FatalEnergy 03-01-2011 12:19 AM

That band is pretty much flawless.

Angmar 03-01-2011 12:26 AM

That album is good but the other Forest material I've heard hasn't been up to par with it.

Morumbar 03-01-2011 02:30 AM
That album is good but the other Forest material I've heard hasn't been up to par with it.
Yeah, I agree.

TheSpirit 03-01-2011 06:19 AM
