Yeah, that was a case of Bartender not telling me to take a hint until twenty minutes after the fact.

He does this rather often with me. I'm beginning to wonder if it's just me or if he does this with others as well.

Man, Cocoa Krispies kick huge ass. A whole piss load of electricians came through the barracks early this morning inspecting everything damn thing that uses a jolt, making all kinds of racket and waking me from my slumber. So what's going on?

Not much man, just listening to Priest, then I'm going to the Theatre on a school trip,in half an hour. which will involve my chatting up this girl, hopefully.

Trojan Women, that should be a good production.

Ive changed it now. Its now a place where Mxer's can talk to each other about their differnces. Neutral ground as they say. There they can settle their differences, share annecdotes, even have a beer, but the main thing is that they learn to get along.

Its kind of like the final thought on Jerry Springer.:)

Flabbit - I sent your songs....sorry it took so long. Internet was down.

Cain 10-18-2005 03:06 PM

What's up all. I just had a fantastic guitar lesson, and I've nailed all the blues rhythm stuff he's given me. Now I'm going to learn "Goodbye Porkpie Hat" and learn how to adequetely solo over changes.

EDIT: Jesus Christ this thread's slow.

Not much. I just bought Nevermore's "This Godless Endeavor," but right now I'm listening to Ghost Reveries.

I also have just discovered two godly artists: Bill Frisell, and Edgar Meyer.

Edgar Meyer in particular is impressive. He's basically a double-bass shredder. Just imagine how hard that must be, and you have a slightly accurate impression of why he's awesome. On his record he plays classical pieces with Bela Fleck and Mike Marshall, and it's orgasm-inducing. I recommend Mr. Meyer's album "Uncommon Ritual" with no reservations.

I'm giving "This Godless Endeavor" its first serious listen since getting it off iTunes last night. I hate to jump on the Nevermore fanwagon, but seriously, this album CRUSHES. Jeff Loomis is awesome at writing cool seven-string riffs that are still musically coherent.

Shadows 10-18-2005 03:47 PM

TGE is an incredible album. Most say their earlier work is unsurpassable, but I think the new one is as good, if not better.

I don't think they play 7-strings on this one though.

They must. No way are they not, those riffs are unbelievably low.

You're probably right. On some songs they play a 7 and others they just tune into C#, but TGE is pretty low.

It's amazing stuff either way.

O yeah. Ugh, this kind of stuff just makes me go nuts. I love it. It's so heavy but musical, somehow.

Flabbit: Nevermore are basically like power metal with heavy, extreme metal influences in the rhythms. Think Megadeth-style dissonance and soloing combined with seven-strings and Cannibal Corpse-level guitar chops, death drums, and power vocals.

superpeer 10-18-2005 03:52 PM

Nevermore, meh.

Anyway, I'm gonna go watch Little Britain, later.

I don't know how to categorize them other than heavy metal. They have clean singing all the time, but they have really low, heavy ass riffs. Their solos are insane too.

I suggest checking out This Godless Endeavor or Dreaming Neon Black.

Cain 10-18-2005 03:54 PM

I like the grooves on Enemies of Reality a lot too.

Me too. Many say it's a terrible album, but I think it has a darker, heavier sound than their other stuff. Very listenable if you get the remastered version with non-shitty quality.

I'll definatly be checking them out.

Oh wait, maybe in Belgium you don't have people repeating the catchphrases constantly over and over again for two years, that would put you off anything.

You should feel lucky about that, it ruined that show for me...

Six Foot Revolver 10-18-2005 04:53 PM

That show ruined itself. The first episode was funny but then they just did the exact same thing over and over again only with a slight alteration in scenery or something. That show got boring incredibly fast.
EDIT:
I don't quite understand why I'm the recipient of such venom on your part, either. I understand what you say, but surely you know me better than to take a retarded thing like what I said as seriously as it seemed you did? And to lump me in with the "ignorant" Americans you say you despise?

Or perhaps you're not being serious, and I'm just winding myself up for no reason.
Yeah, sorry for over-reacting. I just get a bit annoyed at how "America" has taken over the world's pop-culture, etc. It started out as light-hearted actually, but I edited it, and it kind of spiralled out into this rant you see now. I didn't mean to poison the good-nature of this thread. :-/
And I apologize, although I don't understand why you said that YOU nearly ruined our friendship. Surely that was me? (Besides, it's not as if I've been anyone's favorite poster of late.)
No, I meant I nearly destroyed, as in, cut off diplomatic ties. :)
Like what?
A friend of mine is 1/4 American, though his grandmother didn't especially like Americans. I've heard plenty of similar cases. Also, a lot of land was commandeered as "US Army Only", meaning some people had to move their houses, and abandon their farms. And of course you had the usual drunken rampages, etc, common to most soldiery.

However, the soldiers did lay some of the finest concrete roads in Australia, so I guess they did have some good points. :) No nation has a monopoly on good or evil, anyway.
Again, not much, except for the battle of the Coral Sea. As you probably know, my main area of World War II expertise is the European theater, and as you also know, my answer was a rather smart-ass quote of an informative but hyperbole-filled book called "Secret Weapons of World War II" by book-a-month historian William B. Breuer. I really wasn't expecting such a harsh response from you over that, to be honest.
It's just that thousands of ANZACs fought and died in parallel, side thrusts to the American offensives. The Kokoda trail was nearly as bloody as Gallipoli, and the city of Darwin was bombed on the 28th March, 1942. The raid targeted the RAAF fields, but ended up destroying a great deal of civilian structures, also.
To be honest, I despise American accounts of World War II. The majority of the books I read on the subject are by British historians. Stephen Ambrose's work is quite pedestrian, and I find that the British authors (and German authors) are far more thorough and accurate in their attention to historical detail and analysis. Although I do take issue with your assessment that American history only deals with American victories, or overstates the American involvement. Your average history buff would say the Americans bailed out the Allies, certainly, but such a statement is patently false, as the Russians were by far the decisive factor in every way with regard to the ultimate smashing of Hitler. Any decent history book would say so.
I agree that I overstated a little bit, and yes, I'm glad you recognised their assistance in the war. I saw a documentary last night about Charlie Chaplin, and he used to walk into halls and say, "Comrades!" as loud as he could, in support of the Russians.
I liked your answers too. :)
Thankee.
And in any case, my ultimate point--that my desire to defend Americans was strange, given that I would have agreed with her criticisms under normal circumstances--seems to have been lost.
Yeah, sorry it got drowned out in a wave of ravings and rantings. :-/ Don't worry, you're still one of my favourite posters. And to quote Team America: World Police, (a rather ironic choice, considering our discussion), "I value your friendship!". Of course, you have to imagine that being said in the most corny, action-movie-esque way possible.

ThrashMaster27 10-18-2005 05:00 PM

Hmm, speaking of corny action films...

Don't ever watch Hard To Kill with Steven Seagal in. It's possibly the worst film I've ever seen, yet I watched it until the end. My fave quote being...

"I'm gonna take you to the bank Senator Trent....the bloodbank"
