YDload 07-16-2007 10:46 PM

you're not a Pixies fan if you don't like Surfer Rosa at all.

and now, you never can

Apocalyptic Raids 07-16-2007 11:35 PM

I prefer Surfer, though I've spent a lot more time with it than any other Pixies release.

Thanks 07-16-2007 11:51 PM

Surfer Rosa has better songs, and the good songs on Doolittle are done a disservice by its cold, dead mix.

If Albini was on Doolittle it would be a fairer race, but Surfer would still win.

I'm listening to The Lone Gunman by Idaho. I like them except when they try to do trip-hop.

The Lone Gunman is the first one that I got :/

I'll give you a link

sexymuffin 07-17-2007 01:39 AM

anxious: three sheets to the wind has some classic songs on it and is more accessible because of its rock-ish feel

hearts of palm is a lot more chilled out and overall superior tbh

purple: thanks a lot

Interstate 07-17-2007 08:15 AM

Boris - Pink - This is first album to really grip me in a while.
The Birthday Party - Junkyard

Anxious 07-17-2007 08:19 AM

Perry Leopold-Christian Lucifer

70's acid-folk with an excellent singer. Almost all of the songs use minor chords so its depressive, but with great melodies. Apparently this never got released in the 70's, and someone found the tapes in 2002 and remastered it and released it. Consequently the recording quality is very good.

Tom Waits- Alice

Favorite Waits album.

I just bought that today! I prefer the Noise Rock/Punk aspect of it to the Drone Metal side of things. It gets a bit much after a while as well, after about 5 tracks my head feels like its gonna explode. Thats probably the point of it though!

Yeah I know what you mean, I have to listen to it in stages with other songs or albums in between because I get the same feeling. The album title track is one of the best, that was the one I listened to first and it almost blew me out of my seat.

Only album I've heard by Boris, I'm not really sure which to get next, although I'll definitely be getting more of their material.

Yo La Tengo - Painful
Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah - Some Loud Thunder
Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch

Painful is such a great CD and Some Loud Thunder surprises me every time I listen to it.

What is Painful like compared to I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One & I Am Not Afraid...? They are the only two Yo La Tengo albums I've heard but they are quickly becoming one of my favourite bands.

As for the Clap Your Hands album, would you consider it better then their self titled because I could only listen to about 3 songs before it made me want to turn it off.

Kyle 07-17-2007 02:43 PM

I thought Some Loud Thunder was piss weak at first and then I realised I just don't really like the CYHSY. I always liked the song Is This Love? for some reason, though.

Today have been listening to Minor Threat and Architecture in Helsinki which somehow go together quite well.

It's probably just as good, I'll be able to tell with another listen or two. I like Some Loud Thunder better than Clap Your Hand's debut, but I've heard a lot of people say differently. There's a lot of cool songs on it.

Sweet, I'll have to download Painful at some point then. I'll maybe give Clap Your Hands self titled another go and see if I like it because it was a while ago since I gave it a listen. Either that or download the new album.#

Thanks for your advice. :thumb:
