I didn't mind it too much either, but it does take a little bit away.
And yes, I didn't really like how they did Comfortably Numb, but eh.
Im not a fan of Comfortably Numb on Pulse either. Although I adore the extended solo. |
Yeah, I'm not as much a fan of David Gilmour's stuff when he headed the band, so I found the beginning of Pulse to drag on a little bit. The rest was great though.
|
i've got the CD version of pulse, wodnering if i should get the DVD as well
|
I would say you should, if you liked the CD. Or even if you didn't like it.
|
haha i dont wanna bring up the whole pulse vs. pompeii thing again
|
haha
I've noticed that this thread goes in circles a bunch Aussie Floyd --> "I'm going to go see waters" --> Hey, what album should I get next? --> You need drugs for a better experience --> No you don't --> I respect both of your opinions, but... --> Haven't we had this conversation before? |
true words
|
Yes, but that's what makes if fun. We should start up the song interpretations again.
|
i think pigs is about pigs
|
Us and Them is about Them and Us
|
Actually I think Us and Them (my interpretation :p) is actually referencing America's involvement in Vietnam. The song not only contains many lyrics alluding to war, but the actuall title itself gives a clue.
U.S and Them? It also holds a spooky relevance with the current war in Iraq... "With, without? (weapons of mass destruction!) And who'll deny its what the fightings all about?" This should get things rollin' :smoke: |
Well it definitely is an anti-war song. Considering Vietnam was the war of choice during the early 70's, when the song was written, it could very easily be about that. I'm sure it had some influence on Roger writing the song at the time.
And seeing as Vietnam is so similar to Iraq, it makes sense. But really, I think the song is more anti-war in general, than anti-Vietnam. |
Roger writing the song at the time
Rick Wright wrote Us and Them. It was his last contribution, song writing wise, to the group if I remember correctly. |

With the fears of old age, wealth, war and flying (And some others) and how they can accumulate to create insanity. Something I have always wondered though, where does Any Colour You Like come in to the concept? |
Any Colour You Like is the descent into madness, and hence the title refers to the fact that it doesn't matter how you get there, the end result is the same.

Aha, brilliant! |
Us and Them>Any Color>Brain Damage>Eclipse is a conceptually stunning sequence through and through.
Us and Them>Any Color>Brain Damage>Eclipse is a conceptually stunning sequence through and through.
truth. This whole sequence of songs has always been my favorite part of Dark Side. I assumed that Us and Them was about war in general. I think that the whole DSoTM album in general is about the things that make people mad. Time (Time...duh) the fear of death (The Great Gig in the Sky) Money (Money...duh) war (Us and Them) and others. I think that Breath might have to do with isolation, but I'm not sure. |
holy **** one time i listned to pink floyd i tripped out so hard i can never listen to them agian but it was amazeing
|
lol, why'd everyone rep my last post?
|
What was your last post?
Pulse was disappointing. Not totally terrible but diappointing.
This one? |
Yeah
|
I don't know. I didn't rep you.
|
Maybe alot of people agree with you. Rep has never been a good indication on these forums.
|
I liked pulse.
I like the post waters songs alot more live than I do on the albums especially High Hopes I don't know why. |
Especially Learning To Fly, it's one of my favourite Floyd songs, no matter what era.
|
Especially Learning To Fly, it's one of my favourite Floyd songs, no matter what era.
Yeah that's a great song. For some reason I always forget about it, and then re-discover it's greatness. |
To me it sounds nothing like Pink Floyd. As much as they changed musical direction over the years there was still something that when youd listen you would know its Pink Floyd. Whereas with the post-waters songs I didnt feel that way.
|
guys does pink floyd ever trip u out like the first song on the division bell
|
What's your definition of "tripping out?"
|

I know it's Pink Floyd from Gilmour's voice, and it's not really all that different from any of the other post-Waters songs. |
I meant all post-waters songs. From what ive heard, its not that I don't like them its the fact they sound more Gilmour solo.
|
Well, the band took a major turn when they lost Syd also, but I still consider every album made under the Pink Floyd name to be a Pink Floyd album. :p
|
And The Devision Bell is great, I rate it higher than Animals.
|
Well, I wouldn't go that far, but I'd rate it above Atom Heart Mother and Ummagumma on an album vs album basis.
|
Nothing can surpass Animals
|
Especially Learning To Fly, it's one of my favourite Floyd songs, no matter what era.
Listening to that right now. That middle section when everything goes so atmospheric and breezy is so damn good. Dave's voice is amazing in that bit. |
Nothing can surpass Animals
:D Truth |
Honestly I hate Learning to Fly. One of the weakest Floyd songs I've heard.
And Animals rule supreme. |
I've said it before and I'll say it again; WYWH > Animals.
And I don't particularly like the post-Waters out put, but on Pulse the songs just seem to work alot better, and I can actually enjoy them alot more than the album tracks. |
