Dark Tranquillity is a cut above all other Gothenburg bands. You'll certainly like At The Gates. Try Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy... you might like a lot of the metalcore bands who are certainly influenced by band like In Flames, for example Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, and Unearth. I don't like these bands as much but they're still pretty good. Trivium you may like, but they're like Nu-Metal all over again, with stupid lyrics and angst and stuff. They do have wicked riffs and solos though.

Bartender 09-26-2005 09:42 AM

I think the two principal St Vitus recommendations are V and the self-titled, but one of them is supposedly very hard to find. I forget which.

loathed - you may also like a band called Eucharist. The album of theirs I see most frequently recommended is Mirrorworlds.

Ask in the thrash thread and you'll get a ton of recommendations. But for a start, check out some other Bay Area thrash bands.

Death Angel
Possessed
Heathen
Vio-lence
Sadus
Testament

And you should check out Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Coroner, and Dark Angel too.

Can somebody recommend me something that's similiar to Ulver's "Perdition City"? It isn't really rock or metal, but Ulver is metal band too.

DemonicRubberDucky 09-26-2005 03:37 PM

Hey, could someone get me a few good grindcore bands, similiar to D.R.I and SOD?

That's their electronic album, isn't it? I've not heard it, but I've heard that it's a trip-hop album (or trip-hop-ish). If so, you want to get yourself some trip-hop.

hmmm for the guys like vai id go with yngwie malmsteen and mabye marc rizzo...you mostly named all the big ones for the other bands i suggest arturcus, biomechanical, into eternity and communic.

PIGS(1 different one) 09-26-2005 05:31 PM

I'm looking for more European Meldodic Death with power choruses like In Flames...

anyone know any good bands?

ArcLite 09-26-2005 05:35 PM

The only thing that I could throw at you for this is Mors Principium Est. Check out their album "The Unborn" if you're not already familiar with them. Not quite the same chorus style as In Flames, but as close as I can get with my music collection. And an excellent melodic death band no matter how you look at them.

kidthatplaysguitar91 09-26-2005 05:38 PM

i have a suggestion of a band thats probally not that popular, metal church

Screaming Trees, Mudhoney, Green River, Supersuckers, Dead Moon, The Melvins, Gas Huffer.

A lot of those bands are pretty underground i don't know if they have any stuff online or anything. I used to really be into grunge back in the middle school days :)

My friends are into Dropkick Murphys, and if there is an album called "blackout" or something like that, then get it. That is their favorite.

/not sure if that's helpful.
