I haven't listened to My Dying Bride in forever.
For shame.

RetiredAt21 03-12-2007 05:56 AM

I'm listening to The Dreadful Hours right now. So good.

ATM 03-12-2007 07:49 AM

Any fans of Abominable Iron Sloth?

Iron Bars 03-12-2007 10:17 AM

I checked out their album last week and I thought it was pretty good.

Hardhat 03-12-2007 06:05 PM

Anyone listen to Estatic Fear? They are GREAT, not strictly Doom, but great, great band that incorporated gothic and medieval elements too.

Also, they play the lute.

Here's a song:

I also enjoyed last weeks upload of them.

Goat Horn = Awesome. Anyone else like them? They're a traditional Doom band from Ontario, it's really solid stuff.

Bartender 03-13-2007 08:56 PM

Goat Horn are great, been hooked ever since I saw the video for "Rotten Roll". Still haven't actually bought Storming the Gates though.

Tyler 03-13-2007 08:57 PM

Yeah, I just have it downloaded. I've been looking for it at some local used CD places but it hasn't turned up just yet. Some of the vocals are a little weird, but damn, the CD is so solid.

Bartender 03-13-2007 08:59 PM

Yeah, there are a couple of moments where he tries to go all Halford and fails badly, but I don't really care.

Tyler 03-13-2007 09:04 PM

Storm In is pretty cool, too. The speedy approach is cool and they pull it off really well. Sadly the song is only 28 seconds long, hah. The Last Force is a little bit up-tempo, but not in the same respect.

When I mentioned the vocals, I just meant they sound a little...I don't want to say poppy, but the ultra-clean vocals seem to stick out behind all the distortion and whatnot.

Bartender 03-13-2007 09:07 PM

Oh, fair enough. I don't mind the vocals all that much in that respect, but there are a couple of horribly failed squealy/shrieky moments that make me wince. Reminds me The Chasm.

Tyler 03-13-2007 09:10 PM

Yeah, but coincidentally enough, the Chasm is also amazing.

Awesome band.

Poofy 666 03-14-2007 04:57 PM

Is Weedeater worth checking out?

I love The Chasm <3

the2stranger 03-14-2007 05:35 PM

Weedeater is awesome.
Well worth your time!

...And Justice For Y'all... is a great album!

Poofy 666 03-14-2007 05:47 PM

Awsome. I'm gonna see if I can go see Boris and Weedeater this week then.

Elliptical Ion 03-15-2007 12:18 AM

Anyone like Sleep? Dopesmoker is such an amazing album.

ATM 03-15-2007 12:32 AM

Of course. Holy Mountain is badass, too.

the2stranger 03-15-2007 04:03 AM

Enjoy that gig Alex, sounds like a great line-up.

And Sleep is great indeed.
Dopesmoker remains my favorite.
Awesome song that ever get boring, even though it's so repetitive.

Iron Bars 03-15-2007 04:46 AM

I found Jerusalem in a cd shop not to long ago. Bought it without a second thought and it wasn't a disapointment. The repetitiveness is just relaxing and just when it starts to gets boring Pike blasts in with some weird guitar solo.

Anyone listen to OM btw?

ATM 03-15-2007 06:52 AM

Someone uploaded some to the DU awhile ago and I enjoyed it.

RetiredAt21 03-15-2007 08:39 AM

Sleep is mad good.

the2stranger 03-15-2007 10:03 AM

OM, is pretty excellent, very relaxing as well.
I have both releases, must listen to them more actually.

np: Jesu - Your Path To Divinity
(great band \m/)

Iron Bars 03-15-2007 10:29 AM

I uploaded Birds of Conference for the DU. I love that album. Cisneros is a great bassplayer and vocalist. The way he makes the bass flow is absolutly amazing.

the2stranger 03-15-2007 10:47 AM

I agree, not many people can play the bass as an instrument on its own.
A lot of people can play bass and a lot of people can play it wel. But to make the bassguitar as worthy instrument on its own, that requires some skill.

np: Marzuraan - Punch The Goat
(great black-ish drone)

AlienEater 03-15-2007 10:50 AM

OM is good

As a bassplayer I can say its an easy instument to learn but a hard one to master.

NP: Cathedral - Corpsecycle

Exactly.

Damn, I need some new funeral doom. :(
