Gilbert >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Petrucci
I don't know about that, but both are rather awesome.

MAthiAS 09-03-2005 11:54 PM

Yeah, I know. I prefer Gilbert though. Scarified > anything DT have done.

Darkness 09-03-2005 11:55 PM

Viking Kong is such an awesome instrumental...

We should start a Racer X thread.

MAthiAS 09-04-2005 12:01 AM

Word.

adioviva 09-04-2005 12:02 AM

Word.

So you like boobs too?

MAthiAS 09-04-2005 12:07 AM

Yeah.

adioviva 09-04-2005 12:08 AM

That's pretty sweet. Are you canadian?

MAthiAS 09-04-2005 12:10 AM

By descent, but I live in New Jersey =/

adioviva 09-04-2005 12:10 AM

**** canadians

Darkness 09-04-2005 12:11 AM

Watch it dude, I'm Canadain...

MAthiAS 09-04-2005 12:14 AM

What the hell do you have against Canadians?

CarvinShredder 09-04-2005 01:30 AM

I actually don't like Gilbert his solo style in racer x. he wanks to much there in my opinion. I prefer Petrucci over Gilbert anyday. And Dt over Racer X and MrBig

Darkness 09-04-2005 01:35 AM

He doesn't wank anymore then Petrucci does...

CarvinShredder 09-04-2005 01:37 AM

Well in almost every Racer X song I have heard ( something like 30 ) He has solos who are all the way 16th sexuplets. And that's in my opinion wanking. And I was talking about the 'young' petrucci. From IaW to SFAM

Prince of Darkness 09-04-2005 03:27 AM

I dislike Symphony X for one reason.

Crap Name.

But, Yes, So is Dream Theater

Ad Absurdum 09-04-2005 04:44 AM
scarred??
Yeah, probably the best Dream Theater song ever in my opinion; it's on the album Awake
A lot of people like to do "Symphony X vs. Dream Theater", when neither band is alike besides the common factors of virtuosity, and Russel and LaBrie have similar vocal styles :(
I wouldn't say they have similar vocal styles, and you're right these bands shouldn't be compared. Both are brilliant in their own way.

I'm surprised that no one picked 'Blind Faith' as their favourite song on Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence.

Prince of Darkness 09-04-2005 04:51 AM

Awake and Images and Words are my favorites.

Octavarium isn't that bad. It's just not The Dream Theater I knew.

Mr Benners 09-04-2005 04:52 AM
Yeah, I know. I prefer Gilbert though. Scarified > anything DT have done.
Sometimes I wonder if you actually like DT at all :p

You're a fan of the earlier stuff aren't you?

the2stranger 09-04-2005 06:04 AM

Do you like Porcupine Tree than?

BTW, I've decided that my fav. of 6DOIT in order go:

The Glass Prison > Misunderstood > Blind Faith > The Great Debate = Disappear

Speed =/= wankage

Most of Petrucci's solos are just scalar patterns played really fast, often chromatic patterns even. That's wankage.

MrBenners: Yes.

that sounds more like Slayer solos to me.
slayer bores the crap out of me

WheepingGuitar39 09-04-2005 10:04 AM

Yup
the Gigantour show at Montreal kicked ***. It was filmed for the DVD release.
all the bands were ****.
But then Dream Theatre came on and W O W.
GREAT stuff.

and to DirtyQuebec6969, I refuse to believe you are from quebec.

Odd time signatures? Have you ever heard of Pink Floyd?
One of Dream Theatre's biggest influences? Pink Floyd? hmm yea.
And we all know Quebecers are in love with Pink Floyd.
So you equals not Quebec.

On another note..
Dave Mustaine later on in the show had the Quebec flag wrapped around him.. with fireworks going off, what a site.

thunderzstruck 09-04-2005 10:12 AM
We did something like that a few pages back actually. :p
And I was the one who brought that up too :-D

Slayer has some great riffing, but every last one of their solos sucks balls.

bwnstl 09-04-2005 12:24 PM

Am I the only one who absolutely loves Disappear off of 6DOIT? I won't necessarily say it's my favorite song off of Disc 1, but it's the one I've been listening to the most lately.

Darkness 09-04-2005 12:25 PM

Its decent, a bit similar to the last song on Awake... which's title has slipped my mind.

MAthiAS 09-04-2005 12:26 PM

Space Dye Vest > Disappear

Darkness 09-04-2005 01:30 PM

Yeah thats the one. One of my top 3 Dream Theater songs. Forsure... I don't think they have a more emotional song.
