Why is Tupac wearing a corset?

i am the robots 12-26-2007 02:29 AM

Because Tupac is an overrated fag and a rapist and not a good person though everybody wants to remember him to be.

Steerpike 12-26-2007 02:58 AM

Here's something I need to get out of my system, but I'm in a good mood, so it's actually a positive stream-of-thought sort of thing. Feel free to disregard.

I've been studying the works of David DeAngelo, Mystery, et al for... about a year or so. I didn't really actively get into it until the fall of 2006, really. I picked up a copy of The Game by Neil Strauss and that sort of cinched it for me.

Anyway, I've been more applying the teachings to other aspects of my life, trying to get a lot of my various and sundry... issues under control. I figure dating should be the least of my concerns when I'm as screwed up as I am, but I've made progress and I'm actually feeling better than I have in years.

Now, this is a good thing, right? I've made strides in overcoming my depression, I'm making more friends than even before, I'm going pro with what used to be hobbies of mine. I'm enrolled at Pittsburgh Filmmakers, I'm going overseas this spring, I've been made a moderator at a magic message board after the CEO of Ellusionist took a shine to me, I've been invited to be the founding member of a new Pittsburgh magicians' organization, my website is going live soon... All since I started studying and applying this material from dating gurus who in essence are really telling you how to be a better you. But I've noticed an interesting phenomenon along the way.

I've always known that you can't please everybody, but it's becoming more and more clear to me these days. I've tried to introduce others to this material. It's a wealth of great information, and what good is being successful if I can't share that? Unfortunately, not everybody agrees.

While some of my friends have welcomed these new teachers and paradigms with open arms and minds, others... not so much. I've been called a lot of interesting names that I'd never been before. And I'm getting a lot of the same talking points.

"Why waste your money on that? Just treat women like people."
"Just be yourself."
"You actually needed a book to tell you how to meet girls? That's pathetic."

I've come to the realization that not only are humans stupid by nature, they're also horrified by the prospect of thinking and changing their paradigms. The people who tell me to be ashamed of myself for the road I've taken were the ones who drove me into depression in the first place. They're married to their own mediocrity, and don't want success to get in the way of their plentiful company.

I can't recall who said this quote, but it went something like, "If you trick people into believing you made them think, they'll love you for it. But if you actually do make them think, they'll hate you for it."

Some of you guys probably remember what I was like in the summer of '05. I was a wreck. I threw myself into writing my band spotlights and short stories and screenplays because I had nothing else. I made those emo brats at Hot Topic look like a fucking Broadway musical troupe. (Emo kid/musical theater gay joke goes here)

Perhaps the hardest thing I've had to do this year is to continually stand up for myself and my decisions to improve my life. Those people who keep trying to shame me just don't get it. Whether intentionally or not, their ignorance keeps them from understand anything about me or what I've been through. But damn, it feels good to finally be able to tell them to fuck off out of something other than spite.

I'm going to hit some new milestones in 2008. For once, I actually look forward to a new year.

Riva 12-26-2007 03:27 AM

Good for you, mate. I am glad to see things going your way for the new year. It's like someone once said, "Any idiot can go through life without offending people." When you start pissing people off, that's when you know you're acting on your own ideas and making something for yourself.

Steerpike 12-26-2007 03:41 AM

I've actually come to the conclusion that we can gauge a person's awesomeness with surprising accuracy based on how many people they're pissing off at any given time.

How about the trolls in guitar forum?

Anyway, good for you. If you feel that you've personally improved as a person, then that's a win in any language.
