In Latin? Not much. I dropped it about 4 years ago, and only did it for 2 years.

I remember a couple of basic sentences, 'Cave canem', 'Sub arbore sedet puella Romana, nomine Flavia', 'magister mundi sum' and 'Ecce, mama!' - though I've probably got them wrong, and the last one is a little... unorthodox.

Edit - Screw your edit!

Foxfire 12-02-2004 05:34 PM

I've taken Latin since first grade. I would much rather learn Spanish and such.

Omega Red 12-02-2004 05:34 PM
Latin isn't that practical in today's world, in my opinion...
You'd own me in it.... not even a semster here.

Foxfire 12-02-2004 05:37 PM

See, my problem is that I can't use it and thus it's harder to keep up with, you know? I find that English helps me with Latin more than vice versa. :p

ScorpSath 12-02-2004 05:39 PM

Hey all.

PaulSimonon 12-02-2004 05:40 PM

Hey Scorp.

nisakss 12-02-2004 05:42 PM

Hey Scorp, what's up?

twopelu 12-02-2004 05:42 PM

Latin is gramatically much more complex than english.

English is pretty simple compared to latin languages such as spanish, french...

Spanish is one of the most complex languages in the world (as linguists say). Id like to learn japanese or chinese, my maths teacher tryed to lteach me a little but it was really hard. I studied french for some years, it was quite complex, similar to spanish, but I really hate that language for some reason.

I love english because you can make things simpler and shorter. It easy to learn and speak and it allows you to say lots of things with just a few words.

But spanish is just The language in terms of writing, you know, spanish literature was the most famouis during the whole period from X to XX.

P.D. A good latin sentence: "Carpe Diem" ;

or "Ilea Jacta Est" (or something similar)... or "vini vidi vinci"... lol

I knod some latin cause I love philosophy.

Foxfire 12-02-2004 06:05 PM

A thing that makes Japanese hard is the amount of alphabets. You have Hiragana and Katakana, not to mention the monosyllabic system they use for more advanced pieces of writing.

twopelu 12-02-2004 06:06 PM

Oh, as we discuss Latin, check this out.

On the American One-Dollar Bill, on the back, there is a pyramid next to the big ONE label. Above the ONE, it says 'In God We Trust'.

However, below the pyramid, it says 'Novus Ordo Seclorum'. Anyone knowing Spanish at all should be able to easily translate this. 'New Secular Order'.

(Secular meaning not having to do with God in any way, fyi.)

Neat, huh? :)

Winter merged all the casuals in an attempt to beat out the guitar stronghold thread in the guitar forum, were close to beating it.

Omega Red 12-02-2004 06:33 PM

If everyone in the bass forums, went back to the first page, and replied to every single post in this thread, it would be so freaking huge

More worrying is that the Pyramid with the Eye is the symbol of the Illuminati, a Bavarian secret society, and the basis of roughly half the conspiracry theories in the world.

I find that absolutely hilarious, and actually keep a dollar in my wallet so I can take it out and laugh at America when I feel bored. :thumb:

Dieforitall89 12-02-2004 06:35 PM

If more than one person were to do that, it would be infinate in size.

super deluxe 12-02-2004 06:41 PM

Guys, I had an idea yesterday but it was so late only Quatre was around so it didn't really get going....

So, to get more posts here, and because it's fun, I was thinking we should do a "forced listening" thing in here. The way it works is someone suggests a song, then someone else gets "dibs" on it, listens to it, and says what they think. Then they recommend a song.

Anybody takers?
