those are the first to come to mind, but certainly not the only ones.
Yeah downloading a couple songs like those just to get into them is probally better then buying the albums first, just to get a feel for the band, I just forget about being able to download songs because I can't. Nice recommondation Bonzo :thumb:
it's not just john though. paul has some excellent ones. and george's lyrics never cease to amaze me. george is prob my favorite beatle.

bob dylan's lyrics also speak to me. i used positively 4th street to break up with one of my old gfs.
:thumb:

George's the best. His lyrics are the most spontaneous and innocent of the Beatles'.

kux0 03-22-2005 10:19 PM

i like gilmours lyrics. They just kinda click with me, like when i first heard dsotm i totaly understood what he was talking about..even though i was only 12. :)

I think Waters wrote it and Gilmour sang it. At least thats the way it is for Dark Side of the Moon. But I know what you mean about them clicking with you.

kux0 03-22-2005 10:27 PM

i dont know, i think on the dsotm great albums dvd it said it was gilmours first turn taking a lead role in writing the cd's lyrics, but it might have said waters and i just missed it.

pigonthewing82 03-22-2005 10:33 PM

I think your confusing Gilmour and Waters. It happens a lot.
 I was just going to edit my post and say how much Dylans lyrics are starting to speak to me. Yeah his song Masters of War and Blowing in the Wind speak to my politically like no other.
Bob Dylan speaks to me more than anyone else in this world ever has. I love the man. He is an amazing songwriter.

Yeah in my english class we had to do a project on a poet of our choice and mine was Bob Dylan.

My little sister actually wrote a report on Bob Dylan. She came home from school one day and asked me for a song that is important to the world. I just sent her to bobdylan.com and told her to choose one. She chose Masters of War, and wrote like a two page report on Bob Dylan and his songwriting.

Good choice Masters of War is my favorite Bob Dylan song/anti war song.

Seafroggys 03-22-2005 11:20 PM

I did a report on Blue OYster Cult. Good report, but I don't like them as much as I did back then
I did a report on Blue OYster Cult. Good report, but I don't like them as much as I did back then
Yeah I went though my Blue Oyster Cult phase. I still listen to their early days once and a while, but rarly their later days.

kux0 03-23-2005 12:01 AM

Blue oyster cult definetly writes great songs.

BTW i was just thinking if any of you guys have ever heard people refer to led zeppelin as him, like they are one singular person?

slowhand 03-23-2005 12:04 AM

I'm ashame to say it but... my girlfriend did... that sucked.

kux0 03-23-2005 12:13 AM

my girlfriend has done it on many occasions...and now all her friends do it. conspiracy i tell you.
No I haven't yet
lucky you, its terrifying

B0nz0 03-23-2005 01:57 AM

on the topic of bob dylan's lyrics though, have any of u broken up w/ ur gf with positively 4th street? i have.

/wins page

oddly enough we're still on speaking terms... i was hoping at the time that she would never speak to me again...

no i've never heard led zeppelin referred to as him. however lynyrd skynyrd happens all the time. same with steely dan.

speaking of steely dan, what are your thoughts?

RockAndRoll 03-23-2005 06:46 AM

They get a thumbs up from me. I don't like all of their stuff but some of their stuff is really good and their fantastic musicians. Jethro tull is often thought of as "him"

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-23-2005 07:21 AM
What does everybody in here think of Syd Barretts solo career. I mean it has its flaws, but it also has great tracks like Dominoes.
Octopus is awsome I think I'll post it somday.

Livewired is gone! Guitarguy now him....:(

Badmoon 03-23-2005 07:32 AM

Schyma, go take that Gram Parsons sample before it expires. It is a few pages back. And if you like it, I'll post a few more later :)

"Octopus" is one of the few S.B. songs I enjoy. :)

P.S. Who are the guys in my avatar?

kux0 03-23-2005 09:59 AM

my favorite syd barret song is prbably lucifer sam, its so james bondy. I like bike too. i htink that song can verify that syd took way to much acid, that is if you are still in denial about it.

i didnt want to start a new thread, so ill post this here,

does any one like the band blind faith? i know they only had 1 album in their whole career, but it could be seen as another cream album. So what do people think about them?

a solid band. didn't really push the genre foward in the way cream did, but a fantastic collection of musicians.

pretty decent band, not cream though, but decent nonetheless

slowhand 03-23-2005 02:25 PM

Blind Faith is pretty good, Clapton has some of his best soloing there outside of Derek and the Dominoes... and of course, Cream's Crossroads.

B0nz0 03-23-2005 02:54 PM

These bands are commonly labeled "super groups":
The Traveling Wilburys (George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbinson)
CSNY (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young obviously)
ELP (Emerson Lake & Palmer obviously)
Cream (Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker)
Buffalo Springfield (can't remember whole line up but had Stills and Young)

but would u consider bands like:
Rush
The Doors
The Who
Yes
Van Halen

to be super groups? i mean they also had tremendous instrumental talent. i guess what i'm asking is whad do u think constitutes a super group?

B0nz0 03-23-2005 03:06 PM

yea i was thinking along those lines, but what bands had ginger baker and jack bruce been in that were huge before cream? just the graham bond organization and u can't call that a very large or successful band. eric clapton had been in the yardbirds true, but one person doesn't make a super group, hense derek and the dominoes isn't considered a supergroup. me is confused
