Yeah, that definitely sums it up for me. Everybody here is super-nice, but when you guys go on sprees of smiley posts or you address each other by first name or start talking about each other's sisters or something, I kind of go "Derr...?" and hope that I can fit in somehow.

Right, that makes sense. I only seem to pop on my MX AIM screen name in case of emergencies or something.

I used to really like talking to people, but then I just got burnt out from a bunch of other people getting a hold of my screen name (mostly when people got banned, they would magically get my contact info and ask me to find out why they were banned or whatever) and/or the conversations as a result weren't very rewarding in the end, borderline frustrating, because they wouldn't shut up about [removed to protect the innocent]. So I gave that up and just ask for e-mails, unless people know other ways of getting a hold of me instantly through another medium.
