A lot of Floyd is too depressing for me to listen to. I never really get into it.
|
i think the wall is a prime example of this. roger waters went a little overboard there. i mean there are some great tracks but as a whole i think the album is overrated...
much prefer dsotm and wish you were here |

much prefer dsotm and wish you were here
same here. i think floyds hard to get into for people because alot of their music is like th at. dark and depressing but not like emo depressing. just, insanity depressing, it can make people feel uncomfortable. |
I chuckle at myself because I can't even tell you how many members there are in Pink Floyd, I'll give it a shot: David Gilmour, Syd Barret, and :( There's 3 right :\ ?
I'm like 5,000,000,000% ignorant to Pink Floyd...I always tell myself I'm gonna check them out and never do. Only songs I've heard are Another Brick in the Wall Part 2, Money, and Comfortably Numb.
If you want to get into them here are the albums in the order I feel you should by them Dark Side of the Moon The Wall Wish You Were Here Animals Meddle obscured by clouds A Saucerful of Secrets Piper at the Gates of Dawn I know thats not all their stuff, but those are the main albums I feel you should own. And as you go down the list if you don't like one of the cds then don't by the cds below it. If you don't like the instrumental jams on Shine On You Crazy Dimond you won't like Animals. If you don't like the more out there songs on Obscured by Clouds you won't like Syds stuff. |
nah, i disagree with the order. put the wall below wish u were here.
|
The only Pink Floyd CDs I own are The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon
|
Obsurded (sp?) by clouds
obscured. problem solved :thumb: |
the wall shows just how irritating waters can get when he is left to his own devices and allowed to put the album on a far more grandiose scale then it should be. the greatest moment of the wall didn't even belong to waters. it was gilmour's solo on comfortably numb.
|
Last year, I was looking for PATGOD, and after a couple of months of searching I had found it (Well...). However, when I had opened the case, Obscured By Clouds was inside. :(

Do you guys download anything? I mean, I know theres satisfaction in actually owning the album, but if you just want to have the songs...

****, that is a street diss. I might get started on a rant regarding CD stores and RETURN POLICIES    |

It could, I just put that one first because Its a good gate to their jam days, and the Wall has almost no jamming on it, like Dark Side of the Moon (in comparrison to their other albums). But both should be owned. |

What about people like me who identify with they lyrics? The lyrics on the Wall speak to me more then most other albums out there. |
Good prog info Bonzo :thumb:

I returned it, and then they sent me a copy of PATGOD, but if I had included that, it would have ruined the story. :p |
Man, PATGOD was my third Floyd album, and I liked it. It was a really big leap, though, since it's really not the sound that the Floyd will be later remembered by, but it's entertaining to compare where they came from to what they became.
I sometimes wonder what would've happened if Syd had stayed... Would Waters had evolved into the songwritter he was, or would he had left the songwritting to Syd? |

:p
I'm moving to Chicago, land of the good Cd store owners, and wind. I bought a Lynyrd Skynyrd 2 disc CD which only had one disc in it so I wanted to return it since only 50% of it was there, but the Cd guy was a relative of satan and wouldn't let me return it :upset: I have various other stories, but that one still gets me ticked. |

i like the lyrics on wish you were here better. i don't think the wall is a bad album, just overrated. |

I have a feeling the outcome of the band would be the same where Roger takes control and the other members hate him for it (as they should). |

Haha, you are misinterpretating the label "The Windy City". We're called that because out politicians are winded. :p |

It is overrated  I never said it wasn't. I don't know I mean the lyrics I think speak to a certain type of person, sombody like me. I find myself listening to the album and being glad I'm not the only person who feels that way. The lyrics just put all my fustrations with what happens in the world into words that make it not seem so hard. |

Yea I'm finding I'm becoming a bigger fan of Lennons lyrics, but I've been a Floyd fan for longer. I like the more upbeat stuff to. To be honest I don't know why The Wall speaks to me so much. I think mabye its the fact its the first album that I felt like I was being directly spoken to by sombody who had known be my whole life so it holds a special place in my heart. Though hearing John saying "don't you know its going to be alright" its uplifting and I like it. I am starting to take a turn more towards his lyrics then Waters because of this. |
